I am a teenage girl with severe cystic acne on my arms. Three weeks ago I started with the antibiotic minocycline. Im still really serious pimples on my arms. Any idea how long it takes to Minocycline finally doing his job?
Reply:i have tried everything, i am now almost off accutane and my acne is almost clear. minoclycline was was of the antibiotics that i tried and funnily enough it was the only one which did not help in the slightest. some of the others even if they did not work very well helped supress my acne but minocycline just made it worse
Reply:some people are lucky enough to see results within just 2-3 weeks but all research I have done and what my Dr. told me is that it takes an average of 6-8 weeks to see real improvement.
I have been on it for 7.5 months and it works for me…. so hang in there!
Reply:dont give up yet! it probably will work, its still to early to tell yet with the severity of your acne it takes a little longer. hang in there!
Reply:you should wait at least another week before you ask your doctor to switch you to a different antibiotic. minocycline works for some people and some people have to be switched to anorher antibiotic like doxycycline. please keep us posted!
My doc was really horrible, he told me i had to complete the course of 6 months. At the time i trusted the doc and did as he said. When i kept going back to him he told me that was normal. I wish i had done my own research.

Reply:I took minocycline a couple of years ago and dont remember how you're suppose to take it. :confused: The doc told me to make sure i did not miss a day or the acne will come back really bad. I took it for nearly 6 months and all i could see it was getting worse.
so I stopped taking it. This antibiotic like others works for some. I think you should give it atleast 2-3 months. Good luck

I haven't noticed any improvement at all, in fact the acne is getting worse. I've been taking Minocycline on a full stomach. Are you supposed to take Minocycline on a full or empty stomach?Reply:hi covered, welcome to the boards! :wave: could you tell us if you have seen ANY improvement or difference at all? you should start noticing some improvement right about now(3weeks).
