my question is, I hear much talk of antibiotics prescribed for acne sufferers, so why hasnt this antibiotic that I helping my acne at all? will my acne get worse as I finish the antibiotics (for them for 10 days)? I think I do not really understand how antibiotics work in the first place so if anyone can help me with these questions would be much appreciated. There is also a special antibiotic for people with acne? The doctor made it sound like the Rx he gave me was the only kind of antibiotic, or at least the best out there.

I don't see how taking the antibiotic for your throat could make your acne worse. That shouldn't be a concern.

I also began taking antibiotics at the same time I started taking Yasmin a little over 4 months ago. After about a month into it, my skin was much worse than I expected it to be and I was real discouraged. At that point, I STOPPED taking the antibiotic and things started looking better right away. I dont' know what it was, but the ampicillin (antibiotic) and the Yasmin were not getting along it seemed like. Anyways, you may want to try stopping the antibiotics.

I used Desogen before and it worked wonders, my skin was flawless after the initial breakout. The only thing was that it made me gain weight and I was a total head case all the time. I can say the same for Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Demulin.

I have heard good things about Yasmin. Ortho Tri-Cyclen was terrible for me. So I am imagining the -LO wouldn't be that different.

Any other ideas or "I second that"'s? lol

2 months ago I signed up for microdermabrasian and laser treatments for my scars, etc. I also started the B5-B5 Vita Cure Acne Clear Skin Formula. 6 weeks ago I had about 20 seater, of which 10 were cystic, Today I got a pimple and it is not cystic. my skin has cleared up so remarkable and so fast, I just had to share. I did notice that my breakout increased my time on my next round, so I plan on increasing my b5 b5 dose.

I suggest giving a try, but make sure you a good company. the place where I am (above) guarantees results.

b5 has worked on the cysts from down under for me. pore size? hmmm- it could be from microdermabrasian and lasers…

i only use over the counter benzol peroxide for spot treatments.

only side effects are decreased appetite, slightly looser bowel movements. b5 is water soluble i believe, so your body just rids of whatever it can't use.

my recommendation is stick with it for at least 6 weeks and don't be stingy on the brand or the dosage.

Your body produces vitamins and minerals from food eaten during the day. An additional intake of a multivitamin, the reason would acne.

It a sign that your body says, hey, there is too much of ****( to fill in the blank with the name of a vitamin or mineral) to be my system. “

I also heard that multivitamin was generally poor. Why someone say this? For:

(a) Sometimes you have an allergic reaction to certain things in the vitamins that you dont know about.

(b) vitamins and minerals best alone. vitamins GNC sells only – not MULTI. Example with zinc and vitamin C on days 1, and vitamin E than magnessium day2, etc. .

(c) sometimes our bodies need certain vitamins in the multivitamin. For example, too much iron is very poor, along with other minerals.

Drink lots of water all through the day. Very important! I fill a 2-liter bottle with water and carry it with me wherever I go.

Add to injury, some people (men and women) are prone to BAD recations to MULI-VITAMINS. It can very well be the CAUSE or aggravator of the acne.

MULI-VITAMINS have things that our bodies all don't need. Iron is not neccessary to most. And for us acne people, we don't need Iodine nor B12. As for B5, it helps in large amounts, but also gives BREAKOUTS for the first couple weeks if taken in large amounts.

Why would MULTI-VITAMINS give breakouts to some people? Here is the deal:

All the vitamins and minerals in the MULTI don't go together. They are not compatible. Example is the 'iron' and the 'vitamin d.' Together, they produce TOXINS that your liver MAY not be able to handle, thus producing a reaction = acne.

Thats why some nutrition experts will tell you to check WHICH vitamins and minerals your body needs – thus taking ONLY those seperatly. Someone might need Magnessium, Zinc and Antioxidants (vitamins a thru d). While someone might need B6, B5, Copper, and Vitamin C. All depends on the body.

Taking the FULL multi vitamin might cause acne. The body tells you: "hey, I have too much 'so and so' in my system."

I am off the MULTI's this week. Guess what. No major new zits. Related? Who knows.

Just think NATURALLY. Your body produces any needed vitamins and minerals from food eaten througout the day. Excess in minerals can be harmful. Do you think the ancient civilizations took MULTI-VITAMINS everyday? Who knows, but chances are they didn't.

On the other hand, I still take a daily VITAMIN C pill. Vitamin C is an exception because it passes thru the liver with ease and doesn't stay in the body system. It helps with the immune system, makes blood flow, and helps with heals.

My friends who have CLEAR skin don't take a single vitamin.

As of yesterday, I have totally stopped all my MULTI-VITAMINS – well have to see how it goes for the coming week. Nevertheless, I will continue my daily Vitamin C intake, because Vitamin C does no harm what so ever.

On another note, I have an appointment with a NATURAL HEALING doctor next week. He specializes in herbal remedy and things like that. I will make sure I ask him all these VITAMIN questions and hope everything goes well.

Eventually, I think I will go simple with EITHER an iodine free multi or a simple antioxidant.

I truly think there are some things in today's multi vitamins that our bodies won't need too much of such as iron, b12, iodine, and some copper.

I was getting the deep, under-the-skin type pimples. No whitehead or anything on them, and they were very painful. Now thinking back I realize that this type of acne is not something that can be cured with a cleanser, etc. It's way too deep under the surface to treat that way.

About 6 months ago, after trying several types of multivitamins (such as GNC Ultra, etc), I gave up on my quest for a multivitamin with large amounts of vitamin A, etc. For about 18 months the multis I took had huge amounts of B vitamins, and also iodine.

