Reply:Ortho Tri-cyclen has really cleared up my face. I only breakout once a month, sometimes not even then, around the PMS time. It has not helped my cramps.

Daisy – how many months did it take to clear on Ortho Tri-cyclen?

Reply:Yes, you will have to find the one that is right for you, because everyone is different, but I will say that in my experience, Yasmin made my skin much worse and Zovia cleared it up completely in 4 months. I get no cramps, but I do get a PMS attitude for a day or 2 ans a headache the first day of my period. Other than that, Zovia has been my cure.

Reply:well different methods affect people differently. i would strongly advise you not to ever get the shot because it causes major weight gain! the pill can cause some but the only one i have found to not make you gain weight and can actually promote some weight loss is yasmin! so far i havent had any side effects! **good luck**

Reply:It's not easy to recommend the right bc pill as they affect everyone a bit differently. But I can say that Allese caused terrible cystic acne and I stopped taking it in less than a month.
The only thing I have not tried is Accutane. But I did my research and asked my derm. to let me try spironolactone. I was absolutely shocked. When I started taking, I thought here we go, another pill. “To my surprise, I cleaned up. I am a 31 year old woman who sustained moderate cystic acne has had since the age of 20 or so. Ive never felt better about my skin. I still get a small blemish or two when PMS hits, but very acceptable. Im in no rush to the mirror when I wake in the morning my skin to cover. I felt nothing but freedom. I am currently 100mg per day. If youve tried everything else out there frusterated and feel you can do some research and asking for this one. By the way it is cheap. If no insurance is only $ 20 per month and the insurance . its what your copay is low .

Just wanted to share!
Mommaoftwinsplus1!

Reply:Thanks for posting, I just started Spiro 50mg twice a day, its been a week and I am actually getting more pimples (my face looks even worse than before, getting pimples where I didn't before), I don't really notice oil decrease either. Did you face get worse during the first two weeks before you started to see improvement? Thanks!

Reply:Actually I own two copies of that book! One I gave to the endo and one I may give to the derm. I know, it's a great book. I just don't know if that would be presumptuous of me. I think she should be on at least 75 mgs. Her BP is kind of low to begin with so maybe they are afraid of it going too low. Part of me thinks we should wait and see how she does on the low dose.

Yea that's probably a good idea. Yes it is a really great book!! The book even says that sometimes 75mgs will do the trick. So I hope it does!!

Reply:No that is not enough! Get this book please! The hormonally vulnerable woman by Geoffrey Redmond

It talks about spiro in there! and birth control pills just trust me it's a great book! My dr. was trying to tell me about the drug and he was amazed by how much I already knew about it. For acne and hair you nedd 100mgs to 200mgs per day. So that is not at all enough. Maybe you should switch derm dr.'s? Idk. But please check this book out it's worth it! Page 302 (in the hard book) is where they talk about how much is needed. Hope this helps!

Well, I think a lower dose can work if you combine it with diet and other supplements like the zinc, saw palmetto and nettle that also block androgens. My skin isn't oily at all anymore and I'm only taking 50 mgs. I was prescribed 200, but the dehydration was killing me at just 100mgs. So I have to cut the 100mg pills in half. Sometimes I quarter them too so I can take 75mgs. But the more you take, the more you block.

My skin wasn't very oily anymore after several months on low carb diet and supplements before I was prescribed spiro.

Reply:Well, good luck. I am sure you will do well. I may need to enlighten our doctor cause he only prescribed 25 mgs. I jus don't think that's enough.

Hi guy,
I just got back from the derm dr. and he part me on 100mgs. I only take one pill a day. I am also getting more predinose, not sure about the dose though it was hard to read, he said he was going to wing me off of it. I also have to cut down to one doxycycl a day be/c of the side effects iit gives me. Oh and I'm not sure if you knew or not but I also changed my birth control pill to yasmin and have been on it for a week now.

Reply:Mommaoftwinsplus1,

I want to thank you for sharing!! I am on doxycycl right now and tomorrow i go to the derm and start taking spiro. We have already talked about it. I don't have insurance so for me this is perfect!! I just really hope it works!

Reply:Wow, I am SO excited to try this! I have a physical set up for a few weeks from now and i'm going to be sure to bring this name with me! I hope it works, i'm desperate!

