Hello everyone,

I read somewhere in recent days about the following treatments:

1) Zinc Gluconate
2) Aveeno Acne Treatment bar
3) Dermaclear sulphu soap

Has anyone had great success with this and are using them for a long time?
I m just after a major outbreak of Neutrogena Clear Pore lotion, so at this moment I am just using water, my skin is so dry. I broke off 1% BHA lotion PCs so maybe Im better off staying away from salicylic acid .

Any ideas?

Reply:I would continue to use BHA or Sal acid cause it is opening your pores up and that looks like a breakout but believe me be thankful they are surfacing cause the longer they are clogged the worse they will become. Unclog those pores before you get cyst or nasty zits.

Reply:Have you tried Cetaphil? That is a good wash and gentle with no drying agents in it!!!!

HELP! terribly sensitive skin! [free soap] [acne treatment]

I have the most sensitive skin in the world! and the worse acne I with them. Ive found that I needed to make products that are free from perfume, with no soap, oil-free, etc., and of course will not clog pores. Ive tried so many things and my skin is always red, itchy or break out. I do not have many big pimples, just little ones and blackheads.

Please anyone have suggestions what can be, or should I try? such as face wash? acne treatment? light moisturizer? and / or makeup?

Reply:my mom and I both have moderate acne and she orders us face care stuff from a woman that she works with. The brand is sense (accent mark on the last e) and i will admit that its somewhat expensive (even compared to waht some of us are used to dishing out for some products) but it lasts multiple times longer. One bottle of face wash lasts me about 6 months and my face is almost clear. I have sensitive skin that will be oiley in places and dry in others and this stuff really makes my skin feel great. I suggest it to anyone and everyone. It's well worth the extra couple of bucks.

I believe you have the exact same problem as me. Your symptoms are the same as mine. It took me a decade of trying everything to realize I'm allergic to all face washes, moisturizers, astringents, soap, etc. I can't wash my face at all. I don't wear makeup because it makes the flakes on my face stand out worse. For the last several weeks I've been trying a whole new routine…and I believe this just may be my ultimate cure and solution based on the results I've gotten.

I rinse my face with cool water and pat it dry. I apply a few tiny drops of jojoba oil on my face and rub it in. This is how I "wash" my face because jojoba oil unclogs your pores. Then I apply my "moisturizer" which is just a mixture of jojoba oil, Vitamin E oil, sweet almond oil, and rice bran oil. Just a tiny amount goes a long way. Rub that in good for awhile. After 10 minutes, whatever is left on the surface should be blotted off with a kleenex.

Here is the recipe for the "moisturizer potion" I use.

jojoba oil 4 ounces
Vitamin E oil 1 ounce
sweet almond oil 2 ounces
rice bran oil 1 ounce

Mix this all together and pour into two 4 ounce amber bottles with droppers. Makes 8 ounces total. If you use this on your face it will last a long time. A little goes a long way. If you use it all over your body like me it will last one month. I buy all these oils in bulk online and save tons of money. Make sure each one is totally pure. Check the ingredients. If anything else is added to them don't buy it!

Please don't waste your time with anymore face washes and moisturizers and soaps. Take it from me—I wasted a decade's worth on that crap. If you are allergic to everything like me…you will never find anything that works. It will only keep getting worse and you'll fall into despair. I wish I had discovered my allergy years ago. It would have saved me lots of heartache.

Just note that when you start to use jojoba oil your skin will get worse for a little while. All your blackheads will rise to the surface as acne. That is the only way to get rid of them. The jojoba oil is just cleaning out your pores. Keep with it. I've been keeping with it for a couple of months and now my skin is getting much better and softer and smoother too. I hear that this "moisturizer combination of oils" prevents wrinkles and also helps get rid of puffiness and discoloration under the eyes.

Anyway, stick with this routine for at least six months without giving up. It's the only way to know for sure how your skin will take to it. And good luck. If I can help in any other way let me know.

I wouldnt recommend going with anything you can buy on a Wal Mart shelf, these products are made for everyone, and we are not everyone.

Try all natural products, they work incredibly well. If you go to a skin care place (Merle Norman has a very good skin care line, and like to give out samples). Also do a search for natural skin care products. They are wonderful for sensitive skin. A brand to try: Epidermx

A solution for right now – tea tree oil bar and water day and night.

For a moisturizer – Dermabutter! made by Epidermx (it's a little expensive, but soooo worth it for sensitive skin)

I have the EXACT same problems, with the very sensitive skin, along with the acne (a lot of little bumps, and blackheads) I just started Differin Cream but i have to stop it because it's making my skin very dry, with red patches… my face just feels irritated. I've also tried Clindamycin (sp?) with Neostrata mix, that worked for a while in the summer, but once winter came my skin was irritated. Benzoclin also was irritating for me! I think i've used too many products on my skin, i don't ever recall my face being so sensitve. I think im going to give up on the topical stuff. I started Marvelon bcp, so i hope that helps… also im going to try a more healthy lifesetyle, like exercising regularly, eating more veggies and drinking more water. I hope you find something that works for you!!

