Is smoking pot aggravate your acne? [smoking pot] [medical reason]

I was wondering if anyone found smoking pot their acne worse. I feel like if I do I always new seat the next day. Of course I have new seat without even smoking it. But would anyone know that a scientific / medical reason why smoking pot would exacerbate your acne?

Reply:I have actually read that smoking pot increases levels of testosterone in the body which can increase androgen levels. If you are already sensitive to these extra hormones you may break out after smoking pot. The reason though that many pot smokers have beautiful skin is that they might not react like you do to certain hormones…they prob. couldn't get acne if they tried. Do as search for marijuana and hormones and see what comes up. I also believe that drinking/getting drunk is worse than smoking a natural plant used for centuries medicianally. The reason you get drunk on alcohol is b/c it is a poison a strong acidic toxin. The reason you get "high" is stimulation by THC of your brain to produce extra chemicals it normally produces anyway. Anything in excess is bad but we shouldn't judge someone facing acne and coming here for advice. ADVICE!!!!

Reply:Marijuana is really no worse than getting drunk…

Reply:Burton Babe,
We must have replied at the same time because I was not responding your reply. Yours just posted sooner than mine. Anyway, thank you for shedding some light on the subject for all of us. I didn't mean for this to be a pot debate – I will debate all day on how marijuana can actually be helpful medically, as it looks like you could too. Anyway, I guess I am interested in the inflammatory qualities of pot. If it is presecribed for medical purposes, it may even have anti-inflammatory qualities, right?
PS – Are you a snowboarder (Burton)?

Reply::wave: Hi Coloradogirl!

There are 400 chemicals in marijuana, THC is the one which most affects the brain. Some side affects from marijuana are higher risk for developing cancer,
decrease in testosterone and lower sperm counts for men, increase in testosterone levels for women & increased risk of infertility. Since it can affect the parts of the brain that control hormones, it appears that this can cause an acne breakout. (Testosterone levels flucuating is an acne trigger).

My opinion is that the body will try to rid itself of any toxin or anything wasteful and acne is another outlet to do so.

I hope this helps you. :p

Reply:Yeah sorry bout the rambling…just wanted to show ppl that its not all bad

Reply:Wow, that was totally not the answers I was looking for. I smoke pot once in a while and found that it may aggravate my acne. I hope that none of the critics out there that responded to my post have ever poisoned themselves with accutane, antibiotics, spironolactone, alcohol, pain killers, sugar, cola, ANXIETY, WORRY, etc. etc. etc. Marijuana is much less harmful than any of the above, especially if used only once in a while. So if anyone knows any reason that it would affect my acne, I will continue to give myself a small break from constant worry, anxiet, shame and hatred of myself because of my acne by smoking pot once in a while.

stop it.

I think your wrong.Matter of fact,I know your wrong
What about people who use it for medical reasons?

There is such a thing as medicinal marijuana and it does help people. My grampa is in his 70's and got cancer and had to undergo chemo and now he smoked medicinal pot on a regular basis to stop the pain.

People use it for all sorts of reasons…

Cannabinoids — the active components of Cannabis sativa and their derivatives — exert palliative effects in cancer patients by preventing nausea, vomiting and pain and by stimulating appetite. In addition, these compounds have been shown to inhibit the growth of tumour cells in culture and animal models by modulating key cell-signalling pathways. Cannabinoids are usually well tolerated, and do not produce the generalized toxic effects of conventional chemotherapies

Thirty percent to 40% of patients with bipolar disorder are not consistently helped by or cannot tolerate standard medications. In the course of the authors' studies of the medical uses of cannabis (Grinspoon & Bakalar 1997), a number of sufferers were discovered who believed marihuana to be more effective than conventional anti-manic drugs, or who used it to relieve the side effects of lithium."

A surprising number of people so afflicted [with bi-polar disorder] have independently made the discovery that cannabis has improved their conditions, whether the mania or depression. It may also reduce side effects of other drugs used in its treatment, such as Lithium, Carbamazepine (Tegretol) or Valproate (Depakote).

Marijuana can be a very good thing for some people.

When Im really really stressed out and cant calm down or get rid of anxiety,Ill go and smoke some cuz it helps.

Care to change your mind on the subject?

Reply:That's what I'd want to admit to my fiance being, an avid pot smoker.

And in response to the girls question, I think if you're smoking pot, pimples are going to be the last you need to worry about.

who cares if you smoke pot? its better than doing coke or E or something like that. i find it makes no difference if i smoke it or anything. i agree with burton though, there are those nights when you just pass out on your deck(or in my case burtons's deck along with her) and dont wash your face, that might be it.

Reply:One of the symptoms for marijuana/meth were irritated skin and acne..

I work with the knuckleheads.. almost all who do smoke have acne.. those who dont, or in recovery are gettin their skin clearer..

so i dont know.. its up to u.. it could be the smoke.

Acne is NOT a symptom of meth use…Clammy skin and dry scaley skin are,I have yet to see a meth user with acne just cuz of the meth abuse. If the user already had acne I could maybe see it making it a bit worse cuz the body is deprived of vitamins and minerals .But IT DOES NOT CAUSE IT

Also my boyfriend smokes tons of pot everyday and his skin is crystal clear, same with my sister and tons of my friends .I used to smoke lots of pot and it never made my acne worse, the only thing that was pot related that could have made it worse was that when I got home from partyin I'd be too stoned too wash my face and Id just pass out on the floor of my deck but thats just my laziness and not the pot.

Reply:I don't think the actual pot itself will cause acne. The smoke maybe. And if you start eating a lot of crap afterwards, that may affect your skin. And I know from experience, DON'T touch your face at all after you've smoked, unless your hands have been washed.

"Getting wasted is a waste of time." That's a good play on words..but so is "There's no time wasted when your wasted". I just thought I'd throw that in there.

Reply:Well said, Frogprince. Getting wasted is a waste of time.

Reply:My fiance is an AVID, everyday smoker & his face is fine, HOWEVER, the very few times that I have smoked, my face looked like it was smacked by a board riddled with nails! I guess it depends on the person. It's really not worth it anyway.
