Hi, I recently went from the Nuva Ring birth control because my skin broke out like crazy for almost a full two months without interruption. I could not handle. Usually I have pretty clear skin, occasional small pimples (and Im a picker so I tend to make them even worse), but they would heal and I would be fine.
Now are already one week ago I took the ring. I took it out because I had this cyst on my right jaw line (about 3 or 4 at the time) and they were round and hard and it seemed like they would pop up, and I was just tired. Well, they didnt pop. So here I am, one week later, and although the cyst / pimple is gone, now I have a large lesion, the size of my fingernail, and it is uneven in texture and bright red. Also right above, I pretty dark mark that is not cured. The rest of my skin cleared by about 85%. Im still little seat now, but I swear, my jaw line looks like I ripped the skin off and it is bright red and it does not completely healed in about a week and half. Its terrible, and of course ruin the entire focus of my face because the first thing you see.
What should I do? Ive tried using neosporin because it usually works on anything (the red marks on my bc breakouts are barely visible), but I swear theres no difference. Ive tried hot water, Ive tried 100% pure aloe vera. I think Im going to try just leaving it alone, but it makes me depressed, about as much as I was on my skin when I was in BC Any suggestions? Im worried about the scars, but am afraid that this thing will take about a month or two before it goes away! Ive never like this when there are no signs of healing or redness decreases! I also fear that birth control is always messed up my skin .
Reply:yeah i think i'd just ice it & leave it alone. it sounds like its really irritated. putting too much stuff on it will only make it worse. i'd try the ice to help with the swelling & then probably just keep it clean & dry for as much of the day that you can. maybe then it will dry out & go away.
Reply:I have been using the aztec clay mask with ACV because of the glowing reviews it got from this board. But its not like its normal skin that is red, otherwise I would just put AHA on it and leave it alone. Its like- imagine that you jsut have this really deep pitted scar thats really big and it just wont heal. Its sort of raw and just red and stuff. So Im nervous to keep putting masks on it. The texture is pretty bad. Its swollen AND red, and when I put makeup on it to go out on public you can tell its just messed up underneath! Sorry for the details Ive just never had my skin messed up this bad before. I haven't tried icing it, Ive actually been putting really hot water on it hoping it would heal it up better- it used to work for my pimples in the past. Maybe I'll try that and see how it goes.
Reply:hi lals. i just finished up my 1st month on nuvaring & my skin has gone nuts too. i was on other bcps before the ring but had to switch due to breakthrough bleeding. my skin never freaked out like this on the pills i took. i have noticed though that this week (its my ring free week) my skin looks 100 times better. i'm nervous about putting a new one in on wednesday.
i've been using tea tree oil on the ones that i pick at & i think it dries them up faster. i also used that neutrogena mask for red spots & i think that helps if you do it every few days. is the spot swollen or just red? i'd probably try icing it every so often. and dont pick at it…it will only take longer to go away. another thing i do is the aspirin mask. i think it works wonders! i know how terrible this can be. my skin was at its worst for the last 3 weeks. i keep hoping it will get better because other than the breakouts, i really love the ring. good luck to you! :wave:

You can use hot wash cloth and pour salt on it. Apply it to the cysts for an immediate reaction. The salt kills the bacteria and within a coupld of hours. The cyst will appear less aggrivated, within 2 days, it should be gone… Good luck. I suffer from cysts acne outbrakes by both my right and left jaw. The right side is the most problematic. You can also try a 2 drops of Vitex daily. This will regulate the hormones balance which is why this happened when you started birth control….