Reply:I'm glad it is working for ya

BTW, do u have hirsutism (excess body hair)? I do, but not sure if Yasmin is doing the trick; it has 25 mg spiro. But I am oily all the time

Just make sure u are drinking lots of water.

Reply:unfortunately you have to stay on spiro to keep the results. What spiro does is block the hormones that cause acne. My derm said that it is safe to stay on for a very long period of time. I am just glad that I have found relief.

guy

Reply:I'm just wondering how long it is ok to stay on Spiro, considering what it does to one's potassium levels. ALso, once u are off does ur acne go back to normal?

Reply:Skimom,
I have not tried Yasmin. However I have tried ortho trycycline (spelling?). That bcp did not have any effect on my acne. I started noticing improvement after about 2-3 weeks on spironolactone. I am still amazed with the results!

Mommaoftwinsplus1

Reply:Mommaoftwinsplus1 here….to answer your questions about taking while trying to get pregnant…well my doctor knows that I am DONE having kiddos, so the effects of this drug to a fetus was never really discussed. I am on a low dose bcp(ortho-novum 1/35) I am on those to helpl regulate my periods. I did not notice the pill helping my acne. I started the pill about 8 months before taking spiro. The spiro is what worked for me. My tubes are tied, so no risk on pregnancy. I have had no side effects on this med, and it is cheap. Like I said I have tried a long list of "cures" and nothing has worked with this success.

Now my routine is so simple…
AM Dove soap (no moisturizer, I am an oily skinned gal)
Makeup

PM Dove Soap and maybe a little queen helen mint julep mask. Vaseline
around my eyes. Simple as that.

I still enjoy lots of dairy products, fats, sugar, alcohol and I try to drink lots of water, but I really prefer Diet Coke!:)

Mommaoftwinsplus1

What do you think of Yasmin? Have you ever tried that? Also, how long before you started to clear on spiro? Your list of what you eat is quite exciting also. My daughter has been on a strict diet for the past several months and got no clearing.

Momma – I am so happy for you!!! Thank you for this post because this is a very viable solution for many girls/women. Our derm just prescribed yasmin and spiro (25 mg to be added in one month if Yasmin doesn't work) for my daughter. He is being conservative. I suppose if the Yasmin works for her then that would be good on its own. She has also tried all of those things including Accutane and nothing has worked long-term. Are you taking a bcp also?

Reply:guy,

I am glad you are clear. I have a question though: did they mention anything about pregnancy with this? When I was given it – and I fully admit, I didn't take it at all as prescribed, I think I took it for three days or two weeks or something – anyway, I have not had kids yet and want them so badly…when the Dr. gave Spiro. to me several years ago before I was married, she said since it messes with your hormones it could mess with the baby boy's genitalia? Sorry, no other way to put it. She must have scared me into not taking it but I remember leaving her office very confused.

So I'm curious – did the Dr. give you any info along these lines? I really haven't heard too much of it since then and haven't encountered much on the web.

thanks, guy

I am not the momma but you shouldn't get pregnant when you are taking this. Spiro is just a testosterone blocker. It used to be used for high blood pressure but it has stopped being used for that when the testosterone blocking properties were discovered. It won't affect your future child-bearing but you should use adequate protection while on it.

Reply:guy,

Ok, I got some weird chest acne. Yes, I know it because my acne dermatologist confirmed. I am a man, no pill Will affect me.

The acne covers basically all of my nipples at the bottom of my neck. They are not whiteheads or blackheads, or cysts. They are quite small and they are just red. They are almost completely inflamed. But it is quite thick and is not serious, but it is moderate.

Im now Clyndamicin twice a day (anti-biotic) and 0.1% Cream Differn. Ive tried using Retin-A 0.1% and 0.1% Differn, but both just made it red and raw. Is there anything that could help?

Accutane is not an option. Ive heard that Nutrogena a kind of body wash, but Ive seen 2-3 different kinds. What should I get? Or is there something else you would recommend?

Reply:I have never had severe chest or back acne. I actually only have break outs when I use certain shampoos or conditioners. You may want to look into the types of hair products you are using. Prolonged use of Pantene conditioner does it to me everytime!