I switched to a cheaper, simpler multi with only 100% RDA of most things, and no iodine. My acne started to change, from the large painful kind to typical acne that most people suffer with (such as from shaving, etc). I remember the last huge pimple I had on my nose, it was last August. The nose pimples were always HUGE, and would last for weeks. It's funny how I remember specifically the last one I had…I had gone to a luncheon with coworkers, and it was so embarrassing.

For a few months I stuck with the generic multi, and then about 2.5 months ago I stopped taking a multi. The only supplement I take now is a simple antioxidant with some A, C, E, and selenium. Nothing else.

I can't say for sure what in the multi was worsening my acne, but SOMETHING was. I know some studies say large amounts of B12 can aggravate acne, as well as iodine. But since stopping the multis, my skin is a million times better, and my acne now is not even recognized by most people.

In replace of the multi, I try to eat more healthy to get what my body needs. Your body can absorb more from food than it can from a pill anyway.

Just my story, hope it helps.

It dried out my skin, and I think it even led to more breakouts. My skin couldn't "breath" with this stuff on it. It definitely should not be used as a moisturizer.

The Aveeno shaving gel and daily moisturizer work so well for me, I won't use anything else.

What Aveeno Moisturizer may I ask do you use? I think I am going to stop the Aloe Vera use too. I seem to be breaking out more myself. Very frustrating.

I sure did try aloe vera gel. I read how it was supposed to be so good for skin, so I used it quite a bit. It was a clear 99% aloe vera gel.

I used to use the Mach 3 Turbo, and other multi blade razors. I always got ingrown hairs (from shaving too far below the skin) and razor bumps on my neck from irritation. Not any more though!

Obviously, I NEVER shave against the grain.

Good question, the only single blades I can find are disposable Bics which don't really work too well. You could try one of those cutthroat blades that old people use but am sure you will cut yourself much more.

The razor market is so ridiculous, first they release singles followed by doubles then triple blades were all the craze especially with the "Gillette Mach 3". All my friends used it and I thought it actually wasn't any good. Now we are being inundated with quadruple blades with "Wilkinson Quattro". This is going over the top. Next it will be facial lawn mowers. Don't believe the hype!

Everyone says to shave with the grain but this doesn't give me a close enough shave so I also shave against it (upwards). Afterwards my skin is very smooth and stubble-free and I have never experienced inflammation before. The only problem I am experiencing is my skin seems a bit patchy afterwards, like some parts of the skin are lighter (where it has been shaved closer?) than others. I thinking about switching to a single blade and seeing if this produces better results.

With regards to post-shaving creams/lotions: you can use a mild alcohol-free toner like witch hazel or antibacterial gel which will kill bacteria before it gets into the open follicles. This helps to stop Pseudofolliculitis barbae before it starts (if you are worried about that problem).

I just use plain old after-shave/eau de toilette like CK, Davidoff etc.

The best razor is the Gilette Sensor Excell with 2 blades; you don't need anymore than that. Always shave with down ward strokes, and never go against the grain. As far as shaving balms go use Clinique Aloe Shave gel, and buy their post shave healer – they are brilliant products.

Has Orthotricyclen?
My dermatologist says my skin is not bad enough for a second course of Accutane.
What are my options now?
I moderate acne (it was more mild, until I went on Alesse . that ruined my skin) 0.
I hear Orthotricyclen good for moderate acne sufferers.
What you can do to prevent nausea?
Im on Differin now – it works, but does not help with the constant breakouts . heals only (very slowly) what is already there.

Could you explain what androgenic progestin is and what pills are better for acne in this regard? I am considering changing the pill I am on. Right now I am on orthocyclin (not tri or lo, just plain ortho) and I have been battling hormone related cysts ever since I have been on it.

I'm currently sitting at the computer while my boyfriend is on the couch reading…I just washed my face and applied a gob of clearasil to every zit I could find. When I entered the room after my application, I said to him "look at me, I'm gorgeous". He said, "of course you are".

I'm not saying you need to parade around in front of your boyfriend with your zit cream on (maybe I'm just weird )…. But, give him a chance. I understand your skin has gotten worse lately from your current bcp – have you talked to him about that? He may be more supportive than you think.

I think I am going to try out Ortho Tri-cyclen pretty soon – as soon as I get my period.
I have never been breaking out so much – I hate Alesse – I only had mild/moderate acne before Alesse.
It really messed up my skin.
I'm still breaking out 3 weeks later (I went off it 3 weeks ago), and it doesn't look like its stopping any time soon.
My topicals arn't working very well either.
Does anybody know why I broke out on Alesse? Was it just an initial breakout? Did I need to adjust to the pill? I went off it because I was breaking out a lot – not just a little!!!
I have no choice but to try a BCP.
My dermatologist won't prescribe any antibiotics – just topicals (none are working).

I don't want to face my boyfriend… I guess at least I'll know if he really is the one for me – if he's there through the bad as well as the good right?

when i first realized something was wrong my leg started to get really sore and it ached really bad. eventually it swelled up (after 2 days of the soreness) and it got blueish and it was really hard to walk. all in all it looked really different from my other leg so i went to the hospital and stayed for 3 days.. went on blood thinners immediately and basically didn't walk for a month. the biggest, obvious symptom was the soreness and appearance (swollen). hope that helped :wave:

Now i'm on Diane 35 and it is clearing me up really well! I've been on it only 1 month and one week, and now…i'm getting tingling sensasions in my legs. I think i'm developing blood clots, so i'm going to the Dr tomorrow to switch before i DIE!

I'm thinking of trying Marvelon/Desogen … anyone try this one???
