Starting Accutane – correct doseage? [body acne] [accutane]

Hey everyone,

Im a 6 foot, 180 lbs guy. I start Accutane for acne body on the weekend (my face is clear except for the odd couple normal spots here and there that everyone gets).

Ive chose to start on 20 mg for 4 weeks, then 20 mg and varied 40mgs for a month, perhaps alternating 40 mg and 60 mg than after. This sounds like a good plan or too low?

I've started my treatment, and am rather worried I have to say. The side effect leaflet is giving me the creeps (I had no idea blood disorders were 'a very common side effect' and that some have been diagnosed with Diabetes after treatment!!)

Still, although my body acne isn't terrible, it's everywhere (back, shoulders, legs, chest) and I really want to be rid of it so I'm going to give it my best shot, regardless of the side effects.

Reply:I am female 180 and they gave me 80mgs. I was scared to take that much after seeing people take 20-40mg

Reply:I'm also on 40mg per day and I'm a male, 25 and about 190. I asked my derm about all the doseges because I thought maybe it would be better to start out with 20mg. He advised me that I could start at 20mg if I wanted to but said that it most likely would do nothing. So I ended up starting at 40mg. I kinda figured because of my weight that I would eventually move up to 60mg, but my derm claims staying at the 40mg the whole time is what works best. Hope he's right

Reply:i dont think its too bad , it may be a little low though, but im sure your derm knows whats right for you. im on 40 mg for 5 months and im 125 lbs at 5 ' 6''… and there are many others that weigh less than me that are on a higher dosage. I think it depends on the severity of the acne and weight…and the doctor. mine believes that the lower the better because it does the same as an 100 mg does just with less side effects. maybe this is what yours thinks? less side effects. anyways, i think it will be fine. good luck!

it sounds pretty low.. im 5'3 and 95lbs (im very underweight for my height) and im on 60 mg a day (6months course).. my acne is not that severe.. quite mild actually but persistant..

i been on it for 6days now.. and i duno i think my dosage is too strong.. but the stronger it is maybe the less chance it'll return
