Hi there!
I go on holiday to Bali in three months and have some skin problems I would like to find out before then. I have been on Doxycycline for four months, which improved some areas of my skin, but others have no change, and unfortunately, these are the worst areas.
On my left cheek and my forehead, my skin is discolored. The patches are a centremetre or so long each way, a number of smaller or larger, and a bluish brown. Some of them released after a time, but others remained. Its almost as if the upper layer of the skin areas was just blue!
What they are and how can I get rid of them? Is hyperpigmentation? Is there anything I can do to make it less visible without paying a fortune?
Desperately awaiting answers

Reply:Hmm. I don't think a side effect of Doxy is discolored skin. Also, I had it (though not as bad) before I went on the pills.
This morning a layer or so of skin peeled off on the problem area. It is still there. It appears the discolored tissue is deeper than I first thought.
I am due for a visit to my GP in a few weeks. I will ask.
In the meantime, anyone else can help? I would prefer an over the counter product or home remedy (I heard somewhere lemon juice work for hyperpigmentation, lol, is that really true?). It's less expensive that way.

Reply:I was just put on solodyn (a minocycline antibiotic in the same family as doxy). Anyway, I read the information that came with my pills and one of the side effects is discolored skin. So this may be a side effect of the doxy. When did you first notice the color change. Definitely talk to your derm or GP about it. It sounds like it's not permanent but that some has peeled off. Maybe your doc can prescribe retin A micro or tazorac – both help to shed skin so they may help but they take a few months to work.
Good luck
