Here is some onformation important for this discussion, if they pop pimples.

MYTH: Squeezing pimples causes of acne scars

FACT: Although this may lead to deeper scars or inflammation increased, this is not the origin of the acne scar. Once “pus” has broken through the skin, the scar is formed. A little “pus” is equal to a small scar, many “pus” equals a bigger scar. It is always better to have the pus out of your system than to return it to dissolve into the skin. However, if you do not squeeze properly (and timely) you will see the infection deeper into the skin effect and this will result in an acne lesion is much greater (and probably a larger scar).

Reply:I'm glad I'm not the only popping advocate. Though I too gotta stress how important it is not to get crazy and make the skin worse. I too have noticed when there is a yellow head and I leave it alone it lingers there forever and leaves a more pronounced red mark, but if I pop it (carefully mind you!) it goes away in about 24 hours. I don't use a needle, but I can see how that would also work. My tactic is after a shower when my pores are open, to gently push the pus out with clean fingers, then drain the rest and apply a little tea tree oil or alcohol to make sure the pus doesn't stay on the skin. It takes a while to dry out after the process and usually the spot falls off in about a day.

Reply:Yes, very correct! Pop at the right time, use a sterile needle to poke a hole so the sebum can escape much easier. Once the pus looks like it has cleared out, stopped, don't go for broke, it'll only cause the sebum to be pushed further into the pore, saving the pus for more infection eventually.

Reply:I believe it ! As a test ,I had this one zit that was filled with pus on my temple and did not pick it and let it reabsorb back into the skin.The result was I now have a huge red mark the size of a nickel that won't go away. Normally when I got a zit there I would have extracted it as soon as it came to a head,apllied some BP and within a week it would have been gone without a trace.Sometimes its better to pick,and sometimes it ain't.

Reply:Guys this does work. Mind you only drain them if you see PUS. To drain them I reccommend you using a thin needle – disinfect it first by boiling it in hot water and putting it rubbing alcohol for a minute, then poke the pimple with the needle to drain the puss out. ONLY squeeze (DRAIN) them until their is an entrance out. You dont want to squeeze them to make them bigger, if its closed you only introduce more blood into the pimple for bacteria to grow in therefore making it bigger. Make sure there is drainage before your go full Sqeeze ahead (LOL). Please NOTE: Using your finger nails only adds for the wound to be bigger and you risk introducing more bacteria to the pimple.

This is my personal technique that gets rid of my pimples rather cystic acne faster and heals them smoothly. Basically it speads up the healing process. I do this to stop the scar from getting bigger.

Hello. Im only 17 and I have bad acne scars on my shoulders and back. I go to a dermatologist on Tuesday the 17th to see. I still consider microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing (parents pay), but I was wondering if there was anything else I could possibly do before you go to these two extremes. As long as I have these scars, I do not think Ill ever swim, much less pull my shirt in public. Its just such a terrible thing that some of us have this problem! I was wondering what treatment you would recommend one. Also do you know if insurance covers part of the cost of one of these treatments?

Reply:I would make appointments with several (at least 3) different dermatologists that specialize in acne scar revision. I'd have a consultation with each of them and see what each of them recommends for your particular type of scarring. At that point I think you'll have some valuable opinions and then I would research the options they have presented you with. Then it will be easier to make a decision as to what you want to do.

so what should I do if my doctor does not listen to me?
I have an HMO plan and my doctor seems to think he can treat my acne and rosacea. He would not give me a referral to a derm. I did some research on finacea and asked him if I could try out for my rosacea and my acne scars. He made me feel like a complete idiot by telling me that finacea used as a bleaching agent and is not for rosacea treatment. He was emphatic about. I tried to tell him that I would post on this bulletin board to read from people who have used and it seems to work for them . better than Metrogel.
but, he wrote a Metrogel prescription. He is the doctor, so I felt I could not really argue with him to keep. He did not even know what finacea was when I first asked him about it.
i m very frustrated.

Reply:Ah! HMO dilemma!

There are probably countless reasons why your PCP (primary care physician) refuses to prescribe finacea. One, he does not have good feedbacks about it. Two, he does not have enough knowledge about it. Three, he is an old physician who is into traditional medicines. (Because he is a PCP, most likely he is not an expert about skin). Fourth, it could be HMO related. HMO covers certain drugs while it denies many. Do you know if your HMO covers finacea? It may be one reason why your doc is not prescribing it. It's just a guess.

