Hi, I have tried several diets that are supposed to
I acne help, but all of them make it really hard not to lose weight!
The best acne-fighting diet Ive tried is a low glycemic. (Eating food that does not disturb cause your blood sugar levels) this involves cutting a piece of bread, cereals, pasta etc (even those wholoewheat)
However, I have a very thin: D 24-year-old man got, but I have the body a 12-year-old! Its really hard for me to cut out pasta, bread, etc., and all other triggers of acne. I need at least 3500 calories a day is not to lose weight, but find it very difficult to eat that much when my carbohydrate intake is so limited.
I, what you eat black bread and some noodles. But even with these grains, you can not eat too much. Pasta has a low glycemic index, but a high glycemic load – so I can not eat that much at once! O
Everyone thinks Im anorexic! Say people do not eat dairy products, nuts, even the most meat! What does that leave me?!

Reply:I have the same problem since I have been cutting out bread, pasta and potatoes. I lost more than 25 pounds but it seems that it benefited me. I never had a six pack in my life up until now and I consistently worked out. Seems that cutting out all that stuff benefited me but I also found a lot of substitutes. For a while I was wondering how long I could go with this diet because I was getting tired of eating the same foods. Now that I found tons of products I could eat it seems to be easy. There are breads that don't break me out at all. I've been getting the The Baker brand spelt bread which is delicious. It does cost over $3 but is worth it. I know people have said that this is on the list of grains that cause acne but it doesn't affect me. There are also many brown rice pastas available and they taste pretty good. I drink loads of Vitamin Water which has crytaline fructose in it. After researching it I found that crystaline sucrose doens't affect insulin levels as much because it breaks down slower over a longer period of time. Not sure whether this is a factor here but I have been drinking 2 or 3 daily and nothing happens. They have a bunch of flavors although I am not sure if they sell it nationwide. You can also get vegan cookies which tatse so much better than chips ahoy or any of that crap. Nana's has wheat free cookies and alternative baking has like 6 diferent kinds to choose from. They are usually sold in health food stores but here in NYC I see them in a lot of fruit markets. Brown rice seems to be Ok for me. I drank Bacardi white rum last nigth with seltzer and lime juice. Actually tastes really good so I'm stilll waiting to see if I break out. Usually I break out the next day but nothing so far. You can search for these on the internet. Hope this helps people.

rice protein with berries and ice in a smoothie if you are lifting
try buckwheat/rice ceral with flax seeds for breakfast [ gluten free ]

Reply:Sweetjade-
How did you figure out what to give up. Most people say you have to give up dairy, meat, etc. I was very strict for a month and still had acne. Do you still get acne when you are careful about what you eat?

Shea: I have tried NOT to follow the low-glycemic diet, but I always break out badly. Of course there are other triggers sometimes like stress, really hot weather etc, but through a lot of trial and error I KNOW a low-glycemic diet HELPS my skin. (Though it's not 100% clear) Iwould like nothing more than diet not to affect my skin.
guy: I am not waiting for scientific studies to confirm that eating lots of refined carbohydrates can cause acne. I have been testing this myself for nearly a year – the results, for me personally, show a very strong correlation between consumption of refined carbohydrates and the prevelance acne.
I will soon live at home again. It will be extra hard to follow this diet there – my family just don't understand why I don't eat a big loaf of bread like I used to!! If I tell them about the low-glycemic thing, they will go CRAZY -I don't want the hassle.
I am thinking of buying some sort of natural weight gain powder. Although there may well be some suspect ingredients, I will try it and see if it negatively affects me or not. What do you think??
Sweetjade – I am not avoiding meats, dairy products etc. They are OK glycemic wise, so I am eating them. I remember you told me before not to cut out everything at once – you're right!!! This glycemic thing has the only thing that's worked so far, so I will persist with it.
I hate this.
(sometimes my face is as red as this – why is this?)
The Glycemic Index Lifestyle Solution
Reply:Ahh, but when there is data, what do we do with the word "anecdotal"?
Anyway, Euro, what were you eating during this time period? Some people lose weight, others gain some or gain lean muscle, and others don't lose any. I lost some fat, that I could see, but my weight didn't change any. So I guess maybe you aren't eating enough healthy calories to maintain your weight.
I personally don't follow the glycemic load or any of that carb counting stuff, I just avoid certain foods that have been implicated in scientific studies along with lots of anecdotal evidence, AND personal experience to be a problem for me. As such, yes I still consume rice, corn, potatos…aren't these high on list (?) and yet, no problems. The Glycemic Load is not everything when it comes to how it will affect your insulin levels & inflammatory products. You also want to take into account the Insulin Index (depends on the protein, carbohydrate, fiber & starch of a food), but that doesn't seem to be gettng published anytime soon (its been almost 10 years) so, you may want to experiment and see what effects you.
Through out your trials, have you managed to discover what foods without a doubt mess with your skin? If so, you want to keep them off your your "safe to eat list". Otherwise, why are you avoiding meat, nuts, dairy, etc? Because people say it's a problem for them, or because you've discovered it's a problem for YOU?
Bye for now

Reply:I really dont believe diet is always the answer. i gave up sugar and carbs for a month and there was no difference. May be you should do the same and see. If there is no change forget about it. I also find it funny that when you diet for acne you give up sooo much. Would that many foods really cause acne. I felt more unhealthy that month. By the way I am a very healthy eater in general. I do not eat much junk.
Going FAT2Lean – Transitioning to a Low Glycemic Diet
Reply:I have the same problem, Euro. I also need more than 3000 calories just to maintain my weight, and I'd have to spend all day eating on the low-GI diet not to lose weight. And I get the anorexia questions too.
I wish I could help, but I can't – I don't know what the solution is. Just sympathizing.
Low Pressure Sex
Reply:There's no hard proof that diet affects acne at all. There are a lot of testimonials, but as scientists say, "The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data.'"

Reply:I know exactly how you feel. I'm trying to gain weight (w/ help from weight training), and it's impossible because so many bodybuilding foods can be affiliated with acne. It sucks how much acne can indirectly affect so many other things in our lives.
