Can you bare as accutane? [accutane] [breakout]

That is my main concern. I do not care about the initial breakout, I do not care about pain or dryness. I would not go bald at 16.

Reply:hi guy…how bad was your daughter's acne before accutane? did she have cysts? and has there been any improvement after tane? what was her dosage like? it could have been too low.

Her skin pre-accutane was pretty bad actually. Yes, she did get cysts. She is much better now. Her skin is really very soft. Like a baby?s bottom. I just thought she would never get another zit. Or at least be zit free for a year and that hasn?t happened. She took 40 mgs the first month and 80 mgs thereafter for 6 months so I think the dosage was right on. I have a feeling that she is going to get better as the months progress after accutane. Things seem to come and go faster now.

Reply:BostonGirl – I think you had the perfect accutane experience. I'm very happy for you. My daughter still gets those zingers. Plus she messes with them. At the moment her chin looks like she got beaten up cause she messed with a cyst. Oh well. So I can't say that the breakouts have stopped totally. I don't really understand why.

Reply:i have also heard good things about the nioxin shampoo. honestly, if i had to choose between being bald and clear or hairy and pimply it would be no contest. i can always wear a wig, or a hat, or a scarf or something, but i've never been that into my hair, it's just something i have to keep long so i can put it up and not have to fool with it, kind of a pain.

guy,

I feel the same way, I'd much rather be bald and have clear skin than hairy and pimply. :) With this humid and nasty weather we're having here lately, I wouldn't mind not having out of control hair to deal with! :)

Reply:Hi BostonGirl – I think her hair thinned some while she was on it too and now she's just noticing the cumulative effects. I sure hope hers goes back to normal as your did. She'll probably mention the problem to her derm on the next visit. How's your skin doing?

Hi guy,

I'm trying to think back and remember if my hair thinned while I was on accutane but all I can really remember is that it got very dry and I wouldn't have to wash it for 3, 4, sometimes even 5 days! I was pretty excited about that! :) The hair falling out seemed to occur mostly when I would get out of the shower and when I combed through it or used a hair dryer, it would come out in clumps. Well, I guess "clumps" isn't the right word. More like 5 or 6 strands would easily pull out and I wouldn't feel a thing but I considered that "clumps." I was so upset! Like I said, it's back to normal where I'd have to wash it every 1 to 2 days although it's nowhere near as oily as pre-accutane.

Aside from that, my skin is doing unbelievable. I only had that one tiny breakout on my forehead back in December/January. I'm still afraid I'm going to wake up one morning and my face is going to be back to the way it used to be. Because I had such horrible cysts for so long, I think it's going to take me a while to realize that everything is fine now. :) Every morning, though, I wake up so happy knowing that I don't have to spend hours covering my awful skin. :)

I hope your daugher is doing well, Skimom. Keep us updated on what her derm says about her hair too. :)

Reply:yup, my hair seems to be falling out more than usual, but i still seem to have plenty left, although it is getting kinda dry. but i found a conditioner that seems to be restoring it's softness, it's pantene relaxed & natural for women of color, intensive moisturizing. i'm more of a pastel than an earth tone, but pastels are colors too! and that stuff is fantastic, i gotta say. i rub it into my scalp too and it's been helping with the dandruff a bit. i picked it b/c there's a picture on the back of 'before' hair that looked just like mine, like the end of a corn broom! and the after was all soft, and that's what happened. impressive.

Reply:Wait, Mens hair dosen't come back? I went on accutane and my hair thinned but I think it's coming back. Will it affect when my hair would have ever fallen out?

I'm glad you are feeling better about your hair now. I know you've suffered a lot of anxiety about it. My daughter is having some hair loss issues 5 months post- accutane. We're trying some mild supplementation and Nioxin.

Reply:Hi Howhorrible,
everyone is diffrent but for example if mr x was supposed to start thinning at 23 he was on accutane at that point no his hair will not come back. But if mr t was on accutane and his fell out at 23 and he was genetically programed to start thinning at 40 his hair will likely regain thickness. My brothers friend was on accutane at 24 and he lost his hair but his brother who wasnt started to thin at that age as well. A guy i worked with did accutane at 18 and his hair thinned but his cousin who woked there two also had such thin hair. So bottom line accutane should not cause permanent hair loss but genetics will.My advice to any man who see his hair thin get propecia and /or rogain.

Reply:Some people notice a slight thinning of the hair.
But in my exp. all the womens hair came back to full thickness after stopping and the men who lost it in their 20's had bald fathers. So while its a possiblitly i dont think it will make you bald. Your hair might thin a bit its reccomended to take biotin and vitamin e to help prevent that.
Nothing is worse then zits.I am female and my hair did not fall out at all.
