I am much worse than before I Tazorac. My face is very bumpy now – sooner rather smooth, but now it is so bumpy. Im starting to break near my jaw line more and more. My face just looks worse.

I thought it would be an improvement in the month, but it is not – AT ALL. Im really becoming frustrated. Does anyone have any positive stories that convince me that the stuff would actually work?

Reply:My only experience with Tazorac was with my oldest daughter who suffers with eczema on her scalp. HOWEVER! I will offer a bit of GOOD ADVICE to you for any kind of skin problem – WATER WATER WATER!

Drink as much water as you can stand, more than what you usually drink; it is the golden cure for most skin problems and especially if you are using a prescription medication that has the tendency to bring toxins out of your system and onto your skin! I have trained my daughters to do this all of their three little lives because we are of irish / german descent and have very sensitive skin.

Also some prescription warning labels will tell you to stay out of direct sunlight while using them and I believe Tazorac is one of them. I also believe that Bactrim is another. The UV rays from the sun will cause further bumps and break-out and can even make your skin very red, very quickly.

Hope this helps and try increasing your water intake!

Belle

Reply:So, my skin should start to improve in a little bit by then? I'm hoping, because I have swimming in gym in 4 weeks…

Reply:As much as it sucks and this is not what you want to hear, the Taz just takes time. I have been on it for a little over 2 months, and I promise you it gets better. Tazorac works by bringing everything to the surface. The first month, my skin was HORRIBLE… I know how frustrated you feel. Please just know that you can make it through the tough initial month, and only good things are on the other side. Taz (taken with minocycline) has made my skin very soft, and I only get pimples occasionally, where before I had moderate acne. Hang in there, and know that this just takes time but is worth it. Good luck!

What strength/type (cream or gel) are you on on? Is your face completely dry when you apply the Tazorac? What kind of acne do you have? I have noticed that everyone gets results at different points some it quicker some it takes longer. I have been on Taz Cream for 9 weeks and I am now just starting to see an improvement. Also are you on any antibiotics?

I use Tazorac for 1.5 weeks now and saw a little improvement, share your experience with this medication with me and what kind you use cream or gel, some detergents, moisturizers or other topicals, I need some encouragement and guidance I am really frustrated and one low.

Reply:You're definately luck you have Tazorac, keep up the patients… it works great

Reply:Oh yeah, I use Benzaclin too. Not at the same time though, I heard that they can cancel out the effects of eachother if you do. I use benzaclin during the day, and Taz overnight. Like lucky star, I used Triaz for a while, and I love it but it runs out too fast, and I'm too lazy to go to the pharmacy every time it runs out… (Taz and Benzaclin last a LONG time)

Reply:lucky star and aquarius (and anyone else) can you use benzaclin or duac (benzoil peroxide) with a retinoid? Can you put on tazorac then use the benzoil peroxide over it? For some reason I always thought that you can't use these two at the same time, what's the deal?

Reply:hey whats up. i have been on Tazorac for about 9 months. I started out with .05 cream, then went to .1 cream, then went to .05 gel and now, .1 gel (the strongeset). I am very happy with my results. my acne mostly consisted of black and white heads, and of course the monstruous sized pimples. and i am happy to say just about all my black/white heads have vanished. i still get pimples, but not as bad nor as often. I apply taz gel everynight and then i wash off (b/c my face is sensitive and the taz can be harsh). i use duac with taz to "kill" the acne. i am also happy with duac. I use Triaz facewash and i love that too. I am currently now working the minor scars i have but i will most a new thread about that…i first started with differin, and that caused the "initial breakout" and wow my face looked horrible..my acne was RED, OILY and BIG. my doc then gave me Taz which made the swelling go down, the redness fad and dried my skin. (thank goodness) but everyone reacts different to the meds…gotta find what works for u! but good luck! any other questions, let me know…

Reply:I've been using Tazorac for about a year (minus the summer, when I like to sit out in the sun). For me, Tazorac was really harsh at first. My skin peeled like crazy, and make-up wouldn't go on evenly. I had a huge break-out, and it seemed to take forever for acne to fade. Then, after about 3-4 weeks, my skin looked entirely different. I didn't develop any new acne, and my spots seemed to be gone overnight. (Additionally, I did use Benzaclin during the day)

Currently, I just started using Taz again (after being off it for 4 months), and I am recovering from a really bad stint of initial breakouts. I only have a few small blemishes, and I don't really need make-up. My skin peeled really bad a few days ago, but now everything is normal.

