This is weird for me. I only break out on my chin and my jaw line. the rest of my face and especially my forehead is flawless. Someone told me connected to my stomach, if you break on the lower part of your face. Im still in the process of detoxifying my body, especially my liver. Does this have anything to do with it? will it ever clear? sweet jade you might be able to offer some advice . thanks
Reply:is skinoren or azelex better?? i am thinking about ordering one since mine is hormonal– i am 21 and breakout on cheeks and chin (only). thanks all!
Reply:yes guy i am 25. When i was a teen i broke out on my forehead, and cheeks. I was clear for 2 yrs using proactiv. I started getting huge red cysts only on the left side of my chin, i thought it was from the phone at work. So i tried not to let it touch it. But it still wouldn't go away, so i went to the derm for advice. BIG MISTAKE, he said i may need a boost so he agve me antibiotics (this was in feb) after 2 weeks on Doryx i broke out on the sides of my cheeks, where my hair can hide it. went back to the derm in april, he said hmmm you still need your pores to open, so he gave me retin-a EVEN BIGGER MISTAKE, i started braking out on my other side of my face, on the right side of my chin, huge cysts, so i stopped the proactiv in april too. Started using some all natural products with viamin a, e, some other natural stuff. Then my wholeface exploded. So since i stopped the proactiv for a few weeks, so i started back on that may 26. but yes my forehead and cheeks are flawless. I keep breaking out on my chin, sides of chin, and up my jawline. thats my story….
Reply:I can relate. I was on Differin for awhile, that just made my skin worse. I am on ortho tri cyclen which is supposed to help with acne but really hasn't for me! I now have been using BP with success so far. I have a question, what is skinoren? is it otc?
Reply:Bunny, how old are you? the reason i ask is because they say adult acne is more common in the areas you get the breakouts. i used to break out on my nose and cheeks but now that i'm almost 25 (considered adult) i break out in the same areas as you.
also, do you touch your face a lot in those areas, like, do you lean on your hands or does the phone rest on your chin when you talk on it? that could be it too.
D
Reply:Just asking because my derm told me that has something to do with hormones also.
Reply:Do you guys get cysts? The kind that are white on top, but pretty deep down under the skin and HATE to go away?
Reply:Hi bunny,
I was obsessed with washing and toning….I still kind of am, and have to remind myself that this condition I have is from NOT washing and toning with the wrong stuff.
Basically the idea here is to wash with something gentle. Toning I have come to realize, is something to avoid. Lots of them contain alcohol which can be irritating.
There are lots of non-soap gentle cleansers out there, and it really is a matter of personal preference. Some choices: Purpose gentle wash or moisturizing version of the wash, Cetaphil for oily skin, Eucerin gentle hydrating cleanser, Olay foaming wash, Alpha hydrox gentle foaming wash. I stay away from washes that contain BP or salicylic acid, not because these are not effective ingredients, but because I am on prescription topicals that could be drying if combined with those things.
I recently was given a prescription wash called Plexion that has sulfer in it that I wash with in the morning, and I am using Purpose gentle wash in the evening.
Hope this info is helpful and good luck. ![]()
Reply:deedee what do you wash with, and tone with??
Reply:It's hormonal..I'm living it, and our faces could be twins, cause that's where mine like to pop up…and only there! Maybe that's why the azelaic acid is being so effective on those babies for me……
Reply:Yeah I agree- it's probably hormonal. I know a lot of people have also been taking Spiro which blocks the male hormones that cause hormonal acne. I SO wish I could go on this but my derm refuses to prescribe it. (I've tried to explain the theory of my androgen sensitivity to her- but she won't listen– arggh!) I just ordered Skinoren myself. Hopefully that will help, but I've always preferred to treat things internally.
Reply:Sounds like hormonal acne to me.Try Skinoren to combat the androgens in your face.
