anyones derm spray them with frozen nitrogen? [frozen nitrogen] [derm]

lol I went to a new derm today and the guy is really cool, he had this bottle that looked like one of those torches they **** with solder, anyways he sprayed on my face and shoulders, said he cleans out the pores do I, it was kinda funny and cool, but still. anything. heh.

Reply:i beleive its called "cyrotherapy"… i liked it when my derm did it to me….. he did it for "minor scar treatment"… but, it really evened out my skin tone, and kept the exfoliating process going in areas that i needed it… he would only "spot" spray….

i can't find a derm here anymore that will do it.. (my derm retired)

Reply:Hi,
It is liquid nitrogen. I had a series of these cold spray treatments back in early 1970s. I think it helped me.

I guess it has to be applied correctly to avoid damaging the skin in some permanent way. Dr Fulton a California dermatologist mentions this in his book though he says for it to effective you'd have to go a couple times a week, or once a week, or something like that. I'm not so sure about that at least from my own experience.

I used to go about once a month. At the time it was my only hope to help with the cystic acne I had and also with the scarring. My face used to blister like having sun poisoning. Although I remember some of the negative things (stinging cold, blistering and peeling), my sister recalls after the peeling fell away that my face would look good for two weeks. I guess she was impressed enough to recommend to a friend.

Dr Fulton also mentions the simpler version more practical at home version of this cryotherapy (cold/icing) by the use ice cubes on cysts (though even with the icing I think no more than a couple of minutes per breakout should be done to avoid damaging the skin). I guess this therapy has been around for quite a while, perhaps maybe back into the 1960's or 1950's. I think today dermatologists may to easily dismiss this as a stone age technique for acne when it could be helpful for some.

Reply:I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but what's cool about a treatment that doesn't do anything? Have you seen any results from this yet?

Reply:no it doesnt really do anything, he just did it cause hes cool and he said its good for the skin. i *do* think it was nitrogen, but maybe it was nitro glycerine, or hydrogen or something else lol. anyway it was like like cold air spray.

Reply:That's what they do to freeze bumps off–including warts and skin cancers. Guess your doctor is just zapping everything on your face. Never heard of this before! Let us know what the results are.

Reply:Well… did it do anything?

  1. Hi says:

he did the same exact thing!!
It was like a pressurized can full of liquid nitrogen, and it had a nozzle like a blow torch
they basically sprayed all over my face but it only felt like really cold air, not wet or anything
he did it today so I don’t know if this will help or not. I doubt it though.
