Well I was on Proactiv thing and I was stopped. I prefer to break, and I got a cyst and Deal. Just before I started I went to the derm and she prescribed 3 things. differn gel clindamcyin and minocycline. I just differn the gel and my face feels a little tight applied. I read the other stuff and cllindamcyin, has warned that some people may die from this stuff! im bugging out, my stomach is now just looking for the box was in pain and angry. also says I can give you bloddy stools and stuff like that. Right now it feels like I shouldnt have even begun to differn gel. F say, and just wash with water every day because I could die from this stuff. The pill has some serious side effects such as well.

I dont know what to do. Why would anyone make or sell this stuff that you can do to people. im pretty much sick literally tying even thinking about what to do. my thoughts go back and forth. I cannot believe I can die from this.

please help me out. She differn prescrbed night that ice in the morning and two pills a day with food.what should I do?

Reply:Clindynamcin (sp) is just an antibiotic. Your stomach is sorta upset due to the antibiotic. I think it has to do with killing of some of the good bacteria. Eat some yogurt and you'll be fine.

Yea, I am on my 4th week of Proactiv and I am getting cysts again. Time to go to a derm for my first time.

Reply:Benzoyl peroxide is an anti-bacterial and the bacteria-"P. acnes"-the zit bacteria can develop a resistance to it (similar to antibiotics). No, it does not happen to everyone, but that is why sometimes people will complain about how it will work great for a while and then suddenly more breakouts again. It's almost as if you need to cycle BPO.

Reply:well i have been in pa for like almost a month now. I was on proactiv for just a tad over 2 months. i tried it before and the same thing happened. it worked and then just stopped. when i went to the derm she sort of just, hmm, i didnt like her much put it that way. she rushed really quick like lierally 1 mintue. she prescribed like to wash with dove, before applying that, and i told her it made my skin try and she just ignored that. She didnt explain to me about anything, when i asked. she is just like this will work better then proactiv.

i guess im just scared of the side affects. right now i just cant see myself taking that stuff, so im just using the differn at night and that is all. in the morning just wash and night with proactiv cleanser cuase that is gentle. some part of that system is not working, maybe the benz treatment

Reply:nj,

How long were you on the PA before you decided to stop? I don't recall that you were on it very long.

Firstly, you need to trust the derm that prescribed your medication. As Emma so eloquently put it, all medications can have potential side effects. These companies have to protect themselves and list any and all effects that may happen, no matter how rare they are.

Now you took the time to go the derm, they evaluated your condition and prescribed something that they think may help nj's acne, not mine, or anypne else's here…they saw you, we have not.

I think you should have a little more trust and confidence in what you are going to use, and you know what…..it JUST may work for you. Don't worry unecessarily. If a medication is not agreeing with you, beleive me you will know it, and once you stop it, you will be ok. But that's nothing to worry about now. Your derm has not prescribed anything awful at all. In fact it all sounds rather effective to me, but in any event, good luck to you. It's gonna be ok nj…one day at a time.

Reply:Hi NJ guy

I agree with your philosophy of choosing health over vanity, however, you'll only die from colitis if it is ulcerative, and left untreated…you would have a fever, and be passing bloody stools. Obviously, if you develop any symptoms of this, you would notify your MD, and discontinue immediately. I have a few friends that have colitis (not induced by medicine), and none of them have even come close to dying, although it does happen occasionally in very severe cases.

Your clindamycin is going through your skin, and not much of it is absorbed into your bloodstream. I personally didn't like clindamycin–it wasn't effective for my skin, but I think you should give it a shot..unless you're that freaked out.

All medicines have nasty side effects–tylenol is one of the worst offenders, and benzoyl peroxide is also absorbed into your body, so there are risks in all drugs.
Sorry this is so long
Good Luck!
~Emma

[This message has been edited by moderator2 (edited 05-18-2003).]

Reply:Topical clindamycin? Just looked it up, only a very small percentage is absorbed through the skin. Those side effects have been reported, but only rarely.

Minocycline might make your stomach hurt. Take it with food, and don't take it with milk products.

Some people choose not to take oral antibiotics because they can cause problems. But that is with all medications, and most other things in life too.

Maybe you could try using the Differin, then, if you see results with that, don't use anything else. If you don't, maybe add in the clindamycin, then minocycline as necessary.

