I on the Diane-35 for a few years. The studies focused on the health of Dianes risk (ie the formation of blood clots), Im seriously considering going off of this BCP. I love this stuff . I think its the only thing my skin is gone . although I am not 100% sure. In any case, I went to the Diane-35 for about a year and half ago to take a break from. To my dismay hard, I broke terribly alone and when I returned to my acne dimish done it again (although in the past, when Diane-35 had been used in combination with minocycline, and when I went off of the Mino. Every time here, my acne returned. In the last 8 months or so, I weaned myself off the antibiotics and have clear skin, so my acne clearing may be due to age and other factors). In any case, I have tried everything out there . Accutane twice, and any other medication in the Sun I have not decided 100% that I will leave these BCP, but when I do, what are some things I can do to the breakout period (assuming it happens) to minimize? I am now 100% clear, but Im afraid of going off Diane-35 will cause me to break out. Do you think my derm would allow me to re-take Accutane as a measure against the occurrence of a possible breakthrough even if I am clearly at the moment?

Anyone in similar situations? What have you done? Please help!

Good idea…I will think about doing this in the future. I have had my hormone levels checked in the past, and they were always "normal", but I can't help thinking that the GP's may be missing something. I have always had a problem with irregular periods… maybe there is somethign else there. In the meantime, I will keep my fingers crossed that I don't encounter any health problems and that I will someday get through this. I, too, would like to start a family someday, and I don't want acne to be a concern AT ALL!

From what I have been told and have read lately, the risk of blood clots for users of Diane-35 (as I think it is a 3rd generation BCP) is at a risk of 4 to 8 times higher than users of other birth control pills. You can check the internet or ask your doc. Health Canada has issued a warning about this recently, and my doctor brought it to my attention at my last visit (the increased risks of this particular birth control pill). I am torn as to what to do.

You could try taking Evening Primrose Oil supplements. This may help to regulate hormones a little. The suggested dosage is 1g 3x a day (one with each meal). However, this doesn't work for everyone.

I'm not sure if there's any sure-fire way to ward off that type of outbreak, unfortunately! Good luck!

Also, they say that it is best to use a straw so you don't get as much on your teeth. and not to eat anything crunchy or brush your teeth for like an hour or so after ward. I did this.

Any way, I tink it's worth it, but that's just my opinion…………….

for a long time to see I have tons of blackheads on my nose (while Diane also). they are still on my nose, whatever. So I read a little about Yasmin, a very similar BCP. it is too similar? Is it the same?

I have a few boxes left to Diana, but I was wondering before I go back on it, if I should try Yasmin instead? It seems expensive, right? Do you think it would clear my blackheads better than Diane? Or what should I do? I do not get whiteheads or cysts, but that b / c Diane still in my system even though I was off for 2 + months?

wow *crosses fingers* that would be four months of me not getting whiteheads or cysts? Well, I think I did break out a tad at first, but that was awhile ago.

I had no clue that blackheads weren't horomonal. I've tried different creams, such as differin (didn't work) and currently I'm using Retin A….hasn't helped yet. is Paula's Choice otc? Or how would I go about getting it? I'd love to try it b/c just my nose is lierally covered in blackheads. If people get too close to me, it looks disgusting. Could be worse, I know, but stil……

I've never heard of Yasmin helping with blackheads. The types of acne that is usually hormonal are cysts and whiteheads, especially around the mouth/chin/jaw area. This is where BCPs really make a difference. Blackheads are very minor and are usually due to clogged pores, not hormones.

Have you tried a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) product like Paula's Choice? These help tremendously with blackheads because they penetrate and clean out the pores.

Consider yourself lucky that you were able to get off of Diane-35 for 2+ months and have not had a breakout! It could be that the hormones are still lingering in your system. Give it 3 months. If you are still clear then, then I think it will be time for you to celebrate with assurance!!

The thing is that I will try to get pregnant and therefore I have to come off the pill. I was wondering if you took Diane 35 or something similar for the control of your cystic acne, how long after you stopped using them have come back? Immediately? A while? Did your acne come back to the strength you had before . weaker or stronger?

Does nobody knows anything about the BCS . is it really better than Diane?

I think Diane is no longer as effective as it was for me when I initialy went on, so I think of trying this. Any info would be much appreciated

OH the news also said that supposedly has fewer side effects than Diane . Diane I was already 3 years and have not really suffered no major side effects, but thought Id mention.

I went to an endocrinologist today more than androgens. He was very nice and asked if I would like to try Spiro or metformin. We decided to first start since the Metformin helps to regulate blood sugar levels and therefore androgens. I told him I just started 6 weeks ago Diane35 and he said if I did not start to see improvements by the end of the 2 months I have to stop, I was very surprised when he said that because I thought it would be longer then take 6-8 weeks to work for acne and facial hair, but according to him should Diane do not lead to a first break or make anything worse or magically improve once! Anyway, I have a recipe for Met for three months and if I do not see improvements in January he will prescribe Spiro. He thinks that Spiro is much better with fewer side effects than Diane .

I was just wondering what your opinions / experiences about the various medications I mentioned above . I am a bit confused at the moment .

I was wondering if I should give Diane at least 4 months because I did not really feel like Diane two months is a fair trial . guess what?

I'm seriously thinking about spiro now that I know someone who will prescribe it… Diane doesn't seem to be doing much at the moment… there isn't even any oil change… still the same amount
