Hi, Im 24 and had mild to moderate acne my whole life and I guess Im just sick of it! I went to the derm and he prescribed me prostitute, Retin A cream (generic), a face wash and I put on another date once in the morning. I have all the topicals and washing one time and they seem very soft which is great. In about 10 minutes I take my first pill Doxy. Can anyone tell me just kind expieriences is this? Has anyone used this many products at once?

Im just really looking for stories of a good or bad to get a feel for what a bunch!
ACNE expect.

THANKS SUCKS!: Nar:

Reply:Yea I am 20 soon to be turning 21 and everything has been downhill for me so I start Yasmin this sunday sooo I will let you know how it goes…. and how the doxy is working… Good Luck with everything

Reply:I am the same way. I dont wear makeup. BUT if you have to i recommend something like bare minerals or whatever it is called. I guess it works wonders and is so light and unnoticable. My friend uses it and she will never go back to liquid or anything else. It's the stuff on the infomercials.

I am currently on Doxycycline 100mg 2x a day, then he prescribed a wash for me to use in the morning and after work, then a gel for the morning (to apply to active areas) and retin-a at night. So far they all seem gentle on my skin which is good. I HOPE IT WORKS!!! I am 24 and find this all so embarassing!!!

I hope the bc switch helps you, but be aware, that if it is for sex protection too it will weaken the effects.

I am on the depoprovera shot. Love it!

Reply:K this is what I am currently doing Taking doxycycline 100mg twice a day washing morning and night with Ovace face wash perscribed by my derm it is a 10% Sodium Sulfacetamide wash and finally twice a day applying benzaclin. Then on top of that taking desogen (bcp) but I just finished my last pill back of desogen and I am getting yasmin today and starting it sunday and he said the yasmin should help? I hope soo I go back to school monday and i'm in my jr year of college and my face looks worse then it has ever been and I am forced to wear makeup for the first time in my life and I dread it I'm soo not a makeup girl never in my life I have ever needed cover up foundation the breakouts I would get would be mild but persistant I've been seeing the derm since 8th grade on and off due to all the breakouts then this past june my face went crazy! So I am just going to continue counting down the days until I get my first perscription of accutane cover up can only do soo much…

Reply:Hey Bella- I hope your skin clears up. It is so stressful especially when we sit here and put all these pills in out bodies! I am hoping that with the wash, gel and retin-a my skin might not have an innitial bad break out. Hopefully it will just get better ya know! Are you using anything else besides the Doxy and bc?

Reply:I have been on doxy for four weeks now and I dunno if I am still experiencing the initial break out but its horrible!! next week will be my fifth week and in a month from now I am going to be going on acccutane anyways but I still wanted to give this atleast 2 months to work but soo far nothing my face just gets worse and worse and worse but I am praying I will see some improvement in my face before I start the accutane…?? So I dunno if this break out is the doxycycline or I switched my birth control a month before starting doxycycline and was breaking out then too but not as bad as now?? but my derm said I should switch my birth control to Yasmin he said its the best for acne the one I am on now is desogen and he said its good for acne but no "the best" sooo tomorrow I am going to the gyno and getting yasmin sooo we'll see how it goes just be prepared ur face could get worse before better but give it at least 2 months I guess thats what I am doing

Reply:Oh yeah! I have only taken one pill so far which was this morning and I am taking another later…3 hours after i took the pill i have been mildly itchy with no rash, hives, just a bit itchy like on my hips, back and various places. Does this sound like it could be an allergic reaction? Or has anyone else expierienced something like this?

Reply:Thanks for the reply.

As for topicals, they seem really gentle, as does the face wash which is great! The doctor didnt seem to think i'd break out much because of all the stuff he prescribed me but he did see it can take 3 weeks to notice a difference.

I am on the depo shot for bc and love it. And it is progestrone only so its effects shouldnt weaken due to the doxy!