Good luck

Reply:over reacting???????????????????????????????? ?????????????????? why the hell does it have that in bold and big ass letters that you can die from it!!! im thinking about just using the gel and screw the rest to much of a risk. i rather live healty and have messed up skin, then like with perfect skin and a messed up body.

Reply:NJ GUY

Relax. Nothing is going to happen to you. You are not going to die from an antibiotic.

Why did you stop proactiv? Was it not working for you?

[This message has been edited by guy (edited 05-17-2003).]

Reply:Die from clindamycin? No offense, but I think you're overreacting.

Reply:My doctor had to try 3 different antibiotics before he would prescribe ti for me. I think things might have changed in the last 10 years.. not sure. I just know for someone with mild to moderate there has to be things in the file (maybe to cover his butt) that had been tried and failed.

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone can describe the differences with the antibiotic Tetracycline, Minocycline and doxycycline?

Reply:Minocin is good if used with Retin A, but its no cure..it can only control your acne to an extent

Reply:they're all variations on the same thing, all related. kinda like ampicillan, penacillin, amoxicillan.

Reply:Kinda feel like I got immuned to them after some time.. and the pills don't show any effect after that.. acnes come back.. well, all of them, but I think Doxy and Mino is the best so far.

Reply:I'm on doxy, what do you mean by "turn ugly"?

Reply:I don't know the differences but all works for me, for a short while, before they turn ugly.

I am on minocycline for about a month now and no results. I take 100mg per day. 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. it would be ok if I find more in one day? is it possible that I would see better results when I increased my dose?

Reply:Hi. I was on minocycline 50 mg twice daily for about 2 years. My dermotologist told me it takes 6-8 weeks to be truely effective, and it did. After about 4-6 weeks my skin was a lot clearer and eventually cleared up (my face, my back and my chest). Now, I chose to discontinue it for fear that I had been on it way to long. I have been off it for about 6 months and my skin is geting horribly worse. Worse than ever. Now, I am trying the Murad system and it seems to be working so far.

Reply:I've been on 200 mg a day for less than a week. That dosage along with the topical i'm using is treating me pretty good, my skin feels smoother than ever. I think an increased dosage would make a difference definately.

Reply:thanks for the reply. i think i'm gonna increase to 150mg and see what happens then.

Reply:I started out at 200, which is the highest does you are supposed to take.
All I can say is that I saw immediate results. I cut down to 100 I think within 2 months, and then to 50 within another 1 or 2 months time.

As far as you getting better results, I couldn't tell ya. Look across this board and you will see very varied opinions on mino. But in my own personal opinion, I say it couldn't hurt to try it, right?

Reply:Usually an accutane course will be about 5 months long, hopping on and off it for a month at a time won't do as much good as just sticking out the whole thing. The price of the pills varies with the size of them, I'm on 1x 40mg daily and it costs about ?125 for a month's supply if I remember correctly.

Right broken out on my forehead, but no red marks and bumps only shows where Ive raised my seat. Normally this wouldnt be where id red.

Im ready to give, maybe ill try in the summer, but i cannot take this.

Does nobody knows when the Retin-A is supposed to start CLEARING pimples instead of making them?

Ive read many of the topics on this but all their various series, can anyone tell me what it did for them?

Thankyou for your time.

Reply:uh just dont go out in the sun when using retin a.but i think u guys already know that.i swear i think i have had almost every acne treatment known to man.

Reply:I'm on Minocycline, Retin-A and Benzamyacin. I've been on the topicals since about March, and the oral since about the end of June or beginning of July. My face was bad when I first started the topicals, but it does get better. Make sure to use a small amount, otherwise your face burns, gets red and peels very badly. My face is not perfect, but I only get one every once in a while and it's mostly red spots clearing up.

Reply:hey doom yes it does burn ur face off but that's only during the first 2-3 weeks of treatment…that's because retin-a bring all the acne and dirt and bacteria 2 the surface to get rid of it…. but after 3 weeks (1 ricking month!!!!!!!!) ur skin will get bettter and better…i know this yet i still don't wanna go near the stuf.. IT BURNSSSSSSSSS LIKE HELL!!! literaly

——————
what's PPP!!??

Reply:iv used retin-a cream 0.025 for a while and found it just makes my skin dry and red… infact retin a does more damage than its good for, totaly wrecks your face because it burns it off

i now use a cream called panoxl 5… along with tablets… they work

[This message has been edited by guy (edited 09-21-2003).]

