Warnings for Acne Face Treatments

Consciously or not, we may develop some habits that hurting instead of helping our skin condition. Let us find out more about things to be avoided and what to be careful of in acne treatment.

Cosmetics

Some cosmetics irritate the skin and can cause acne by plugging up your pores. The cosmetics chemicals that can cause you the most skin and pore irritation and inflammation are:
- mineral oil
- lanolin
- parabens
- propylene glycol
Look at the label of the cosmetics before you use it. You will find that many cosmetics, soaps, and sunscreens contain these chemicals. Use non-comedogenic skin care products and cosmetics that won’t cause blackheads and whiteheads. Also, find a water base make up, not an oil base.

Soaps

Medicated acne soaps or soaps with scrubbing grains are big sellers to acne sufferers. But since no amount of scrubbing can reach down into the impacted pore where the acne action occurs, such claims as “goes deep into your pores to float out even hidden dirt and oil” are simply false.

Scrubbing

Too many acne sufferers scrub their faces raw with scrubbing grains. One scrub cleanser product once claims “thousands of tiny granules in this product help strip away oils and waxy buildup that can lead to pimples and blackheads”. Consumer Reports magazine’s response to that claim: “Scrubbing to remove waxy buildup might be good for a kitchen floor but not for a face.”

Under the proper conditions, a few seconds of gentle scrubbing once a day with a buffing cleanser can be useful to remove the dry flakes that appear after you have begun your treatment.

Cleansing

Some cleansing products contain comedogenic fatty acids and penetrating oils. Sodium lauryl sulphate and laureth-4, for instance, are highly comedogenic, and any cleansers, moisturizers or foundations containing these detergents should not be used on acne-prone skin. Use only a cleanser that is washed off with water. And always follow with plenty of rinsing.

Be careful to not excessively wash your face as this will dry your skin of the natural protective oil. To wash your face use only castile hand or liquid soap or pure glycerin hand soap.

You can pat your face with a clean hot face towel to bring circulation to your face and to help open and move the toxic material, in the pimple, to the surface. But don’t scrub hard to burst a pimple, just scrub lightly to burst it when it is ready to open. Use the hot towel application only 2-3 times per week.
