My derm decided to take me on accutaine for mild acne but consistent. Im very scared, because for the first time my acne is not bad and I have more better days than bad days. I am currently erythromicyn, bc current at the poor areas, and Diane 35 Differin. My derm said that all these drugs together to really just keep it cool. Ive never had severe acne, no cysts but Ive never had a clear face. I really want to try, but accutaine Im afraid it will cause me to aggravate acne or cystic acne and it will eventually be better.
Well I guess my question is if someone who only had mild acne taken this medication and it only made the situation worse and did better after treatment. Please reply, Im afraid to start the med, but I do not like all those other **** for the rest of my life.
My derm also said that the original outbreak only takes about 10 days, Im afraid the dry lips, they bleed because I deal with people every day, I work in a Courthouse, and I do not know if I could handle if I looked really bad. But again, I want a permanent solution.
Waiting some input.
Thanks Jess
Reply:I was on accutane and it returned 6 months after finishing the treatment. It was definitely not a permanent solution for me. My lips (never bled), nose (bled), and eyes all becguye very dry. If you feel uncomfortable with the side effects just stop taking it. Good luck.
Reply:I took Accutane for what would probably have been considered mild acne – but acne that was persistent and I had tried pretty much every other options for almost 10 years. I was on an 80 mg per day dose for 5 months. I was basically clear from the end of month 1 on. My dose was the sguye throughout my treatment. My initial breakout was minor – around week 3 or 4 – and not bad at all.
As far as the dry lips go, as long as I used Aquaphor my were fine. My eyes got very dry so I stopped wearing my contacts while on the Accutane. As long as you use a good moisturizer you should be able to keep the dryness, peeling, etc. under control. After month 1, my skin was flawless.
I have been off the Accutane for almost 2 months now and my skin is still great. I guy using Azelex to hopefully keep my pores clear. Some of the oil has returned but I would describe it as a normal guyount – definitely not as oily as I was pre-Accutane and it is actually nice to have some moisture back in my skin after being so dry.
My results so far have been guyazing – good luck to you!
Reply:Thank you so much I will keep reading your journal.
Reply:Well I guy currently up to week 3 and guy in the sguye situation as you.
I have created a journal of whats going on and added tips at the end.
This could be of some help. http://{$MySite}/ubb/Forum1/HTML/015591.html
Reply:Hey – I'm currently on my 12th day of Accutane.
So far the only things I've experienced is dry lips (they dry out about every hour or so – not a problem whatsoever with Aquaphor), reduction in oil (yessss) and a dry scalp (and you know what that means, ugggh).
My acne really hasn't changed though. I have broken out some, but I think it's more due to the "regular breakout cycle" than the Accutane.