Unfortunately, there aren't very many HMO physicians who are emphatic. They are more concerned about squeezing in as many patients as they can in a day so they can earn as much as they can considering the meager amount the HMO pays them. If you can switch to a PPO plan, you will have more options and you will be better off. No referrals needed and you can see whoever you want to. But if you do not have that option, then by all means, shop around for a good dermatologist or PCP. Check their records from the Board of Medicine and observe their office. Call before you make an appointment. If they cannot give you time on the phone, most likely they will not be able to give you good service in person either.

Reply:Don't feel so bad. You are entitled to question your drs. opinion. After all, you are the one taking the medication. I would call a derm and ask questions. They may be able to answer at least some of your questions right over the phone. I would also recommend researching the med he did give you. This way you know exactly what your taking. If venting makes you feel better, by all means, vent. It is a wonderful way to get rid of stress.

Reply:I suggest that you switch doctors. Look through your plan and find other doctors whom are covered, and shop around. It isn't your doctor's job to ignore your opinion and belittle your research. There is no reason for him to refuse to refer you to a dermotologist other than that he wants your money going to him rather than someone else. Switch doctors: that's my advice.

I just can not find a good doctor Artecoll on my acne scars. There is an experienced doctor in Mexico, which for some unknown reason, will not return to me. It seems that, for now, I have to look at other options.
I would like to hear from people who have had Collagen fillers for acne scars (ice pick, pock, etc). I have shallow scars on both my forehead and cheeks.
Does Does anyone know a good doctor in the U.S. Im in New Jersey. Also, how much do you think full face injections would cost?

Reply:i would get a thermage done.it heats the collegen beneath the skin and builds up to fill in the depressed area.its basicly used for tightning the skin but has been approved for acne and acne scars.it is suppose to shrink ur oil glands.i had one done full face for 1350 dollars at''all about faces'' in harrisburg,pa.it will take a few months before u notice anything but after over 3 months my skin is smoothing out.

Reply:collegen and fat transfers r temp fillers that r usually asorbed back into the body.botox is also temp filler.hyaluronic acid is a new filler i dont know much about.so is silikon 1000.dont ever go to a fly by night operation that work out of the back of their car that injects silicon in ur face.they may ruin ur face and u will have to spend thousands getting that silicon out of ur face.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of the dark pigmetation that you can get acne (scars in principle)? My skin on my chest and back, like a number of different colors. Im asian, so my skin is a dark olive color but I have brown spots and sometimes a little raised and theryre white.

I v regarded laser surgery, but i dont know if itl a difference.Also I have the scars on my breasts and I fear that breast-fed cancer.

I Il get scars on my face, but they seem to help fade.

Plz with these brands makes me feel so unattractive. Thank You.

Reply:You could always try skin peels, they've always worked for me. I also know that amino acids work really well to fade spots, you can look it up, they're usually in soaps and cleansers, but maybe there's a place online you can get it pure. Amino acids are healthy for your skin and wont harm it. It's also good for stretch marks. I'd give that a try. Hope this helped.

In any case, his acne scars ever permanent? : Confused:
I know the red marks fade over time will disappear. But Im about to leave the pits, even after the redness has disappeared. It seems they will not fill and smooth out. There is no more redness and scarring from spots that have been away for about 3 months.

Reply:Well if it is pitted (indented) then it is a permanent scar but there?s many things to can do to try to smooth it out. You can either get creams or at home chemical peel kits that help scars. You can also go to a dermatologist and get chemical peels and other procedures that can help scars.

Hi all!

I have agreed to a series of six medical microderms done to tighten my pores, even my skin tone, and hopefully improving small acne scars. The nurse uses medical grade Dermagenesis machine. First, a few years ago, I had 3 Salon microderms done which worked wonders for my skin. I couldnt keep them here, but a few years later decided to complete a series of 6 to get. So I had my first yesterday, and HVE to say, it was a rough LOT more than those living deeper because it was a medical grade machine. But I must tell you that the strangest things. I had this little acne scar on the tip of my nose (slightly larger than a pore). She really worked on my nose, and I can not believe it, but that small scar is almost gone! I can not wait to see all 6 and the results. Will let you know. By the way, Im paying $ 500 for 6, which is great in MA. VAT, I have at home microderms no significant results (Dermanew, Epidermx, etc.)

Reply:Hmm I have had the exact opposite experience. I had a series of 6 microdermabrasion treatments (done at plastic surgeon's office) and 6 of the highest grade 70% AHA peels done with NO results. In fact, I almost wanted to write a complaint but figured it probably wouldn't get me anywhere.

The epidermx and religious use of camellia oil is the only two things that have taken away my pitting scars!

I am glad you are having such a good experience though, $500 is a GREAT PRICE! I paid over $800