Reply:Oh man you are about to start down the road to recovery. Well I will just let you know that you will have an intial breakout. Be very gentle with the topicals as well. The intial breakout was the worst experience I have ever had. It happened about 1 month into treatment and then I had clear skin for almost 2 years. The only bad thing is I had to get off Doxy. because I kept getting yeast infections so now I think my acne is coming back. I am 22 and I was prescribed at 20. I am still using differin and klaron as topicals. I take Yasmin for birth control as well.
I have oily / combo skin and moderate acne. I was using Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser and was not impressed

Reply:what do you guys think of the possibility, that this scrub could cause tears in the skin which would allow more bacteria to enter…

thats is what i have read, but i hope not because i really want to try it, but am scared to…

Reply:DeeDee,
I do agree that the scrub I have is a little too harsh but it still does a really good job of exfoliating. My skin feels really smooth and I dont know if its just my imagination but it seems like the little fine lines on my forehead are gone, too.

Reply:I have very sensative skin so i use the gentle scrub and i love it!! I can not use just anything on my skin and this stuff works wonders for me!!

Reply:guy : Glad you like this. I will add to your topic that I was not impressed with their new exfoliating cloths if anyone is interested. Nothing special. I was on the hunt for a gentle exfoliater to use twice a week and got those wipes to my disappointment. I was wondering if anyone tried St. Ives "gentle" scrub? I think the one that guy speaks about may be a little too harsh for me at this point and was intrigued by the "gentle" form of their ever popular scrub. Anyone?

I was curious how the results for those of you who have used Epidermx? I was also wondering the results are lasting. I have mild to moderate acne and scars (usually with a few red spots pitting scars that are not very large) so how do you think this product would work for me. Your feedback is greatly appreciated! : D

Reply:I know this is an epidermx thread, but guy, I just wanted to tell you that Capsiderm cleanser has been working really really well for my red marks. I have very fair skin and the red marks were more noticeable than the active acne.
There are a couple threads on Capsiderm, you should check it out.

I am also interested in trying the Epidermx and camellia oil, but I am trying to really stick to one thing at a time now.
Also, I figure the Epidermx and camellia oil will be great for my skin whether or not I have acne, so I can always try it when I am clear and perfect
(hee hee, fingers crossed)

Reply:I am really interested in trying Eperdmx for my red acne marks along with the camelia oil. I am currently using Alpha Hydrox glycolic acid peels once a week along with a 12% AHA cream nightly and will be using my last peel next week. It has curbed my acne, but my red marks almost seem even brighter than before. I am thinking that microdermabrasion(Eperdmx) will do a better job lightneing these marks, but does anyone know how long I should wait to begin after my chemical peels? I don't want to overdo.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Reply:It's the right product for you. My situation was very similar to yours when I started on it. I use it along with Silkia camellia oil – been over 10 months now. My red marks were gone in 2 months and so far the moderately deep pitted scars are over 80% better.

The results for the pitted scars are permanent … well I still use it once or twice a week and the camellia oil everyday. It won't totally prevent acne from cropping up again, but will keep it under control. I've had much less breakouts since using these 2 products. The Silkia camellia oil is a really nice moisturizer and I'm convinced it has helped a lot with plumping up my indents.

I am a 17 years old man, and I have moderate acne scars start to leave. I saw my derm as three months ago, and she prescribed me doxycycline 100 mg capsules (170 of them) for 6 months twice a day to take. But I started taking them 4 times a day, two in the morning and two at Nite. After about 2-3 weeks my acne cleared 100 percent, it remained clear for about 1 week and it broke out again, while I was still taking the doxycycline. Then after about 1-2 weeks the weather cleared up 100 percent, not a pimple. After I had finished all the capsules doxycycline, my face was cleared 100 percent for about 3-4 weeks, I was using Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Gel along with taking the pills, the derm suggested that I use Neutrogena. I went to the derm about three weeks ago, and she prescribed me 60 more doxycycline 100 mg capsules that I take competitors. I played with them for about a week now, but my face looks clear for a week then broke again. Once a cyst is gone, leaving a scar brown, the scar seems to be fading, but all of a sudden I started again to stir up the scar in the same place. Does anyone know why the cysts scars begin to stir again, or has anyone else had their faces clear up, you think its cleared, then out of the blue is on a run again fanning the flames. If anyone knows what I can do about this or why this may happen, let me know! Thank You! 1