For a moisturizer, I use Oil of Olay for sensitive skin, both in the morning (mixed with Benzaclin) and in the evening (about 20 minutes before I put on Tazorac). I wash with Clean and Clear Blackhead Scrub, and I use Mudd 15 minute mask a few times a week. This regimine has served me well in the past, and it appears to be working again.

Reply:Hi,

You seemed like you really needed help and I've been there so I thought I would try. I had a really bad bout with it a few years ago. You can do what you like with my advice, but it worked wonders for me (the culmination of a great deal of research).

First, if you really want to be free of acne, you have to deal with the cause, not the symptoms. Acne is usually caused by a hormonal imbalance of some kind, whether by stress or diet or whatever. So if you are serious about having clear skin, you need to start by cleaning out your system. At the very least, drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, with fresh lemon if possible. Also, eat lots of fruit and vegetables (organic when possible) and avoid eating too much meat and dairy unless they are organic (otherwise they are loaded with hormones, which add to the imbalance of your own hormones). Also, avoid drinking any kind of pop–stick to water, fruit and veg juices. I know it sounds extreme, but if you really want clear skin, this is the way to do it.

Next, you need to stick to a face cleansing routine that never changes–do this morning and night no matter what. (I researched all of these products so I would suggest these). Wash your face gently with Spectro Jel face cleanser for sensitive and problem skin. Then put on a layer of Clear Pore treatment by neutorgena (salicylic acid). This is the best one because it doesn't have oils or other junk in it. Now, after you have done this, rub a little benzoyl peroxide on any actual spots of acne (such as the one on your forehead). I also used tea tree oil because it's more gentle, which is an astringent so not like regular oils. Finally, you need to put a layer of oil-free face cream on top of this. Why? Because otherwise your face will dry out, and the more you dry your face out with all the chemicals (especially those from the doctor) the more you skin will fix the imbalance by creating more oil! Hence more acne. The best cream I found was Neutrogena Moisture Oile-Free for Sensitive Skin, I'm sure you can buy it anywhere. The final thing I did was twice a week I did a gentle face exfoliation with a tea tree cleanser called Snap.

Oh and another great tip. Twice a week, before going to sleep, put plain old Milk of Magnesia on your face (a thin layer) and let it dry. It will suck up all the oils that cause the acne. After you wipe it off, go forward with the above ritual.

It will not happen overnight, but it will happen if you do this. It will take about a month before you see real results, and three months before you start getting truly happy–but put it this way, what have you got to lose? I had really bad scarring on both sides of my face (people would stare!) and it took me about 1 year in total to get rid of the worst of it following this ritual. Now I still have some but it's so minor, only I can notice it. Remember, though, the part about diet is really important–especially the drinking loads of water and avoiding pop.

May you be happy again!

Best,
shawn

Reply:Get a new doctor! I have never heard of a doctor be so irresponsible.

First of all, your doctor should have either given you a coritzone shot to reduce it or had one of his nurses extract it for you.

You need to go to a dermatologist, have someone there do an extraction for you, because the fact that you said it still gets swollen sometimes proves that it still has debris in there. You obviously couldn't remove all the dead skin/bacteria by yourself (stupid doc) and what's in there is preventing it from healing.

Reply:See a skin specialist / dermatologist. Doesn't sound like your MD has a handle on this. If the doctor you're talking about it a dermatologist, see another one — I mean there is a bottom of every class! You've already given this doc 9 months with no results – get a second opinion.

Good luck & hope it clears up.

Reply:Hmm.. that may be the case… thanks for the comment, but honestly how much debris could get in? All I did was poke the spot with a needle and tried to squeeze the stuff out (not with hands). After my forehead went crazy I quickly iced it. I actually did let the doctor look at it since the incident, and he said it will probably not scar permanently, but after seeing no improvement I am losing faith in him (partially because he told me to poke this thing in the first place). Also he pretty much believes firmly in retinoids, steroids and bleaching agents, and thinks that any alternative will probably be danger. None of this stuff hasnt worked for 9 months and I'm ready for an alternative. any other suggestions?? Please please, anything will be appreciated.

