I was wondering what everyone thought the best over-the-counter acne treatment was? Its not something you want to talk in person with others, so I thought I would just ask. I really need to find something new that works. Oh . and usually how much does it cost?

Reply:Is ur skin oily-blemish skin? If yes, I highly recommend Avene. Try google for that brand.. i bought the cleanser, toner and mosturiser.. its all I need.. miracle.. tried ProActiv, Dalacin T, Dalacin C, C-mycin, tetracycline, minocycline, doxycycline.. u name them.. useless.. Avene work best for me. Doctor recommendation. Just my opinion though

Reply:guy, be careful with the benzoil peroxide wash.
My face and body did not react good to anything with benzoil peroxide.
I broke out everytime I took that.
Benzoil peroxide is the main incredient in the proactive acne products.
I'v had no luck with it.
My face and body have reacted much better using Salicylic Acid.

Doxycycline is the holygrail for getting rid of acne.
I'm 35 and have had acne my whole life.
Doxycycline has been the best product to get rid of my acne on my face and body.
You have to go to a derm to get this prescribed
If you have no insurance.
It costs 25 dollars at CVS.
If you have insurance. It will cost very little.

Also, there's 2 versions of doxycycline.
One version costs 25 dollars without insurance and another version which is called Dorf, costs 162 dollars without insurance.
The one thats 162 dollars is the pure form version.
My pharmacist said there basically the same thing.

There is no shelf product you can buy that will stop the acne from growing.
Only an anti biotic will stop it.
The Doxycycline is 30 pills. Get the version thats 100 mg.
Take one pill a day

Products in the store I would recommend.
I would recommend Biore pure unclogging scrub.
It has 2 percent Salicylic Acid and microbeads which will exfoliate your skin nicely.
Here's how it looks. CVS, Wallgreens and Walmart sells it.

Then use, Dove essential nutrients Toner.
It has Green Tea, Vitamin A, E, B5 and Zinc. Its a non alcohol toner and non comedogenic. Leave the toner on. Dont wash it off.

Then use, Neutrogena multi vitamin acne treatment. Its a lotion with lots of vitamins and salicylic acid. You just leave it on your face. Dont wash it off. This lotion is very good for acne on your face.
Dont use it on your body.

I would also recommend using Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub.
This has 2 percent Salicylic Acid and is very good for body acne.
Its the best scrub i'v used for body acne.
Leave this on your body for like 2 minutes then wash off.

When your body acne goes down you might have redmarks from the body acne.
The best thing for this is an AHA product.
I would recommend the Alpha Hydrox enhanced lotion.
It has 10% AHA in it.
It costs about 13 dollars.
They sell it in Eckerd and Riteaid.

Reply:Neostrata for sure. It's the only OTC that's ever worked for me … and I think I've tried pretty much all of them!

All the stuff in the "oily / acne prone" range is really good (it's the green colour group). It's all glycolic acid based (4%-10%) and the blemish gel (miracle product for me) also has salicytic acid (5%).

A bit expensive … but worth it. It's also fine under make-up (hurray!)

I think the "neostrata" line is different in Canada and the US … I use the Neostrata Canada line. It's available online. In Canada, it's at most pharmacies and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Reply:I just recently tried "bye bye blemish" and it has worked wonders! I have mild acne and nothing else worked for me. "bye bye blemish" contains sulfur as its active ingredient and quickly dried out my zits without overdying the skin. I peel horribly with benzoyl peroxide and have sensitive skin and this is my savior! Definitely give it a shot. Sulfur is better than salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide but it's more expensive which is probably why it's not so popular.

I haven't found that any over the counter products helped, but I got a prescription for Doxycycline and I saw clear results w/in 2 days ! I was shocked, but she said it's really good and works fast. I was so excited. She also gave me a benzoil peroxide wash, but it's the pills that totally work best for me and I have tried everything !

I tried proactive and there was another one that was out there and it felt like it burned my face and it just made me break out more, so I couldn't continue. I wanted fast results and that's what I got from the Doxycycline.

Reply:For non systic acne and for the occasional out breaks I prefer to use a glass stick called " Doctor Burts Herbal Blemish Stick" It's an all natural treatment that you roll on and it usually zaps it quick. Easy on the wallet too. Google to find. Hope that "clears" things up.

