Choosing The Best Anti Wrinkle Cream
There are all types of anti wrinkle products on the market, ranging from creams, lotions, masks, and even serums. Although they all serve the same purpose, various products usually contain a wide variety of ingredients, some that can actually make your skin look worse. When looking to buy the best anti wrinkle cream, there are a few ingredients you should look for, and a few that you should avoid, to guarantee you are getting the best product for your skin and getting the most for your money.
You should opt for a cream rather than a lotion or other water-based product. Water can actually make the skin lose moisture and make wrinkles more noticeable, while a thick cream will actually provide the skin with a great deal of moisture that will keep the skin looking refreshed for a long period of time. The cream should be a natural based product, such as cocoa butter, Aloe Vera, or even vitamins and herbs. Key wrinkle reducer ingredients are:
Argireline ( acetyl hexapeptide-3) is one of the best anti aging ingredients because it works to relax facial tensions that contribute to wrinkles. Similar to the effects of BOTOX® injections, argireline reduces wrinkles and lines by releasing muscle tension. However, argireline is superior because it can be applied directly on all your wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, on the other hand, has restrictions which allow for injections on limited areas of the face. In fact, one study points to a 30% reduction in wrinkle size after only 30 days of using argireline or its generic equivalent, acetyl hexapeptide-3.
Matrixyl (palmitoyl pentapeptide-3) is one of the powerful peptide molecules found in anti aging skin care products. Matrixyl works by stimulating collagen production in skin. An increase of collagen makes all the difference to plump skin and smooth out wrinkles. Matrixyl promotes an incredible amount of collagen in the skin; so much that it can give BOTOX® a run for their money. Studies on Matrixyl report that wrinkles were reduced by half and fine lines almost completely faded away. This is one ingredient that is a must in anti aging skin care products.
Retinol (retinyl palmitate) functions as an antioxidant which speeds up cell turnover. This means old skin cells will be replenished at a faster rate. In return, your skin will be younger looking and more vibrant. Retinol also has been observed to reduce the size of wrinkles. Look for retinol or other forms of retinol such as retinyl palmitate in wrinkle creams. It works to give your face an overall youthful glow.
Some basic oils also could help. Sweet almond oil softens the skin, as do avocado and jojoba oils. Sweet almond oil is good for less mature skin, protective yet light. If you’re older, avocado and jojoba oil are ready to meet the task. Avocado oil is high in vitamin E, known to maintain and repair damaged skin. Jojoba oil is the older woman’s best friend. A nightly application renders big results. Jojoba oil penetrates the skin overnight, with a soft and non-greasy result by morning, filling in those wrinkles for a much younger look when used as a daily regimen.
Here are some of the things that an anti wrinkle skin cream should not contain:
-Alcohol (including cetyl alcohol) because it is drying.
-Fragrance because it can be irritating.
-Sunscreen because it alone does not reduce the risk of skin cancer and some compounds are hazardous.
-Parabens because they are cancer causing suspects.
-Paraffin wax or mineral oil because they clog the pores and strip natural oils, leading to dryness.
Last but not least, when searching out an anti wrinkle cream that’s right for you, consult with your herb dealer or dermatologist to find out the various effects each oil (or cream) has on different skin conditions. Do some research to find out which one is best suited to your age and skin condition.
