I couldn't agree with you more, yay to clear, acne free skin! I too am not sure what guy's point is???????
Reply:Kiwichick,
Nobody believes me when I tell them how old I am either. So I'm not sure what point guy is trying to make. Besides, I think at our ages, it's about time we experience some nice clear skin!
Reply:Me either BostonGirl, I'm 28 and I am always told I look around 23, people do not believe me when I say I'm 28 plus I no longer have acne, thats got to be good right?!
Reply:Can someone explain to me how accutane makes you look older? I'm 25 and people mistake me for 16 so I don't think it's affected me like that.
Reply:Avron, I'm 33 and accutane does make you look older. Some white hair… Well, actually, I tell you that.
People think I'm 26. But I do feel old. Dry eyes, body hurt. Glasses because of accutane. it happened together with this drug. I don't believe in coincidence since nobody in my family ever wore glasses.
Reply:guy:
accutane DOES affect your skin's ability to heal for some people later on. if your individual body cannot tolerate accutane you will damage your liver to a certain extent. once that is done your body's repairing ability will begin to go down. personally, i have been on 4 courses of accutane and now any cut or pimple takes forever to heal. slowly now, i have been trying to restrenghten my liver by doing all kinds of liver flushing, fasting, and taking probiotics. i wish i would have known this could happen before i started accutane so many years ago.
that is not to say that accutane has not been a miracle drug for a lot of people like guy (congrats by the way! it is nice to see someone free from this terrible affliction). for some, all it takes is one treatment and they no longer have to worry about acne ever again.
on a side note, i used to have moderate acne on my back and mild on my chest before my first round of accutane. after that, it cleared up completely and the scars (black pigmented marks) gradually faded over the course of a few years. the acne on my face, though, seemed to have come back and migrated to new places (cheeks) where before it was only concentrated on my T-zone.
so, guy, to each his own. you might want to try your luck if you really do know and consider all the risks and consequences. best wishes!
Reply:I thought of accutane, my skin specialist(not a derm) said that accutane will make my skin prone to scarring and will give you a haste in aging once I hit the 30s… my acne is not on my back, it's on my face. I can't afford having deep scars
Reply:I had my treatment 6 years ago, and haven't had any acne since. The side effects were dryness of my hair and skin, my eyes became very dry also. I had to stay out of the sun, but started my treatment in the winter so it was ok. Basically because the drugs dry up all the oil produced by your body, everything gets really dry ie inside of your nose, ears everything, but it all returns to normal after the treatment has ceased except you no longer have acne. The side effects are not permanent it is only while you are on the drugs and for a little bit after it. I had regular facials and put treatments in my hair, I know it is all an expense but for me it was so worth it. When I think how long the acne took control over me and my life and all it took was 5 mths to become a different person. I think the length of time you are on it for and how many times you have to do it depends on the extend of your acne. I know someone who had two treatments of 6 mths each (he was REALLY bad) and someone else who had 1 treatment of 3 mths, so it depends. In NZ you have blood tests monthly to check your liver, so you are monitored. The side effects really aren't that bad, the major is the dryness. I also was a little sensitive to sunlight (not badly, just not as tolerant as normal), and had appalling night vision, but like I said before it was only while on the drugs, within two mths of finishing the treatment everything was back to normal. If your skin specialist is any good he/she will be monitioring everything as you should see them quite often, my appts were mthly. Like I said earlier though I am in NZ, so maybe slightly different proceedures here. Hope this has been of some help to you.
Reply:how long has it been since your accutane treatment? what side effects did you experience while taking it?
