Microdermabrasion System for Acne
Microdermabrasion is the latest, most effective non-surgical comprehensive approach to skin care in the treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, superficial pigmentation, sun damaged skin and acne scars. The treatment takes approximately 45 minutes each and is scheduled in for about 5 to 6 continuous weeks.
There are essentially two phases of application when microdermabrasion is used for acne treatment. In the first phase, using a machine, the skin is cleansed properly and all blocked skin pores are emptied and cleansed using a process similar to vacuum cleaning of the skin surface. This process is comfortable and can be done without any anesthesia. The skin can get back a red and healthy glow after microdermabrasion acne treatment, which is caused by an increase of blood flow under the skin. This treatment rejuvenates the skin as it restores the nutrients and oxygen supply.
During the second phase, a thin jet of aluminum oxide crystals is sprayed on the skin surface. This has a gentle effect which smoothen the shell of the skin and removes the dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin surface. When repeated frequently, this treatment can lead to permanent smoothing of the skin and clear it of all irregularities and blotches.
Except for the existing use of Ro-accutane, there are no known contra-indications for microdermabrasion system. The only thing to remember is that for best results you must undergo several such treatments within a span of time. While most acne cases need about ten sessions, acute acne treatment may need more.
Microdermabrasion at home is a growing trend among those who want to beautify their skin with ease and cut costs. There are several ways in which a microdermabrasion at home system differs from going to a physician. First, even though it is effective, the result you see will be different from a clinic’s result. Second, it may get a bit messy with a home system, and if you are not careful enough, you may ruin the whole procedure by mixing up the wrong solutions. However, if you are careful, the procedure doesn’t entail much difficulty.
How the home systems differ from those that are used in clinics? Well, some kits use a mechanical battery powered crystal blower, whereas other kits and creams are applied directly onto the skin (instead of being sprayed on) with a pad or simply the user’s fingers. It only takes about 10 minutes in total, once you get used to the whole process, and you only have to carry out the procedure once or twice a week. Further, you can choose when you want to do it, and it is cheaper overall to buy microdermabrasion at home systems than going all the way to a special clinic; although you are likely to note differences in skin texture post-procedure.
After use, your skin will take on a fresh new glow and there will be some redness present (similar to a slight sunburn), that will dissipate in a few hours. It’s advisable to use additional products to soothe, hydrate and protect your skin after home microdermabrasion treatments. For example, you can apply a moisturizer that contains aloe vera or hyaluronic acid. You can also improve the results with glycolic acid or salicylic acid ointments, further use with products containing retinal will also make you look younger.
However, before undergoing microdermabrasion, you should first discuss it with your dermatologist. He will help you to know your skin type and duration of treatment needed.
