Cystic Acne Treatment
Cystic acne, also referred to as nodular acne, is a severe form of acne vulgaris, which also includes, besides cysts, whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, and nodules. The cyst resembles a nodule except in that the cyst is filled with pus, with a diameter of at least 5 mm. These cysts can vary in size and color from small and pink to large and a dark purple. In severe cases, multiple cysts in the facial area and on the body can be extremely painful.
These are the treatments that may be used for cystic acne:
Drainage, extraction or acne surgery
This is a form of treatment that is usually practiced on a few large cysts, that don’t respond to any other medication. This treatment should solely be performed by a doctor and never done by yourself. Alternatively, a dermatologist may inject cortisone into the cysts to reduce the inflammation.
Isotretinoin
Isotretinoin is the most effective form of treatment for more severe acne known nowadays. It is a synthetic form of vitamin A in pill form. Although it presents respectable effects in the acne treatment, it still has several possible side effects. That is why the use of isotretinoin should be supervised by a health professional.
Oral antibiotics
For severe causes of acne, oral antibiotics have been the primary treatment. It helps to reduce the amount of P. Acne bacterias on the skin, just like any other topical antibiotic, thus reducing the inflammation.
Oral contraceptives
Oral contraceptives have been proved to be an efficient acne treatment for women. The contraceptive pill should not be prescribed without consulting a gynecologist, though it can be applied as a semipermanent acne treatment.
Natural treatments
A few natural treatments for acne are eating a whole food diet that only includes natural food, that has not been processed chemically or mechanically. Additionally some relaxation methods can help to reduce stress on the body and mind.
To prevent the formation of additional cysts and scars, cystic acne must be treated early as it develops. Many dermatologists prescribe Accutane when acne gets severe. However, this drug is not suggested for pregnant women and even for those women who are to undergo pregnancy in near future. Many women have found success with deep cleaners such as Neutrogena or Proactiv solution , products that contain higher levels of benzoyl peroxide, a substance proved to be safe for pregnant women to use.
AcnEase is also a famous herbal remedy for cystic acne without any external ointments for drying and irritating. It not only prevents new acne cysyts but ensures the healthy regeneration of skin, thus curbing the threat of scarring. AcnEase has no serious adverse effects like that of Accutane and is recommended for both adults and adolescents. It has also been successful in individuals whose cystic acne was not treated effectively by Accutane.
