Sleep (all nighter) and acne [bad eating habits] [couple of days]

I had my acne under control until I started pulling a couple of almost all nighter for school. After that, within a few days I started to break out crazy. It can also be associated with poor diets and the stress I was under. I am currently spring break and my skin has calmed down so much. Has anyone else noticed this trend to break if they mess up their sleeping pattern?

Reply:Absolutely – my skin looks a Disaster if I don't get enough sleep!

Reply:Sleep is crucial not only for your skin but your entire body's healing, cleaning and re-energising process. If you don't sleep, you won't give your skin a chance to rebuild itself as efficiently as before plus your hormones will soon reach disequilibrium.

To have any chance in defeating acne (without side-effects that meds can give), you need to:

- sleep 6-8 hours at roughly the same periods each day
- exercise intensively until you sweat at least 4-5 times a week
- follow a healthy balanced diet (all natural foodstuffs)
- drink 8-12 glasses of water
- try not to let stress/anxiety to control you (so your hormones aren't affected)
- follow a clean lifestyle (no drugs including tobacco & caffeine)

Other optional things:

- get around 15-20mins sunlight to stimulate the body's serotonin
- laugh and be happy

The list seems pretty basic but you would be surprised how many people actually follow it entirely. Moreover, even if you follow it, it doesn't mean your acne will go away completely. Rebalancing hormones are extremely difficult especially in us guys but if all those points are followed it will definitely help. Not only that it will prolong your life.

P.S. if you really do have to do an allnighter, try to drink as much water as possible and definitely drink twice as much if you are also consuming caffeine to keep yourself awake.

Reply:A dermatologist once told me that there's a chemical reaction that occurs after ten o'clock, or so, that promotes the production of sebum if you're still active. So apparently it's better for your skin to be tucked up in bed by ten :) Although, I never found any evidence to back this up, and as a Chinese person (the dermatologist, not me ;) ) I figured – with no offence intended – that his advice might be less based in fact and more based in herbalism speculation.

Reply:im not sure but i think so… based from my experiences. :)