Reply:hi bonafide, welcome to the boards. i think that you are/were taking to much of the doxy. you need to stay on a regular dose because you are bombarding your system with all those antibodies and your system goes haywire! to compensate, your body will try to build up a resistance to the antibodies and this sounds like when your face breaks out again. this is why it is so important not to overdo it. i know that it is very hard because you think more has to be better and will clear you up faster, when in fact the opposite is true. so i would recommend that you continue your doxy but in normal doses and let your body adjust. does your derm have you on a topical like differin or retina micro? if not you should ask your derm for it. good luck to you!
When I became 23 and entered graduate school as a result of stress, diet, whatever, it was much worse. I decided I had to do something. I went to see a derm and he put me on differin. That is also the same time I started browsing the forums. I was not so fortunate, because many people seemed to get negative results from differin. Many people said that made it worse. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a shot. Well, that was January of this year. Now Im 100% clear. Absolutely no active pimples and redness of years I had in the past breakouts all but faded. Differin made it worse for the first month, but I found that the meaning of the medicine worked. Then, it was a slow steady improvement. Anyway, I thought I write this for those people who try or think to try. Differin to work for some people. Its worth a try.

Reply:I agree. It did nothing for me, but I have a friend who cleared right up from Differin and continues to have beautiful skin. We ARE all different, or Differin as the case may be, lol!

Ok, so Im 21 years old, and the last time I had modest acne when I was a sophomore in high school. It cleaned up pretty quickly and not really leave no scars. Well the last time over the past five months, I noticed my acne worse and worse by the day. Ive been noticing these little bumps on the sides of my face (as you can only see the light), and even painful cystic acne. I went to the Derm. and they put me on minocycline in the beginning. I tried it for about one month, and saw nothing but worse. She had me by Retin-A (which I stopped because it had nothing to do), and my face looked even worse after I stopped taking it. So I went back and they decided to take me on Spiro. and Bactrim. Im on 50 mg of Spiro in the morning, and then Bactrim in the morning and before bedtime. So far I have not noticed . I can kind of an improvement in oil production, but with the still. Point is, this is not the right combination for me or do I have more time before I criticize? Thanks so much!

Reply:You are not giving these drugs enough time to clear you. I used to be like you too and I would give up and the acne would just get worse. It took almost 2 months for Doxy. and Yasmin to clear me. And it did get alot worse before it got better but I stuck it out and I am glad I did! From what I have heard Spiro. takes even longer to show improvement like 3-4 months. Just stick with what you are doing and take your meds. every day and you will be clear soon! Good luck!

Reply:i agree, give spiro more time. its very slow to work, but it works well. 2-4 months like the other person said. and definitely talk to your derm about increasing your dosage to 100mg. i have been taking 100mg spiro for almost a month now and i'm still breaking out, but its significantly less than before. i also have a lot less oil. i used to have to touch up my makeup just a half hour after applying it, but now i can easily go half a day without any touch ups. its great.

Reply:Thanks so much for the response! I was starting to think that I wasn't on a high enough dose of the spiro. I tried taking Yasmin as well and that made my face worse. So I'm going to check with my derm. and see if I can up my dose. I am currently washing my face with Aveeno oatmeal cleansing bar, not too much of a difference. I'm going to try that for a while, but i've only been on the spiro for a month.

Reply:You should get the book The Hormonally Vulnerable Woman by Geoffrey Redmond. It talks all about Spiro and birth control pills and all kinds of things. Anyway it says you need about 100mgs to 200mgs for it to work on acne. And it takes about 2 to 4 months to work. I am on 100mgs and am on day 49. I have seen a major difference with the oil control, I don't have any oil any more. Before spiro I would wash my face and about a half hour later my face would be oily again. It sucked. I am still breaking out, but I think it was be/c of my birth control pills. My breakout all started from alesse so I stopped that and then switched to yasmin which wasn't the right birth control pill for me either so I had to go back to OTC again (I stopped using it a few years ago be/c of the mood swings I was getting, they were bad) but my face was great on it. So I am on day 3 on the birth control pill, so I'm hoping that things will start to work out now. And my derm did the same thing yours did. He put me on doxy first but that didn't help, it still isn't and I've been taking the doxy longer then the spiro. I don't put anything at all on my face be/c it just seemed to make it worse. How long have you been on spiro? I do think you need to be on a higher dose though. The book says some times 75 mgs can work. By the way I am 23 yrs old and I get cyst acne and it can be sooo painful