I tried the St. Ives Apricot scrub and my skin couldn't handle it. According to Paula Begoun's book, this product has lanonlin oil, sodium lauryl sulfate which are known to irritate skin. I can't remember now, but I think it has fragrance too which is why I couldn't use it again. Just wanted to share a different experience of this product.

thanks so much for your response and suggestions! I surely could not use St. Ives if it has fragrance… my face will be so itchy!
I'll definitely go check out the ROC and Neutrogena products you suggested and see which works best.

Reply:Jojoba oil is great at removing make-up – just don't use too much or your skin can feel pretty greasy. It won't absorb more than it needs.
I use st ives apricot scrub (not the acne one), but only occasionally.

I completely relate to you–I have the same problems too! Here are the products my skin can tolerate:

-ROC Hydra Matte moisturizer and ROC Gentle exfoliating cream
-Anything by Cetaphil except for their Oily Skin Cleanser (it dried my skin out badly!). Their Gentle Skin Cleanser is great.
-Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser and Neutrogena Non-Comedogenic Facial Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin
-I use Light Mineral Oil that I get at the local drugstore to remove makeup from my skin
-I use Retin-A cream when the breakouts are superbad! Sometimes I use tea tree oil if a pimple gets really flared up.
-Stuff by Avene and Toleriane work well with me too

Reply:I have super sensitive skin too. Its trial and error, but here is what I can tolerate:
Cleanser: Dove Sensitive Essentials for Sensitive Skin (the non-foaming one)
Moisturizer: Neutrogena for Sensitive Skin
Acne Treatments: Differin Cream
Rosacea: Rosac (helps with acne too)
I also take spironolactone and birth control pills to help my skin.

Reply:My skin is sensitive and I am amazed that skin can be clean with jojoba oil. As far as omega oils to take there is one called Coromega fish oil that is orange flavored and doesnt give you fish gas sold in the health food stores. Kind of expensive but worth it.

Reply:Your skin is like mine. I recommend using nothing but warm water to clean and the occasional mild scrub to exfoliate (maybe once every 1-2 weeks). I also use jojoba (100% pure) oil to remove cleanse and moisturize. I either put a bit on and then rinse it off (if my skin is unclean) or I rub a few drops in and leave it on. It is great at cleansing the pores. I also take omega oils (hempseed or flaxseed oil) which seems to help a lot.

I tried the regimen for about 4 weeks and my face was really dry and flaky and I was like 2-3 cysts in the period. This is what I would do everyday, I wash my face with the aim Gentle Cleansing Bar, then wait 15 minutes to apply Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment. In the morning I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture got to dry my face cause it wasnt itchy at all it was just very dry and flaky. I didnt really notice huge Improvment but I quit because my face was so dry and it sucked waking up every morning with a dry face. I used about one finger length of the acne on the spot every night.

Do you think I should only just fought it and see what happens after 2-4 months or maybe its just the right stuff for me isnt

A finger length of any topical sounds like to much- U only need about a pea size to do your whole face/ forehead. Less is always better when it comes to applying topical to your face. I would stop your regime for a week or two until your skin settles down., and then start back up but only use a pea size of the topical- maybe a gentler soap would help u also- like cetaphil or dove. I always find the more products i use the dryer my skin gets so I usually just stick with one.

I have a quick question. I just started using Neutrogena acne spot treatment 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. I used it for the first two nights ago. I rarely get acne to a head. So I put it on the acne I had and woke up yesterday morning on most of them are white heads! The head looks really as kind of greenish / yellowish. I put it on again last night and woke up this morning with a few of the smaller not have a head more and more feel dehydrated, although still a head. I can feel them, wounding one bit.

My kinda question is whether this means that works? Ive heard people say things sometimes get worse before they get better and / or some medication to put potential breakouts. I do not know exactly when whiteheads are worse than non-white heads, but to me they look worse. I decided to order this product because I had some success with using Proactiv, but it was expensive. I did not want a product with higher levels of benzoyl peroxide, or try. I thought it might also harsh.

I plan to wait it out to see what happens, but does anyone have any answer to this questions.

Has anyone tried another Zapzyt treatment of acne gel works better for pimples and cysts?, Or may work for acne cysts? I use Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser in the morning when I wake up at night before I go to bed. I started using Zapzyt, does anyone know how well it works, if so, tell me your story. My face is clear for the last 3 weeks using only the Neutrogena, but I had to do Doxycycline 100 mg capsules twice a day. If anyone has any information please let me know thank you all !