I like the Neutrogena clean and clear body wash. This helped control the breakouts but after I stopped using Pantene (regularly) I stopped breaking out. I actually haven't had a problem since. I have also read on this board that Head and Shoulders works. I'm not sure if it does or not as I have tried it but it usually irritates my skin after a couple of uses. I have heard it said that all you have to do is wash your hair with it and the residue that runs over your chest and back will clear you up. I'm not sure if you clear up because of the ingredients in the Head and Shoulders or if the old product you were using was the culprit and since you quit using it you quit breaking out.

Hope this helps a little!

Good luck

Reply:I've had the exact same problem as you. I don't really know what cleared it up but it somehow went away. I've been using Neutrogena's Body Clear Body Scrub and it's seem to have helped a little, but it's still there. Of course it took me at least a couple weeks to see any real results.

I've been pretty desperate just to get rid of it, I'd try anything

I just went to the doctor to try a number of Yasmin for my skin, but she would put me not to. She said (in her opinion) she thought that the success rate of Yasmin was not as good as Dianet (which I have before and it didnt work for me), or Marvelon . she has told me there, (all birth control pill).

I Marvelon had not heard of before and wondered if anyone has been, nor heard a good / bad press about? Ive researched on the net and didnt get many results, the only thing I found very interesting was that Yasmin and Marvelon are compared and have quite a similar effect on acne. Can anyone shed some light on this Marvelon?

Thanks xx

Reply:I'm on Desogen, U.S. version of Marvelon. My skin has definitely improved. But my appetite is a little out of control. I've been fighting it though and haven't gained weight.

Reply:I am thinking of switching to Marvelon. I took Dianette (Diane 35) until a year ago and now my acne is back. Has anyone had any weight gain on Marvelon? One of the reasons I quite Dianette is because I was gaining loads of weight.

Reply:Thanks for clearing some of that up for me…('scuse the pun!)

Well I have been taking Marvelon for a week now and already I've noticed a difference in my skin. It looks like its clearing up really quickly…of course it may not be due to the Marvelon but if it is then fingers crossed this will continue!! (knowing my luck it probably wont tho!!) I'll keep you all posted anyway of any improvements or non-improvements! so far i'm a very happy bunny as nothing has worked for me ever apart from roaccutane.

Very interesting about what Camden said too.

Reply:I was on marvelon for three years before the birth of my daughter and for another year after, for the sole purpose of birth control. I can tell you however that I don't recall any acne problems. When I switched to depo provera I noticed acne within a couple of months and thought this new birth control was causing it. Went back on marvelon and acne cleared up so I'm assuming that it wasn't the depo causing the acne, rather the marvelon clearing it up!

Reply:Marvelon is the same as orthocept and desogen. Try doing a search on orthocept. I have been on this for a good 3-4 months and think it works well; however, i have been doing clearlight also so that may be contributing. I tolerate this pill well, and it works the best on regulating my menses. Good luck

Reply:never heard of marvelon, but i was on yasmin for quite a while. I had very very bad acne when i was a bit younger and yasmin does help quite a lot.giv it time to kick in.
They were quite large, painful, some of them under the skin over a number of them. I had very bad acne on my shoulders again. Im almost one year in the Diane 35 and I saw amazing results. At first I was discouraged because six months had passed and I still had pimples, then suddenly last night I was almost clear. I still get one or two small pimples a month, but they are clearly in one to two days and do not leave marks. The Diane has not helped me with my red marks from previous breakouts though and I am currently looking for laser treatment. And my shoulders are too obvious, I can finally wear tank tops! I urge anyone who suspects they also hormonal acne to speak with their doctor.

Expecting Mother’s Guide to Water Births
Reply:Hi Moviechick,

when you say you lost a lot of hair going off of it…what exactly do you mean? I have been on it for 2 1/2 years and want to come off too, not for any particular reason…it has been great for me but I do think it has given me some nasty moods lately! I know shedding is common when you quit the pill, but I don't want thin hair!
Thanks,
Julia

How to Start a Pest Control Business
Reply:The side effects i got from diane 35 were heavy discharge, really bad mood swings, crying spells, weight gain.. i had to eat like a rabbit if I didnt want to gain anything. I lost a lot of hair going off of it too but I think that's normal for any pill.

