Hello everyone,

Up until about two months ago I suffered with comedo type of acne and oily skin, to try and I to this problem that I 10 years lost opted for B5 I broke out terribly, I stopped her and my skin is appeased, but now I seem to get lit spot and I only ever suffered this about once a week, but now I seem to get new daily.
Im currently using BP as a stand-alone treatment and to spot treat with Tea Tree Oil, my problem is that I am miserable and find it dam hard life sometimes face this problem at the moment I find it hard to get out of bed in the morning and I am finding myself canceling all my appointments, I think so confident about myself 0.
I think I may have to return to my doctor and another course of antibiotics to try as all my other attempts to deal with this problem themselves have failed, i know people talk about antibiotics, but if I do not get some relief soon i think Im crazy, My partner has noticed that I was not myself at Christmas and heading this way this problem seems much worse.

Reply:Good luck, scouselad, whatever you opt for.. I must say though, after what I heard about antibiotics.. and experiencing the consequences myself, I would never go through with it again. Perhaps your recent breakouts are the aftermath of taking B5, and it will clear up soon. Whatever happens, don't give up. I understand what you're going through, as do many others. Come here whenever you need some emotional support.

For those of you who feel that food affects acne is not any of you have a routine that you stick to in regards to eating, you feel that helps your skin?

I have a very oily skin, there is no food that can be recommended or that I would avoid definatelty?

Many Thanks.

Reply:This thread is old but I wanted to move it back up cause I have a few questions. Hopefully someone here will be able to answer them.

1) Why are things like bananas, corn, and peas bad? I would think such foods that occur in nature and aren't manufactured by man would be safe, at least as far as acne is concerned.
2) Why would oats be good but bread and rice be bad? I can understand why bread and rice are bad, but I would think oats would be bad for the same reason. After all, oats are man-made too, right? If plain oatmeal really is good for acne, I'll be relieved since I'm used to eating a bowl of it everyday.
3) How come nonfat yogurt is good? I was under the impression that all dairy is bad. My own experience seemed to suggest so. Milk and cheese were under the "Bad Foods" list so I was surprised to see yogurt in the "Good Foods" list. Does the fat content make a difference?
4) What about coffee? Is that something to avoid?
5) Why would anyone eat snake food?

By the way, thank you so much for putting together this list. Maybe it should be a sticky.

Reply:So you guys think that eating Quaker Oats is ok?? Ingredients = 100% NATURAL ROLLED OATS.

I stopped eating other cereals like cheerios and frosted flakes.

Does this stuff taste good by itself with water?……of course I wouldn't use milk. How do you make it? lol :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing: :dizzy:

Reply:Sunflower seeds
Tomatoes
*Turkey
*Yogurt (non-fat)
*Tea

*These are foods that are especially good for your acne.

How is non-fat yogurt specially good for acne? I am trying to increase my daily caloric intake, while sticking to a a diet of foods similar to the ones JohnSmith007 posted. I am fairly active and have begun weight training five days a week, but am encountering problems getting enough calories in a day so that I do not lose weight and will be better able to gain muscle mass. If non-fat yogurt is good for acne I would certainly enjoy adding it to my breakfast. But I am skeptical of how it can be good. If you have an answer please reply. Thanks!

Reply:the johnsmith food list is good. just wanted to add my two cents.

i also stick with LOW GLYCEMIC index food. certain "natural" foods cause spike in blood sugar. in particular, pototoes and carrots. these should be avoided/eaten in moderation.

eat lots of FRESH (not canned or frozen) vegetables, leafy greens, beans/legumes, nuts and seeds (raw, not roasted/salted).

avoid SIMPLE carbs, dairy, sweets/sugar, processed food.

good luck!

Reply:Wow thanks for that information, I appreciate it.

Reply:I've posted this before and go a lot of response. This is just a list from a very creditable acne book.

Foods that are good for your acne:

*Almonds
Apples
*Beans (dried and fresh)
*Berries
Brazil nuts
Broccoli
Celery
Cherries
*Chicken
Cucumbers
Fish and Shellfish
*Flaxseed
Hazelnuts
Kidney beans
Macadamia nuts
Mushrooms
*Oatmeal (regular, not instant)
Oats
*Olive Oil
Pears
Pecans
Pumpkin seeds
*Romaine lettuce
*Salmon
Sunflower seeds
Tomatoes
*Turkey
*Yogurt (non-fat)
*Tea

*These are foods that are especially good for your acne.

Foods that are bad for your acne:

Bagels
Bananas
Breads, rolls
Cake
Candy
Cereals
Cookies
Corn
Cornbread
Cornstarch
Crackers
Cream cheese
Croissants
Doughnuts
Dried fruits
Egg rolls
Flour (white and wheat)
French fries
Fried foods
Fruit juices
Granola
Hard cheese (except Romano and Parmesan)
Honey
Hot dogs
Ice cream, frozen yogurt, Italian ice, sherbert
Jam, jelly, preserves
Mango
Margarine
Milk
Molasses
Muffins
Noodles
Pancakes
Papaya
Pasta
Pastry
Peas
Pie
Pita Bread
Pizza
Popcorn
Potatoes
Pudding
Relish
Rice
Snake foods
Soda
Sugar (white and brown)
Tacos
Tortillas
Waffles

As for a whole meal plan you should just try to make one out of these foods. One thing you have to keep in mind is that if you do eat some sort of sugar (even natural sugar from fruit), you should also eat some sort of protein (meat, nuts, beans) with it so that you keep your sugar level down. If you have just sugar is will raise your sugar level, which causes acne. Also if you have to have chocolate, dark chocolate is much better than plain. If you have any other questions just ask.