Reply:Zapzyt ended up making my zits really irritated, red, and peely. It didn't make things go away any faster, and it seemed just way too harsh – but I have pretty sensitive skin. From my experience, OTC spot treatments don't really work that well, but I use them anyway b/c it just makes me feel better putting SOMETHING on them!

Hi everyone Ive pretty much offer the terrible curse of acne . And Ill tell you how . Your skin takes 28 days to get used to what you do to it (washing with a special wash, making a special topical acne treatment, ect) You would not see immidate results and get frusterated and angry with all of your stuff do to your face Im sure . But you must remain patient and try a wash for at least amonth and just see what his resukts . If good then remain regimine if bad then find a new . If you constiantlly changing wash your face and topical creams will almost be confused persay . Your face will not know how to respond to all these harsh treatment you give . I have a good face wash for you . The Body Shop (tea tree system) Now this isnt (bath and body works), the body shop . They toners, washes, soap, tea tree oil ect . they have everythign for blemished skin . And ask them how it works . It is all natural and tea tree helps the skin to heal . So go online or visit your nearest store . Thanks for taking the time to read all this, but I hope it shows you the key results in the end . Place your suscess story and leaves no tips .

Reply:I agree with you. Whenever starting something new, always give it at least a week or 2 before changing. Don't expect results the very next day. When I started on "Solvere" acne kit I tried it for 7 days without seeing dramatic improvement. When I woke up the 8th day I was in complete shock because I saw a 90% improvement. I've been using it for a year with 100% percent efficacy.

hello, I have in recent months on acne treatment cuz nothing is really depressing, yet I still a big white head on the back of my neck just above the hairline and you cannot see them, but the spots are really painful and are consistently showing up now, can someone tell me what this is this place? thankyou

Reply:I doubt the shampoo would affect your face. You are not rubbing it on your face, are you?

Reply:i use to use selson blue for about a month and i noticed i started to get lots of spots in my hair. once i changed to something else they went away, with exception to the odd one here and there.

Definitely try a new shampoo. If you have dry hair or w/e try head and shoulders.

I have what I would call mild acne. I have a few pimples occasionally, but a few pimples at a time around my jaw line maybe twice a month.

Since Im not a big problem with acne, it is necessary to use an acne treatment (salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide), or is keeping my skin pores and clean (like Neutrogena Deep Clean) enough? Deep Clean progress deep into the pores clean to remove dirt, oil and makeup . This is enough to prevent my pimples?

Does anyone here use laser treatment to help with your acne. I did a search on it the other day and there are actually many treatments for both active acne and remove scars. I was thinking on some form of laser treatment for my active acne, but im afraid of side effects and the like. Thank you.

Reply:Yea your opinions sound like stuff i have heard from other people before. It seems as though all the possible negative side effects and the high cost make it not worth trying. I think im just going to try to wait it out and use my regular medicine. Thanks!

Ps i was on dynacin also and it was awsome it did a lot but i became immune to it

Reply:I've had laser treatment and I have to say, what a waste of money!!! I spent about 6 grand hoping to get a clear complexion AND that is not what I got! I still break out and my face is FAR from clear! What helped my acne was the antibiotic, Dynacin, and also Differin gel. I was SOO desperate for clear skin I was willing to risk it and yes I regret it now… *sigh* so much money GONE and for nothing!

I urge people to try other methods before resorting to laser treatment. Think TWICE, don't rush into anything no matter how desperate the situation.

Reply:When I was 18 I had the new acne treatment, "x-ray" and I have radiation damage and became hypothyroid. They simply did not know the outcome of x-ray treatments that strong. I have recieved almost maxium rads x-ray on my face and must limit dental x-rays.

The new laser treatment has not been around long enough to see the long term results. I sure hope it does not do damage like the x-ray treatments did. Damage is not realized for many years later, was in my case.

Remember, if laser treatments are not done correct a person can end up with white streaks on their face.

My dermatologist, a professor at a medical school, told me to choose a doctor who "owned" his own laser machine and did not rent one. Some dermatologist these days will rent a laser machine and then do several patients. In other words his expertise is not that great, does a fast production for the money. It was explained to me the dermatologist that owns his own machine is not doing a quickie for pocket money, but is more dedicated/experienced to the art of using the laser when needed.

I still have not had the laser treatment for Rosacea, still a coward knowing what new treatments can do and have to suffer long term side effects. I am not sure I want to risk white streaks which can never be corrected. I am a senior citizen and wish to let younger people know what can happen. I have paid a heavy price for having a new treatment (x-ray) that was suppose to be the magic bullet at the time for acne.
