Ok, Im going to get one of these two creams to apply in the mornings. Can anyone tell me what are the texture of these topicals? Is a clear gel?

Reply:I totally agree with you kimrick, benzaclin definitely takes away the redness from pimples. I've been using it for about 5 months now, I apply it at night because it tightens my face and dries me out a bit. But it works great and I'm satisfied with the results i've gotten, I reccomend it.

Reply:I've been using Benzaclin for about 2 1/2 months now and I think it's great!!! It takes away ALOT of the redness from those annoying pimples!!

Reply:Benzaclin is the only thing that works for me. The texture is creamy, and it's not clear. It'll dry white if you put too much on. Good Luck!

Reply:My kids prefer the texture of Benzaclin but I just bought Benzamycin because that's what the insurance covers. They also think Benzaclin works better.

Reply:I've used benzamycin and it really dries out your skin super crazy =(… i never found much sucess with it, and it's very expensive…. then again i've never had much sucess with my acne when i went to the doctors, … stupid doctor!!!$!@$$

i hope it works for you, goodluck.

Reply:They are clear when applied…Really made my face taught looking when I would apply it..So you really need a good moisturizer…How are you doing on the Retin-A now?? I am still battling the ugly breakouts…On it for two weeks today…

So I was prescribed Benzaclin for morning, night . differin already tried using both at night, because I derm said to use both at night, but I can not remember whether he told the differin first then putting the Benzaclin, Benzaclin or first and then The differin .: confused:

Reply:I was on Differin, and it really didn't do much for me. I'm on Benzaclin too now, in addition to Retin-A. I seriously wouldnt use both at the same time; I used two acne medications at the same time (but these two were over-the-counter so that might be different from the result of using two perscription ones) and my face was burnt. This was the Christmas weekend, and I went into the city with my skin absolutely just peeling from my face like a bad sunburn. My family was always asking what the heck happened. This is not to say that it would be bad for your skin or with the medications you are using; different medications have different reactions to one another. If they're compatible, I don't think it really matters which one you put on first, but I would say the Differin since I was told Benzaclin was just for spot treatment.

Reply:I have been on Differin for like 2 years now, and my doctor gave me some benzaclin today. She said to use the differin at night (like I have been) and the benzaclin in the morning. I hope it works, I've got a lot of scars too, anyone have a good suggestion to getting rid of those??

Reply:Be careful using those two at the same time. Benzaclin was way too harsh for my skin I can't imagine using differin and Benzaclin at the same time. I would recommend just using the differin by itself at night till you get used to it.

Reply:I don't know. That's the annoying thing about many dermatologists, I think (and other docs too!!) that they really do rush and spend so little time with you (not their fault though, I guess). You should definitely call your dermatologist, someone there should be able to answer your questions. Alternatively, you could ask the pharmacist. But I would definitely try the dermatologist first.

Best of luck– Remember, you're paying good money for those visits and those prescriptions, you deserve to get the best out of them!

Ive tried antibiotic prescribing (work great for a while then I was immune) and Benzaclin and differentiation as topicals – Benzaclin was about as effective as Proactiv and Differentiated hated.

i i m not sure I have another recipe to try topical?

Do you have a favorite over the counter topical use? Now I use green tea (such as a toner), tea tree oil, lotion Proactiv . as well as taking zinc and vitamin B5 (recentlyy started all this, so well see if it works for me!) I “m this gives a few months before I go on accutane if it doesnt work.

[This message was edited by Guy (edited 03/09/2003).]

Reply:guy I am not sure if you are male or female but I have found that Proactiv helps my skin look clear (remember I don't have acne- just a few breakouts here and there so it really does work, i am complaining about a few breakouts maybe once every few weeks) however, i also notice that it is not as effective right before i get my period- which is when your hormonal levels bounce around more so you are more prone to breakouts. But it works so well afterwords that i dont mind.
And you are right- you keep relying on Proactiv because you remember hoe well it worked in the beginning. I think I will switch back to Neutrogena for a few weeks and then come back to Proactiv and see if that helps jumpstart my skin!

Reply:Greetings All!

I also use Bezamycin and it works pretty well…. However, I can only use this at night because it is extremely drying but in the morning I wash with Dove Soap(the green one which states "hypo-allergenic" on the package) and I use Lavender floral water after that as a toner, as I was reading comments and questions about toners……..Lavender water really controls the oil and shininess and I have oily skin and sometimes I mix it with a squirt of Rose floral water, it is really good at softening the skin and smoothing out scars and for the ladies, the makeup goes on so smoothly after and for the guys, I know the scent of rose is not appealing but orange floral water is also really good. So I just wanted to put my two sense into this forum and these floral waters are natural so you don't have to worry about dry skin and stuff and at nighttime just wash with dove soap, the one I mentioned above is a MUST for those using benzymacin , clindoxil, and other products containing benzoyl peroxide and resume with the medication. But Lavender water is a MUST; it cuts downs the redness, reduces oiliness and shine, makes the skin soft and has a relaxing aroma. Those of you with dry skin and are prone to acne, ditto exept use rose water or both. Best of Luck!

