Is your acne itch? [severe acne] [stomach area]

Hello my name is Kelly and I am a 25 yr old mother of three beautiful children. I have acne since I was about 18 or 19. I have severe acne on my back, chest and neck and even on the stomach area, but on my face that I only have one few.I went to the dermatologists today and he gave me all sorts of things to try for six weeks and if Don then we do not work on Accutane. But my question is my severe acne itches, and I was wondering if this is normal and if so, why does it itch? Thanks for taking the time to respond, Kelly

Reply:my acne itches so bad somtimes that i feel like its not even acne. i try to blow a fan on my face or wipe it with some type of cloth. i hate it when it itches cause you cant itch it cause it hurts. it must of been itching last night when i was sleeping cause i woke up from the pain of scrathing a pimple.

Reply:Mine itches if the acne goes deep. If it's just superficial, it doesn't itch so much. I'm not exactly sure why it itches, but my guess is that it itches because it's an infection and your body is fighting the infection. I mean, wounds itch while they are healing. I think it's a similar thing.

What do you do to keep from scratching? I try my hardest not to scratch because I'm afraid it will scar, but sometimes it's so hard not to!

My acne's mostly cleared up now, it cleared up with the Cleocin solution my dermatologist gave me, which is a topical antibiotic. I wish I'd gone to the dermatologist much earlier in my life, instead of wasting time w/ all of the over-the-counter stuff.
