Hi – Im in my third week of Accutane. I love that I do not have powder on my face 10 + times a day as a result of oily skin. My makeup looks so much better because it does not slip (yuck) because of the oil. Anyway, I was wondering if after using Accutane, I would not be as much oil as before to produce. Thanks for your time and interest. So far everything is great!

Reply:It?s hard to say. What Accutane basically does is destroy your oil glands, which obviously causes your body (face) to produce less oil. Many people though once they are go off of the Accutane, and their oil glands go back to normal, do experience a increase in oil, but usually not as bad as it originally was. This doesn?t happen immediately after going off of Accutane though, usually about 6 months to years after getting off of Accutane.

I’ve been off accutane for 4 weeks (yes weeks, not months or years) and my skin has reverted back to being oily again. I had great results and beautiful skin while on accutane, but I have my first pimple today (I didn’t have any from the 3rd month-6th month, at all). I’ve been oily for about a week (3rd week off accutane, so it makes sense that after a week of oil I have a pimple now). Never thought I’d be oily again this soon.
I have been off accutane for about 2 months (ended the course in mid August 2010). I noticed that slowly my face started getting oily again about 3 weeks ago and shortly thereafter started getting small bumps on my forehead. Now I’m getting small pimples on my cheeks and close to my hairline. I really enjoyed having nice, clear skin while on accutane and also didn’t experience any acne while on the medication.My dermatologist prescribed a medicated wash and Retin A so I’m hopeful that will help…I guess there are no guarantees even with something as strong as accutane.