Reply:I've had really bad acne for a long long time. I've tried everything, been to so many docs. nothing helped to my satisfaction. the only thing that really helped was proactiv. I'm not trying to sell the product, just honestly share its benefit in my life. u should try it. its free for a month. u can even use it on ur body which I sometimes do. a hint is to use the sulfur mask 1x a week and also get a comeodone extractor which u should use after a hot shower. finally eat right and drink water. it makes a huge difference. try juicing vegetables. I do it one a week and freeze it in a plastic containter and defrost it daily. that has also helped my skin, not to mention given me much energy. try these things. good luck with everything…

I chose it a few days ago, it was 1.5% with salicylic “vitamins A, E, B5 and natural fruit extracts. It was cheap and even claims to help tone / help reduce red marks from past acne, along with cleaning up your face . I might consider trying this before I start differin. or perhaps even with differin. Has anyone used this? did it help, or would you recommend? There is a warning about the increased sensitivity of the sun, how serious is it for you? Thanks for any help.

Reply:I used it a little while ago and liked it. I don?t know how well it clears the red marks though because I changed the products I was using shortly after starting (but it didn?t have anything to do with the Neutrogena cream).

Reply:I still have some of that neutrogena multivitamin moisturiser…yeh it made my face sting and go red too…but im sure it did help with red marks a little. Also, if i put it on at night, it seemed to increase pimples coming to a head in the morning..so dont do that, but give it a try. As peachy D said, everyones different. Keep it away from your eyes too!!

Any experience with this? How did it work for you? My dermatologist told me to start with that instead of Clearasil acne treatment. I used it tonight . and I really hope I do not wake up in the morning with a break or something. (

Also. . Im now on Sulfa / Septra (?) Have any of you ever used it yet, what were your experiences like?

One thing! My derm. Gave me two small tubes of that stuff to peroxide Using them cysts on my way to go. Will I soon be a change or it will take some time?

Newbie here need advice [minocyclin] [acne treatment]

My derm recently my acne treatment pills from

minocyclin 2/day
differin gel 500mg twice daily
erythromycin mornings

erythromycin nights
clindamycin gel pads mornings
tazorac nightly

she said that because supposedly my acne had built up a resistance to the drugs and it became stronger, but I think my breaking out was impact of my lazy and skipping doses, sometimes not washing and not using clindamycin for at least 5 months.

My old treatment made me 100% clear, my new treatment works, but Tazorac completely kills my skin – leave it as a tomato, that is peeling. Differin did not this.

Do you think I let my doc know about how I was lazy and I need my old treatment to try again? Tazorac cuz this is my face kicked in the face . lol

Reply:I don't know about you, but I gave up the prescriptions.

I now use a non-rx method (been 1 month) and I am very happy:

salicylic acid 2% astringent
glycolic acid 5% pads
benzoyl Peroxide 5% face wash

if you want, ask a derm for BENZAMYCIN gel. Helps a lot as well. I think this would be the only exception from the prescriptions.

Reply:Why didn't you just tell her that in the first place before she put you on a bunch of other stuff? I mean if the other stuff was really successful until you stopped using it regularly, it seems logical to conclude that's the reason why it stopped working, not that your acne built up a tolerance to it. I don't know if switching back to the other stuff will work now that you've started with this other stuff, but if the stuff is killing your skin maybe you should try some kind of moisturizer or something.

I tried doing a search on the web and didnt really find what I wanted to know. A-do laser treatments for active acne permanently cured? Two-laser thing has been approved for the treatment of active acne scars not only on the (New York u0026gt;)?

Reply:Does Smoothbeam affect hair growth in any way? I'm a guy who wants to get this done, but I still want to be able to grow a beard afterwards.

Reply:i think the smoothbeam is fda approved for back acne but most laser centers are treating the face with it too. when i went in for my consultation i was expecting the derm to say "no i don't think you need this" because i have no noticeable scarring from acne and had at the most 2 pimples. my chief complaints were the time spent on maintaining clear skin which for me is about an hour and 1/2 a day and oiliness. i guess i just want to be one of those people who wash their faces in the shower and leave for work in 10 minutes from waking.

well my final decision is to wait until the price goes down to do it.

Reply:that be WAAAAAAAAy beyond my price range esp for something that isnt a cure. Have you tried Accutane COOKIE>? So I guess it must have been approved for by the feds if you can get it…….where do you live?

Reply:from what i researched, i think smoothbeam is promising for both active acne and acne scarring. i think after you've done a series of treatments you can expect a remission of 6months to a year. the laser is supposed to damage sebaceous glands so there will be less oil-production. what i don't understand is do the glands recover from this damage and start to produce oil like crazy again or is the damage permanent? actually i had a consultation w/a derm today about smoothbeam but i didn't think to ask these questions.oh well. i'm so wanting to get the smoothbeam done but where i went for the consultation it's $2600.00 for a series of 3 treatments. i guess it's because it would be done by a nationally known laser specialist.