                      Take Care

Reply:After i hgave up on proactiv I honestly just went and bought a benzoyl peroxide cleanser, which is what proactiv has…..I use panoxyl 5…and a benzoyl peroxide lotion. But the best product that has helped is ACNE SPOT dry. U buy it on the net. It really helps pimples go away quick. But i also use retin-a on my problem areas only…like my chin and between my eyes. But i also used retin a while i was on proactiv, i used it instead of the lotion. After i stopped using proactiv, I found my face was less dry and my breakouts were no different. But they were kept under better control by using the Acne spot dry. Honestly what i would do, is if you feel proactiv does help alot, which means u like benzoyl peroxide products, then just buy some from your local drug store, trust me they work as good or better and much cheaper. I mean if you do not feel proactiv is working that great for you. Sometimes i would be clear on it and sometimes i would breakout bad. So it was nothing special, it just seems to make u dependent, because u constantly remember how good it worked when you first tried it. You keep thinking it works that well, when really it does not. the acne spot dry costs about 29.00 dollars or so, and lasts about 2 months or so depending on how many breakouts you get. its just so dependable thats why i like it. but alone it wont work. it kills the spots u have.

I have basically given up on these treatments, i am taking accutane now, but I still keep the benzoyl peroxide and acne spot dry around just in case and use them on the areas i breakout still on accutane.

But good luck hope u find something that works for you, i just think proactiv is way to expensive for what it is…

R

Reply:guy
I also use Proactiv and have been using it since January, what do you use now if you noticed it stopped being as effective?

I used to use Neutrogena Oil Free Cream Cleanser and it was wonderful, then it kind of stopped being as good, so i decided to try Proactiv. I notice that if I miss using it one day i mess up my skin the next day, so i am nervous that it will stop working one day as well.

   PLease let me know

Reply:I used both ProActiv and Benzaclyn. I like the Benzaclyn in the beginning b/c it gave me great results but it didn't last long. Same w/ the ProActiv. This may not be the case w/ you though. Give it a shot for a bit and see if it gives you positive results.

I currently am washing w/ the Deep Cleansing Wash from ProActiv (It has Salicyclic Acid in it). I use that and Neutrogena On The Spot Treatment b/c it has bp in it but only 2.5% and it's much less irritating than the Benzaclyn which is 5% BP and higher.

Reply:is it not good to use a toner too often?

which facial cleanser/toner would you recommend [as proactiv replacements] ?

thanks for the help!

Reply:If you are not having success using proactiv, i would recommend quitting. i used it for 2 years and was somewhat addicted in that, when i first started it worked so well then was not so helpful after a few months which is the reason i looked for other treatments. I was happy to finally get off of it. If I was you i would just stop the proactiv and if you like using a benzoyl peroxide cleanser, i would say just buy one, i have noticed proactiv to be no better. i would also say not to use the toner twice a day, if you are gonna use proactiv twice a day like i did, i would not use it at night, i found it caused more dryness and irritation. Goodluck though

Reply:i am assuming you are only using the proactive cleanser and toner and not using the lotion? that's what i would do…cleanser, toner, benzaclin. good luck!

Reply:Proactiv then Benzaclin then Minocycline?

thanks!

Reply:Yes, if you're applying two creams before you go to sleep (proactiv and benzaclin?) wait 30 mins to allow the product to be absorbed into the skin, then apply the second product.

How dry Benzaclin / clindamycin-benzoyl peroxide in contrast to standard over the counter benzoyl peroxide as Clearasil or Neutrogena? More dry? Less dry? More dry?

Im considering using, but I really do not want to deal with extremely dry skin.

101 Home Uses Of Hydrogen Peroxide.
Reply:I only used it for a week, but it dried out my skin like nothing I've ever used before (and I've used Cleocin, 10% Benzoyl Peroxide, and either Retin-A or Differin all at the same time and didn't have problems). I used the one with 3% clindamyacin, which has to be kept refrigerated (another pain). Maybe the 1% one wouldn't be so bad.

Acne Prone, 5 Steps To Clear Skin Starting From Within
Reply:Benzaclin uses a 5% concentration of BP and 1% concentration of Clidamycin. Some OTC stuff uses concentrations as high as 10%. I think people make the mistake of using a high concentration on thier whole face. THis WILL dry your skin out and probably cause you to break out more bc of the stress on your face.

That being said, I used Benzaclin for a while and if you use only a thin layer it really is not that bad. I used Cetaphil lotion which worked fine with the dryness. If you have moderate acne, BP does help.
I applied Benzaclin twice on a pimple last night and I woke up this morning with redness around the pimple area. Anyone experiences it also? Will the redness go away?

You might have put too much on. Benzaclin is pretty strong and it can cause drying if you apply too much. I made that mistake.

It really is true that you should put a pea size amount on your fingertip and apply all over your face not just the affected area.

Reply:I costs me $25 dollars for the little jar and I have to put it on my entire face, back and chest!! It's working though, so its worth it, and it not that drying for me, I find exfoliating every few days keeps me from being flaky. I manage to make it last a month an a half (I only use it all over at night, and spot treat during the day)

Reply:you're supposed to use just a thin layer. it is very drying, and in my experience the dryness never decreases, so use it sparingly.

Reply:i'm supposed to put it on my whole face so i guess its kind of hard to use a just a little.

Reply:dont use a lot, I used a small amount n it dried my face like a mofo. Trust me, even a lil will dry out ur skin, i high recommend u stop if it gains painful, like it did for me, b/c ur skin will chap, even when u try to eat. Not a very fun experience, n it cost 15 bucks, luckily I had insurance. Guh, stuff we do to get rid of pimples, why cant girls overlook pimples so i dont have to do this **** anymore ;-(
