Roaccutane. please reply . [moderate acne] [roaccutane]

ok people. I read many stories, but I think I might be the next to go accutane (unfortunately: /) so please, are my questions, how is it really bad? How big are chances to return for acne? I think something like a mild to moderate acne, but I can not stand it anymore. 3 years of the faculty are alredy lost . went tonight, and it was pretty good . but when I went home and saw my face in the mirror . as many times until now, I was so depressed . what is your opinion, I would take, or not?

Reply:I didn't notice any change in the way my skin heals or scarring occurs. I play a lot of football on astroturf and always fall over and cut my knees, they take no longer to heal than my friends kness do. Pimples wont be a problem. I noticed my skin got a little worse at first, but then it improved a lot. I didn't get any spots on my face for about 5 months into the course, and even then it was only the odd one or two. I suppose it depends on the severity and how you can deal with them. The ageing thing could be true, but at the same time having an acne scarred face will make your skin look aged and weathered. I do look older than I am, and I suppose a that could be down to my skin, but whether thats because of the acne or the medication I couldn't tell you.

Reply:thanks to all for the replies. I heard that accutane makes your skin prone to scaring and haste a skin ageing later on. is that true? how good accutane is for red marks? while using it, do you use any other cream or something on your face? and if bad break out occure, and some big white heads poped out, should I pop them, or would that be a mistake because skin become very sensitive when using roaccutane?

Reply:I was on this for quite a while. My dermotologist told me I had one of the worst cases of acne she had seen. I'm 21 now and was 17-18 when I took the medication.

The initial treatment was due to last 6 months but because of complications my dosage was lowered after 4 months but the course was extended by an additional 6 months. I was taking it for just over a year in total.

I had acne on my back, shoulders, chest, neck and very bad on my face. The Roaccutane slowly took it away, and my face has been more or less clear since. My back, shoulders and the back of my neck never really cleared fully, and from time to time now gets quite bad still, and my chest is still quite bad.

During the year I was on Roaccutane my skin became very, very dry (I used e45 cream to help with this), my lips would crack and bleed (petrolium jelly helped keep them moist) and my nose would be sore inside (petrolium jelly also helped this). Worst of all my joints were amazingly stiff. I had a very limited range of movement in my back (I couldn't bend to pick things up without great pain), knees, elbows and neck. I was prescribed Ibuprofen to help this, but they led to stomach problems.

After the acne had cleared up on my face my skin was left very white, almost grey, taking almost a year to regain colour.

It wasn't a fun time, and although the 12 month course of treatment didn't totally clear my skin, it was worth it. I'm not sure if I would take it again now, but if my skin was to get as bad as it was I wouln't hesitate. My skin is still scarred, uneven and sometimes blotchy, but without the actual pain and embarrasment of the acne my confidence has soared.

Reply:It?s hard to answer questions about Accutane because its different for everyone. Most people just get dry skin and lips, and a small amount of people get the more serious side effects. And its the same for weather the acne comes back, with some people it does and other it doesn?t. From the small information you just gave I would say that you should go on it.
