contraceptive pills and [birth control pills] [acen]

Hi everyone, have had moderate
I acen for at least 3 years now, and recently my periods are very irregular, and someone mentioned about going on the pill. Not only helps to regulate my periods but my acne clear (?) Ive heard this before, but not sure because Im not sexually active, at least not yet, so Im never one of those thought made but now Im seriously considering about this. Does anyone have some good results with the pill for their skin, or they are bad for you? And if they are good for acne, which I would talk to them to write me the pills?
Thank you so much for reading this,
Anita

Reply:Yasmin is a common birth control pill that is prescribed to help regulate the hormones and clear acne. I have been on it for about 6 months now and I am clear besides an occasional pimple that usually heals pretty quickly. I have had birth control pills prescribed by my general practitioner AND my dermatologist so you really could go to either one. I think Yasmin and Diane 35 are most commonly heard of for treating acne, but there are many others that can help too. Diane 35 has some worse possible side effects though.

Yes – there are a lot of different kinds. The first one I used was Nordette, which cleared my acne, but caused a new skin problem: Constant peeling. Now I'm on Microgestin. Give your doctor as much information as you can so he can chose the best one for you.

Reply:My family doctor prescribed them for me specifically to clear up my skin. I was 19. He wouldn't prescribe them any earlier because he thought it was bad for growing people to be taking hormones. I tend to agree. Anyway, they worked wonderfully.

I have some weird hormone imbalance where I don't have progesterone. My doctor ordered about 8 million blood tests before prescribing the pills. It's good for them to check for hormone problems first.

Reply:Hi Anita, there are some birth control pills which are good for your skin because they have 'anti-adrogens' in them which regulate your hormones. Sometimes there are side-effects such as breaking out more in the first month or so of taking the pill, and you probably shouldn't take it if you have a family history of stroke, bloodclots or get migraines, because sometimes these pills can aggrevate these conditions (very uncommon, but it has been proven). But in general, they can be very helpful. They do regulate your periods, so that's handy, cos you know when it's gonna be!
As far as I know, your doctor can prescribe you the pill, or if you have any youth centres that do that sort of thing (in new zealand we have "family planning association" which is free) go there.
I think the pills that are available are diane35, or estelle35 and maybe others from the US can help cos they have different names over here! Hope that helps. Good Luck.