7 Secrets To Natural Childbirth
Reply:MovieChick, I am curious to know what kind os side effects you were getting from Diane 35?

Take Control of Your Pain
Reply:I'm 22 and am on diane 35 right now and have yet to see results (starting my 3rd month). Like others, I'm really hoping that this will work as I've been on roaccutane three times and they still came back! I know that it gets worse before it gets better, and avoid looking in the mirror (sort of in denial but it helps). Thanks for giving me some reassurance that it may work. Cheers.

Brain Power Control
Reply:I had great success with diane 35 also but I went off of it 4 months ago. My cystic acne hasn't returned. I think hormonal acne can be fixed with a good diet. I've eliminated all the bad dairy except organic .. actually, most of everything I eat these days is organic. I drink only water and sometimes oj and I drink 2 cups of a kefir a day which I read is suppose to balance out hormones. I don't drink the store bought kind.. i make my own. I also dry brush my body and face 2x a day to remove toxins and it is helping big time. I just don't want to rely on the pill for the rest of my life besides, I was getting some side effects from it.

Professional Barcode Label Activex Control
Reply:diane-35 should be a highly effective drug agains acne.i definetly dont think guys should go on it because you would get some major breast development….well unless they wanna be a girl cause this is a transexual drug.spiro is a main transexual drug but it is combined with fairly large doses of estrogen to get feminin results.also when taking diane it is good to take an asprin a day to prevent blood clots….girls.these drugs are sure effective against acne though.if your acne is severe you might want to give accutane a shot because some people have had long term resession of their acne after one course.i had 2 courses and it didnt work for me…..was a major downer in my life cause i thought accutane would clear my acne for good.
I stayed on it for a while or so to see if it would go away and it didn't. Now I am back on Ortho and my face is totally clear.

How long did it take to work for you? I dont break out that badly(never have) But when I lost my period and then got it back 6 months later I broke out all over my jawline, hairline and temples and it was horrible because they were just a bunch of bumps. Im on the 2nd cycle of the birth control(2nd month) and I have only gotten a few large pimples before my period. Could this be a sign that its gonna completely clear? How long should one give it to completely clear their skin?

Thanx
I was thinking on geting on the pill because a couple of my co-workers claimed it will work miracles for my skin and my skin will be flawless. But like care berry said I don't know if they are worth the risk because there are alot of side effects that come with the pill and that scares me! Maybe I will try to drink more water and eat healthier and see if that works!

How to Start a Pest Control Business
Reply:I've been on birth control for a few years now, and although my acne is hormonal, BC hasn't really changed the severity of my breakouts. I still break out right before my period.
If you're sexually active, I'd recommend going on the pill regardless of the results you'd like to see with your acne.

Quick & Easy Acne Elimination
Reply:I guess birth control pills only fix acne for certain people. Why would you want to risk all the effects from the pill though? Why not go the more natural approach?

I don't have acne, just an occasional pimple or two when I am stressed. Now, I told you that to tell you this. For other reasons, my hormones were really off (anxiety). I went to see a naturapath 2 months ago and got my hormones tested. They were way off, which is not surprising. A lot of people have this problem in this day and age. But anyways, along with changing my diet, one of the things that he gave me to use was natural progesterone. Not any birth control pills, which are just man-made hormones. I am absolutely amazed by the progesterone. My skin looks awsome, I don't get cramps at all during my period now, my anxiety is gone, and even my chiropractor noticed a difference in the way things finally stay where they are adjusted. When hormones are off balance, it can do tons of physical stuff to your body. And I only have been using it for 5 days! What birth control pill can do that? LOL. I can't wait to see what else it will do….

The Bad Breath Report: The Quick & Easy Cure For Bad Breath!
Reply:I have hormonal acne, and I have been taking bcp's for close to 5 months now. At first I did not notice a change in my acne, in fact it got worse for about 3 weeks (around the end of my first month). Now this past month my face has been for the most part clear. Hopefully as time rolls on and as I get even more adjusted to it my face will clear up even more.

I'm definitely not an expert on bcp's but I do think that if you have hormonal acne like I did, then they will most likey help your situation since the pills give you a more steady balance of the hormones. My face would be clear for 3 weeks, then the week before my period I would break out like crazy.

Btw, I take Loestrin 24fe. Hopefully this helps!