Reply:It sounds to me as if you still have debris in the wound that wasn't completely removed when you messed with it. I think it is time to see a dermatologist and have it excised.

Reply:there was a point when the triluma actually lightened the skin around it without changing the mark itself, implying that the pigmentation was relatively deep. i heard that micro would probably worsen it but i havent heard of fraxel and will look into it. thanks for the info. honestly though, if this thing will go away for sure with time then i dont want to mess with it and risk worsening it (like what i did to create the mark in the first place). from what i told you do you think this will probably leave a permanent scar?

Reply:how deep is it? maybe you should consider microdermabrasion or fraxel.

My daughter has just finished her second week on Tazorac and she is now all cleared, no spots just red marks. This is really great if you would have seen her face the first week of using Tazorac, she was broken worse than Ive ever seen her. Any way my question is will help the red Tazorac? Should she keep using the TAZ, although they no longer broke out? Thanks

Reply:LuckyStar, My daughter is on the 1%. She has slightly oily skin. She tends to be a little dry now on the tazorac.

Reply:guy: is your daughter on .05% or 1% Tazorac? I just finished my first week of .05% and I am seeing improvements. (since Differin didn't really work for me) Also, does your daughter have oil-skin? If so, is is still oily with the Taz? thanx

Reply:guy, Thanks for your reply. How long have you been using the tazorac? Do you use anything else on your skin in the morning? Thanks

Reply:guy – glad to hear the Taz worked for your daughter! It worked for me too.

Keep using it – the taz will peel away the red marks fast. She'll have great looking skin in no time.

Reply:don't be down, I wanted to ask you what you wash your face with and also what toner you use. Are you not seeing any improvement with the taz after 3 mos.? Did you have that initial breakout with it?

Reply:Thanks for your reply!

Reply:Thats great that taz is helping your daughter (wish i could say the same for me after 3 months!). I think the tazorac should continue to help her since it exfoliates the skin. I dont know if she experienced peeling or not, but the taz works well at this. I think she should keep using it, even if her skin is clear, since it should prevent future breakouts as well as fade the red marks and reduce any scarring (if there is any). In addition, i don't know how sensitive her skin is but you might try a product with glycolic acid( i use taz at night and a 3% glycolic toner in the morning after washing my face). Glycolic acid helps even out skin tone and helps alotta ppl with redmarks, but some ppl find they cant tolerate it and its important to wear sunscreen while using it, just like with the taz. Hope this helps and hope ur daughter continues to improve!

I assume that would be too dry Tazorac place so close to the formulation of oral Accutane. Perhaps the glow was just my imagination today.

The Tazorac after two weeks of using the network 2 to 4 minutes before washing my face . appears to be “digging” the ones who are under the skin. They have felt under the skin and have looked like bumps for about three months give or take and it seems they are now closer to the surface. Although I absolutely hate it, I think it is a necessary means to an end. . (

L:)

Reply:i'm taking Tazorac 1% myself…just curious how long do you leave on your face before you wash it off…I've read you can leave it on for 30 mins and than wash it off or leave it on all night…and also when you wash it off your face do you use any type of cleanser or just plain water…

Reply:Not sure about the initial breakout, but with me it's bound to happen. I am using the 1% gel and I don't leave it on more than a couple of minutes and then wash off. I am on accutane maintenance and it would be way to irritating to leave it on…

Does it bring yours up to the surface of the skin? I don't know how else to describe it. I have had them under there for months and now they are working their way up I guess. Can't really tell if there are any new ones though. I've only been using for 2 weeks though, so I guess it will take time. Does your skin tingle and sting and does that get better. ?? How come you switched to the .5 if the 1% was working well, or were you clear and decided to cut back?

