A visit to the doctor on Monday – suggestions? [severe acne] [oxytetracycline]

Hi everyone, would
I really grateful if someone could help me out here .
Im return to my doctor on monday and am wondering if there is medicine I could?

Just suspect a little history . I started 2×500mg Oxytetracycline one day, back in September and had a small effect (I started with what I would call moderate / severe acne). Then around December / Janurary 2×500mg I changed to erythromycin, one day, and it took a while . but I am really pleased with the results (took me to mild / moderate) 0.

Im still not happy though – I have a lot of red marks (because the rate the red marks fade a lot less than the rate I get new zits – I have a number of about five months ago). Also I still get a lot of new pimples around my chin and nose (barely on my cheeks / forehead now). Those on my nose . You can not really see – just red marks as if in hiding, but it means I always have a red nose.

OK . So Im wondering if anyone could things I could suggest my doctor that the antibiotics stronger than I am now suggesting. There is also something that my skin would dry out (its very cool – especially on my forehead and nose. People sometimes think that I was sweating) 0.

I was wondering about Retin-A, but do not know much about? Can you take orally? What kind of impact does it have?

Is something else (that is stronger than antibiotics, but not as powerful as Accutane)? I really want this sorted one way or another –

I really appreciate any comments . Thanks you.

David

Reply:Yep guy, I'm on 2×500mg a day.

Reply:Good luck with the ketsugo Dave i hope it works for you,let me know how you get on with it.

Reply:My derm put me on Erythromycin and I also loved it but I still need lots of improvement I wonder if they can up the dosage because I'm only on 333mg a day and you said that you were on 500 x2 aday?

Reply:Hey,
Thanks for the replies scouselad! My Ketsugo spray came on Tuesday and I've been using it since. No real improvement but the people at Ketsugo still say it will take 4-6 weeks – so we'll see!
I'll let you know how it goes…

Reply:I'm currently searching for something too,i suggest you try Ketsugo Gel have a look on the net for it,it may work for you even though it didn't for me,but i know people who have had success with it.

Reply:Hey,
Thanks for the reply. I went to see him yesterday and ironically I thought my skin didn't look that bad at the exact same time I saw him.

Anyway! We started talking and I said how I was pleased with the results from the Erythromycin but was wondering if there was anything else. He said that my acne really wasn't that bad (and I guess it isn't – but I just have no confidence because of it) and how his was 10 times worse at my age.

He started talking about Roaccutane (same as Accutane I think) and how it could only be prescribed by a consultant derm but no dermatologist would ever prescribe that to me because it wasn't that bad (I knew this anyway – I didn't want to go on it). I said that I had heard about Retin-A and he said that it, again, would only be prescribed by a consultant derm. and that my acne wasn't anywhere near that level either.

Then I asked him if there was any stronger/different antibiotics and he said there were just two but that it would be better to stick on Erythromycin if it has been working so far. So I am lol.

I stopped taking it last night to take a break from it – so I'm seeing how long I can last without it. Just gotta search for something to reduce oil production… any ideas?

Reply:Like you ive tried differnet antibiotics and lots of topicals, ive tried oxytetracyclene and they did nothing at all for me,i then tried lymecycline and got no results from them either,i did have some results with doxycyclene and currently im taking minocin mr and i am noticing slight improvement,i am still getting spots but they seem to heal much quicker,as you say unfortunatley new spots appear before the old red marks have gone.
Apparantley there are other antibiotics you can take that are much stronger,a couple i know of are Trimethoprin and Clyndamycin, but my doctor seems reluctant to let me try them,i think they are probably more expensive than what i take now and with NHS costs in the U.K sometimes you dont get what you need but rather whats the least expensive,so ask him or her about these i,d like to know how you get on,also i would suggest that you are using a topical medication at the same time as a systemic antibiotic, ive tried zineryt lotion which works great for a while if your skin can handle the harshness of the alcohol in the product, theres a lot more to choose from too just ask your doctor or do a web search, currently im using a topical tea tree oil antiseptic lotion and thats giving me the same results as all the antibiotic topicals i have used in the past,so maybe its worth giving that a go too.
Goodluck and let me know how you get on with your doctor because i will be visiting mine real soon too.
