Switching from benzoyl peroxide to Salycic Acid? [benzoyl peroxide] [whiteheads]

Ok, Im sick of using Proactiv. My face just does not seem to respond. It helped for a while, Ill admit, but after using it for over a year or so now, I might say that the last four months, I started with small spots (always whiteheads), sometimes a few large ones and I even consistent, small pimples on the forehead, never leave now, which I never used to have. It makes my skin flaky and very dry, so the benzoyl peroxide is probably just too hard. Anyways, I do when I go back to having bought products affected Salycic Acid store, do you think its my skin getting worse or causing me break again? Or maybe it will help? If Proactiv user, Im just afraid to make another switch, because I think my acne is keeping to really bad, as it once was. I hate to diss the product, because frankly, it works best to treat acne for me, but the scaly skin and the fact that my face is now starting to resist concerns me.

Reply:I've been to the dermatologist a few times and I used Differin Gel, Retin-A Micro, and some other one I can't remember the name, but none of them really did much except irritate the heck out of my skin.

Reply:Actually, there were studies done on which works better: benzoyl peroxide or RX meds (they didn't include Retin-A in the study). For mild to moderate acne, they found that BP had the same results as the prescription meds, only at a cheaper cost. Everyone is different though, and dermatologists can make different mixes of medicines and find the best combination of topicals for you.

Reply:You need to go to the derm and get a scipt for something better.
Maybe benzamycin or azelex acid.Over the counter things dont work that great.

Reply:For the flakey skin try Eucerin Skin Renewal. I haven't tried it, but a lot of people claim it's great for flakey skin. I like Neutrogena Healthy Skin or Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. ProActiv has some ingredients that can cause extra irritation. It has glycolic acid, bp and salycilic acid I believe. Anyway, look up my recent, very long :) post about what's worked for me. It's like ProActiv in that you do it 2x a day with multiple products, but it's cheaper and you can change it around until you find what works for you. I had irritated skin from 10% bp but I found that 2.5% is actually soothing, although it could be the brand I'm using (Neutrogena on-the-spot). Good luck.
