Home Remedies for Acne

Most of over the counter acne treatments are not only much more costly than common home items, but they might not always give a better result. With that in mind, I list several home remedies that can do wonders on clearing acne.

Baking soda: can be used as a great scrub to exfoliate, removing dead skin, and clog pores. Just mix a small amount of baking soda with water to make a paste. Gently massage the paste on your skin for ten to fifteen seconds. Then rinse the baking soda off, and pat your face with a clean towel.

Beverage Vinegar: it kills bacteria, balance your skin’s pH, and absorb extra oil on your skin. Apply diluted vinegar (eight parts water to one part vinegar) directly to your skin with a cotton ball, and leave it on.

Lemon or lime juice is rich in acid acid, and can exfoliate your skin and reduce skin spots. You can either use the lemon skin to massage your face or mix the juice with rose water before application on your face. Do this for 30 minutes daily and you should be able to see a marked improvement.

Egg Whites: rich in protein, can be used as a mask to heal and nourish skin, also absorb excess oil from your skin. Crack an egg, removing the yellow part so that simply the egg whites are left. Beat it, and apply them on your face. Let it sit for fifteen minutes, and then rinse it off.

Oatmeal: can absorb unwanted oil and draw out impurities which reside deep in your skin. Cook several plain oatmeal like you would be for consumption. Let it cool off, and rub it over your clean skin. Let it sit for a while, like a mask, and then rinse off. If you do this on a regular basis, you should start noticing results.

Tea Tree Oil: You can pick it up at most drugstores or supermarkets. You can apply it directly on the skin spots to kill bacteria, or, you may dilute it with another oil (such as jojoba oil), over your entire face. Tea tree gel can be easier to apply than the oil, and they aren’t quite as strong as straight tea tree oil and do not need to be diluted.

Aloe Vera: can prevent scaring, fade marks and help to heal skin spots. Pick a fresh Aloe Vera plant and rub its juice all over the affected area. Let it dry before going to bed, have it washed off in the morning.

Orange Peels: contains citric acid which actively kills bacteria. Grind peels of oranges into paste and put it on the areas affected for 10 minutes. You can add a bit of water if the paste is too thick. Do this twice a day for optimal results.

Almond Powder: it is rich in vitamin E, which is good for skin’s longevity and a cure to acne-prone skin. Mix almond powder with water to form a paste, and then put it on the affected skin. Allow it to dry for about half an hour and later wash it off.

Cinnamon and Lemon Juice: Grind a cinnamon finely and then mix with a teaspoon of lemon juice. Put on the concerned patches of skin and leave it for about 10 minutes before washing off. Do this at least two times a day.

Honey and Cinnamon: make a paste of three tablespoons of pure honey and one of cinnamon powder and apply to the affected skin before bed. Next morning, wash it off with warm water. Apply this home remedy continuously for two weeks to see results.

Sandalwood and Turmeric Powder: Sandalwood was commonly used by herbalists to treat various skin problems and diseases during ancient times. Turmeric acts as anti-inflammatory agent for the skin and helps in reducing infections. Mix a half teaspoon of sandalwood along with turmeric powder and add some small quantity of water. Apply the mix to the affected skin.

Garlic: Apply ground or pounded garlic on your face 2 times daily. It would work wonders on your acne.

Cucumber: often used in topical applications because of its top-notch cooling effect, the cleansing properties which clears and soften the skin, and the sulfur content that eliminates acne. Blend a cucumber into paste and then apply to the affected area. It can be left there for about 30 minutes to an hour after which it should be washed away.

Yogurt: The bacterial content of yogurt kills harmful bacteria off the skin. Apply a non-fat yogurt as a face mask twice a week for best results.

Green Tea: improves the immune system of the body and rejuvenate dying skin cells. By just drinking at least three cups of decaffeinated green tea every day, you’ll be on your way to a healthy body, not just the skin. You can apply it topically too by rubbing the tea bag on the acne.

You now have an idea of several basic home items you can use on your skin. Disease of the skin has been shown many times to be really closely affected by the biological process system, so keeping your entire biological process system working as smooth as possible can help reduce acne.

Common Ingredients in Acne Remedy

Many acne remedy treatments are available and work in different ways to clear acne. Some of the medication ingredients target certain areas of the acne while others kill the bacteria that can clog the hair follicle. Some acne medicine offer short term relief while others give you long-term relief. There are some side effects that come with a few ingredients. Most go away with use. The most common ingredients in acne medicines are the six listed below.

Alcohol and Acetone

These two ingredients are the main ones used in many acne products especially cleansers. They work great in removing oil and dirt from the skin. Unfortunately, they can cause the skin to burn or sting. Some dermatologists will tell you not to use products with this in it if you have severe acne.

Benzoyl Peroxide

This is one of the most effective ingredients in acne remedy. It kills bacteria and also removes dead skin cells. Most acne medicine have about 2.5 percent of it but can reach as high as 10 percent, depend on how severe the acne is. It has drying and peeling effect which helps the skin renewal, and may cause redness and swelling of the area.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid reduces the formation of blackheads, whiteheads and can also be used for other skin conditions like psoriasis, dandruff, corns, etc. It works to dissolve the breakouts by removing the dead skin cells stuck inside the hair follicle and prevents clogged pores. The first few days of use might bring on mild redness and stinging. A two percent mixture is all that is necessary. A stronger mixture might be needed if the acne is severe.

Antibiotics

Some acne products have antibiotics in it to kill the bacteria, stop the spread of the acne, and prevent scars. The antibiotic acne remedy can come in oral form or tropical creams and ointments. They have a regular schedule of use and must be used within a certain period of time. Natural Tea Tree oil is a natural acne remedy to use in place of the antibiotics.

Sulfur

Sulfur is almost never used in acne remedy without something to accompany it. Sulfur is good for acne reduction, removing excess oil, and peeling the dead skin cells. It helps to dry the skin and can cause it to be sore especially at the beginning of treatment. If the problems continue, the sulfur must be stopped until the side effects go away. A lower dose might be used.

Isotretinoin

This acne remedy ingredient helps to lower oil and sebum production, sooth irritation and inflammation. The pores will also be unclogged and dead skin cells removed. Isotretinoin can cause scaling and dryness especially around the lip area.