Thanks
L

Reply:Hi!
I'm on Tazorac now–1% cream. Are you on the cream or gel, and what percentage are you on? I was on this a long time ago, and it actually worked really well; it even controlled my oil, which nothing else has ever done. The catch is, it has to be the 1% for me, b/c I was just on the .5%, and I got oily, and broke-out. I switched back to the 1%, and already, my oiliness is getting better(its only been a week), and I'm clearing up.
I don't remember an initial break-out on this before. When does that usually occur?
HTH

My daughter is 0.5% taz, and drmatologist has changed to 1%, plus added benzoil gel and clindamyacyn. She has been taking orthotrycyclin for about 2 months and just started her first year of college. Between stress and hormones, her face is really a mess. Her skin is very dry, tight and peeling. Does anyone have any suggestions to help with the drought? She is so self-conscious about how her face looks, it will scarcely leave her room.

Reply:Your daughter needs to be using an effective moisturizer. I recommend MD Forte Replenish Hydrating Cream. It's somewhat expensive, but formulated specifically to work for those with sensitive skin or those using retinoids. It also has no comedogenic ingredients in it.

Also, she might want to incorporate MD Forte Cleanser II in the morning to get rid of the flakes. It has some glycolic acid in it, but is surprisingly VERY gentle and gets rid of the flakes without having to scrub the skin (which, of course, causes more irritation and possibly more breakouts). This cleanser has helped my skin soooo much. It was recommended to me by my dermatologist.

I am also on Tazorac 0.1% gel and incorporating these products has kept me flake free and hydrated. My skin looks almost perfect now. Also, I only use it every 2 or 3 nights and that cuts back on the irritation as well…..but my skin has cleared considerably. I was also prescribed Duac which is very similar to Clindamycin, and I only use that to spot treat active pimples in the morning. Applying it all over the face isn't a good idea for Tazorac users because our skin is already so sensitive and is much thinner than normal. Skin is easily irritated when applied all over and more pimples may result.

Bonnie

Reply:I use Clindamycin in the topical LOTION form and that really gets rid of my dryness and also treats acne at the same time. Make sure she's using a gentle cleanser since Tazorac is strong and can be very irritating. If the Ortho Tri Cyclen doesn't work after a while, have her try Yasmin if she wants. I have heard tons of positive feedback on this pill and I started it 2 months ago and after a little initial breakout, it is really starting to clear me up completely. Hope this helps.

Reply:Hi Laur

He just cut off one of the bumps, and sent it to a lab. I have to emphasize that these bumps NEVER went away. I have had them for at least three years. It isn't just a problem area where i break- out over and over. It's the same exact bumps, concentrated on one area, while the rest of my face responds to treatment.

What are yours like?

Hi guy

Taz is supposed to be good for wrinkles, but like everything else, it's not effective for everyone. I found that the retin-a made me look younger than the taz.

Reply:doesn't tazorac work to the same extent for wrinkles as Retin-a?? they both work closely the same way and they are both vitamin a derivatives with many of the same ingredients

Reply:Just curious

What type of biopsy and why? Since I have lupus, I may have one done and was wondering about them. It seems my immune system is always in overdrive and I have wondered if….because this all came out at the same time, its related. I just can't convince myself that this is typical acne. It just doesn't respond to anything ya know??

I have also tried to research the Elidel Cream which is an immunosupressant for the skin that is NOT a steroid. I'm not sure if that could be my problem, but would be willing to try it. Even Minocyclin and erythromycin have never helped..and later after being Dx with lupus I realized why I became so ill taking them. They can both exacerbate the symptoms of lupus. I have often wondered if a steroid free type cream would work and plan to say something to the derm. I just can't leave the questions without the answers.
I do hope you are feeling better regarding the biopsies. I've put it off for a long time and need to think more seriously about it, but I've always been afraid of both the scarring and the outcome. Feel better.

L

Reply:Hi Poreoily

It looks okay, but it may scar. That area is so messed up. Still haven't gotten my results, so I'm now getting worried.

Reply:Emmanuel, how are your scars from the biopsies healing?

Reply:Hi guy

My oil, and acne went away. I must say, it wasn't too bad to begin with–mild/moderate, but my oil was terrible! The taz got rid of my oil.

I went on retin-a not b/c the taz wasn't working(it was), but b/c the retin-a makes me look younger(I'm 32).

If you're having good results, I'd stick with the taz. If the results are only ok. maybe you can add another topical to the mix. I used BP with mine, b/c BP has always been really effective on my skin.

HTH