Recently I developed a small bump on my penis. It felt like a pimple to develop, but had a harsh environment underneath. I have tried using acne treatments for a while and never changed, so I finally went crazy and tried to squeze out but nothing came out. Some of the skin on top of it is now removed and I can now see a white spot about half the size of the tip of a TAC. I have no idea what to do because Im not sure if this is acne and if it will sell you all the information will help

Reply:Yes it was on a spot where I shaved. However, i've never had one get this big. Any advice on how to treat an ingrown hair and how to prevent them in the future?

Reply:Did the lump occur where you shaved? It sounds like an ingrown hair to me.

Reply:Oh and this morning after I took a shower a thin layer of white skin peeled off (kind of like a blister) so now the area isn't white it's just what normal skin with a layer missing looks like. It still feels like there is something under the skin but i'm not sure.

Unfortunatly, I can no longer afford my medication, much less a Derm. S nomination. It would be appreciated if someone could Please, give me any feedback on any of these meds for treatment of acne, because they are the only ones we could afford. (That I could find on my own research. Yet). Possible side effects, how long it worked, any u0026 name, milla grams, etc?

Reply:Bactrim works great for me..with no sideeffect….it actually cleared my skin in 2 weeks…1 tablet a day… half in the morning..and half at Nite….

Reply:my friend has been taking doxy since october (50mgs in morning, 50mgs in evening) and it has cleared her up completely. i will highly recommend it! she is almost 13 and has had no side effects at all. also, the price of 60 50 mg capsules is about $35(1 month supply).

Reply:Hmmm…I took Bactrim for 4 days and got sick. It gave me horrible headaches and fever. I am also afraid of the long term effects of it, cause it has many side effects. My derm about two weeks ago prescribed Duricef. the price of that on the net is pretty cheap, I think 12.00 a bottle or something. So far, so good except it is giving me mild diarrea now (sorry to share that.) Hopefully it will get better and i can continue it cause it seems like it is working…

Iv been using a MD Forte cleanser. I also use a toner and dove Neutrogena Multi Vitamin Acne Treatment. I think this MD Forte cleanser is very good. It has glycolic acid. You have to get it prescribed by a dermatologist. Has anyone tried the MD Forte cleanser or lotion.

Reply:I used to use the MD forte cleanser 1 (the lowest level one) and it worked really good for a while. It made my skin incredibly smooth. After a month my skin started to get really sensitive and pink all the time. I can't use it anymore

I have used it, but it wasn't prescribed by derm, i got it at a spa. I used it for a long time and liked it. I can see how one would feel like it isn't cleaning, but it does help to gently exfoliate with the glycolic acid in it. I would use make up remover first, then use the MD Forte glycolic wash. Also, the instructions on mine says to use it first on dry skin and work it into the skin, then add water to face and continue to work into skin. Then rinse. Over time, I saw a noticable difference in skin texture becasue of the gentle exfoliation. I just haven't been using it lately because I've had some bad breakouts and don't want to irritate those areas with glycolic acid. I mainly used the MD Forte when my skin was clear, but had marks from previous breakouts.

I felt like I did even have any cleanser on while washing my face even though I poured a huge amount in my hands to start with. I was wondering if anyone knows of an acne treatment that the absence of antibiotics, probiotics or accutane? I tried tetracycline and it started working, but had to stop because it made me puke all day long. I also switched to Yasmin Ortho . maybe I should wait and see how it goes? Thanks:)

Reply:Well people have posted about how different face washes have worked for them. You might check out some of the threads about tea tree oil and all these other kinds of stuff that has worked for others…might work for you as well. How severe is your acne…is it bad enough that you might consider taking accutane? I know I'm on allergy medicine and accutane at the same time and my allergy medicine dries my sinuses out completely so we'll see how that goes.

Reply:I'm not really against antibiotics, I've just heard that after you stop taking them the acne usually comes back. I'm diabetic, so taking antibiotics makes it easier for me to get yeast infections and such (which I don't want…yuck! lol) And with Accutane, supposedly some of the side affects are dry skin, dry mouth, dry everything… and I'm on Adderall for ADD and that makes me feel dehydrated enough lol. I'm just sick of medications already! Is there an effective more natural approach to this?