Reply:I do try to avoid greasy foods. I may eat them once a week but not a lot at that one time. My skin is oily and sensitive. Grapes, grape juice, lemonade, those orange Mountain Dews, and too much sweet tea make me break out. That is just me. I just think it's different with each person though. You kinda have to "test" yourself. I have found that the right diet and proper cleansing are 2 key elements in controlling acne. Oh, and oral medications, too.

Has anyone here seen an endocrinologist for acne? Dermatologists have not helped me one bit. I think theres something more going on inside me that must be addressed before the oily skin and acne can ever be solved.

Reply:guy:

I have an appt with an endocrinologist this Friday and I plan to address my acne. What did they say and do for yours and did it help?

Reply:Endos specialize in hormonal issues, not just diabetes. I have seen one for my acne (and a couple other syptoms) because it turned out I had a hormone imbalance that had to be addressed.

Reply:dont they specialize in diabetes??

Yeah, they like to talk about your thyroid. We went to a reproductive endo and he was worthless. He told dd that he could help her get pregnant lol. Then he said he could help me get pregnant!!! I was not happy. At least we got the low down on all the hormone levels. After all was said and done we got spiro from our derm. Why didn't he mention it before? It wasn't until I brought it up that he was gung ho. Finding a sympathetic doctor is half the battle. If you are in New York City, go see Dr. Geoffrey Redmond. He is the acne/hormone guru.

Reply:dont they specialize in diabetes??

Reply:I have always wondered if I should see one. I would like to know who on here has too.

I have a serious,: rolleyes: Back Acne and oily skin on my face and back. Does anyone know of a cleaner that is pretty successful CLEARING back?

MANY THANKS

Reply:I used to struggle with back acne. I tried everything and everything. I started taking Minocycline a year ago and haven't had any breakouts on my back since. It was a miracle for me. My acne was moderate. It's said that head and shoulders works as well as dead sea salt but didn't work like I wanted it to. Good luck!

Reply:If your acne is severe, no over the counter (or prescription cleanser, for that matter) is going to help much. Have you been on / though about Accutane? It is usually the only "cure" for severe acne.

I have oily skin and all I can say is, Ive had enough. Is there a way to internally change my skin type?

Wrinkle and Skin Rejuvenation
Reply:anybody have some advice?

Natural Skin Whitening eBook
Reply:thanks for the advice guy..however..i am in search for a more permanent natural approach instead of taking pills for long periods of time so that it alters my body in some unknown way. I know there are things like liver flushes that i hear can have a change on your oil production. I have also been on a digestive colon cleanse for a while, the one mentioned by Erimus. Unfortunately I did not receive the results that a lot of ppl had. I also have been on a strict diet that consists of meat, vegetables, and fruit. I eat no processed foods whatsoever and drink plenty of water. Sadly, I am still getting my usually breakouts. If anyone has had success in balancing their oil production thru a NATURAL method, i would truly appreicaite you sharing. Otherwise, my endless search continues….

Skin Lightening Report.
Reply:My skin is usually oily in the summer and dry in the winter. I usually break out more in the winter though. Even in the winter I can have patches of flakey skin that is shiny from oil. Makes it difficult to pick products. However, my oily skin was normal at the end of this summer from using green cream and retinA mico. I totally had normal skin, it was great! Decreasing the oil, even made my large pores on my nose smaller. I really beleive it was these 2 products that did it. Now that the cooler weather has started where I live, my skin is drier, but not to bad yet. I did have to decrease the times that I use GC and RAM, but so far so good. I am also doing a digestive system cleanse, but my skin became normal before I even started that.
Maybe check into using either a retinol (green cream) or tretinoin (retinA micro). Just so you know, you have to be patient with these products. It took over 10 weeks before the oil production decreased for me.
I know this b/c the only place on my skin that doesnt get oily is my chin, and it is almost always acne free..even when i get the rare rare pimple on my chin it goes away so quicky b/c oil is not constantly keeping the pimple inflamed or plugged. I know that my oilyness is partly genetic b/c my mom has very oily skin. But I've heard that oilyness is a hormonal imbalance that is caused by the inefficiency of certain internal organs? I dunno..does anyone know a possible solution that can internally help me balace my oil production? Cuz i know its not about eliminating oil production, its about balancing it. Any advice would help a lot..
There seems to be a conflict about the oily skin and moisturizing. Some things Ive read that you are not required if you have oily skin. I think when I am done with Accutane Ill try not to hydrate.
When you're on Accutane you need to use a moisturizer. When you finish your Accutane treatment, don't worry, the oil will return. It's up to you then if you want to continue using a moisturizer or not. If your skin is really oily, it's not necessary. Your own sebum is the best moisturizer there is.

Many people say that if you don't moisturize, your skin will get dry and will produce more oil to compensate. That may be true, I don't know. But in my case, whatever I use my skin has the same level of oil. It just wants to be oily and that's that. I don't think a moisturizer is going to help matters, and why put something on my face that may clog pores and cause breakouts?? This is just my personal experience, other people probably have different thoughts.

I'm not on Accutane, though, so I can't say what's best for you. Good luck.