Reply:Im thinking ill try to tough it out, but its going to be hard. *sigh*

And its only been a week…

Reply:consider ur self lucky in a few weks u'll look totaly perfect…hey how about giving me ur phone number now before ya get to beautiful for some 1 like me!??? LOLOL jk!

i'm still scared to go back to retin-a…and winter is comming up so my skin will be really dry during winter

——————
what's PPP!!??

Reply:I'm in the same boat. I'm on erythromycin and retin a micro. It's just been 2 weeks and I've been going thru a BAD initial breakout. My chin is getting it the worst, very painful and embarrasing. It seemed one would go away then 3 would come to it's funeral (line stolen from Sex & the City, Samantha's gray hairs heeeheeheee.) Anyway…I'm hangin in there. I think the results will be worth it. I'm slowly getting fewer new ones, and am starting to notice better skin texture.

Good luck!
SJ

Reply:yes retin-a makes it worse that's cuz it bringing all the junk to the surface to get rid of it…. so for like2-3 weeks you'll look like a monster… it'll take 1 month 2 get results ….i myself tried retin-a for 4 days and i gave up on it cuz i didn't know what i know now…but i'm sacred to go back to it cuz of the way it'll make me look at first…. so i'm trying tetracyline …. hope that helps

——————
what's PPP!!??

Reply:If you give up this early into the treatment, you'll be screwing yourself. Be realistic, it takes about 2 months to see dramatic changes and most topicals will give you an initial break out which means it'll get worse before it gets better.

My acne got worse on retin a but after a month its clearing up.

Hey guys!
My new derm prescribed me Differin gel at night and daytime Benzaclyn. Has anyone tried? Will it do anything? He also gave me minocycline 50mg for one week. Will this do anything?

Reply:i've tried both too but neither worked very well for me. benzaclyn made me extremely dry & didn't really help at all & i don't think i was on differin long enough to see any real results except that it made my acne worse but that was supposed to happen. it didn't dry me out as bad as benzaclyn but i quit for some reason & i can't remember why. i wish my doc had put me on mino instead of tetracycline & erythromycin.
good luck to who tries them

Reply:Differin did nothing for me even after about 8 months. I am now going to start to use tazorac. I tried this before about 2 years ago, but it didn't work. I just realized that the samples he gave me were EXPIRED! I never looked at the box when I was trying it, I just assumed it didn't help! He wanted me to give it another try this week and when I went to use it I thought I'd better check because I had it sitting in the bathroom for so long. Come to find out it expired in Jan '01………He gave it to me in summer of '01 !! LOSER!!
So I will try this again. As far as the Differin, I really liked the way it went on but I just continued to break out over and over. But it must have been doing a little something because when I stopped it, I broke out really bad!
Good luck
L

Reply:I took mino too…and it was brilliant but the bc pill was what cleared my skin…just got to get rid of the scars now…

Differin was horrible for me, cause scarring and no difference to my skin.

Reply:I take differin at night with MDforte along with monodox. The differin seems to work for me but the klaron topical lotion seems to make my acne redder.

Reply:Mino is working for me at 75mgs 2 x a day. Hope once I stop it my problem doesnt return although thats what a lot of people say here. Have not used your other 2 scripts. Good luck.

Reply:yes i have used them all (at different times though) and all did very well for me to clear me up. the only problem i had was that differin dried me out incredibly.

Reply:Its working now because my acne isnt as severe as before. 2 years ago my face was covered with red marks, now theres only a few and the Mino really takes the inflammation and infection of the pimples I do get right out of them.

Reply:Aaron, glad it is working for you!

Crazyjoe, I wonder why mino is working now, and did not in the past?? Anyway about the mino and alcohol, it may be a question for your pharmacist. They may be able to tell you the "window" of time you have after taking the pill that you can consume alcohol if at all. I don't really know personally.

Reply:I have taken Mino before, it has done nothing.

Now after 2 years I went on it again, and now its workig really well.

100 mg twice a day.

I was wondering how alcohol effects me if I am on Minocycline. Can I drink in moderation or at all while on it?

Reply:I have been on MINOCYCLIN 100mg – 2x per day for over 1 month.

This is a great anti-biotic, but there are certain cases where patients report blueness or blue-ish coloring of the nails, forehead, and gums. For me, so far so good.

It's been 1 month I have had clear skin. Its the combination of this MINOCYCLIN, Ret-in A, and Neutrogena Face Wash. I do have 1 pimple right now.
