Tried everything! Help with oil! [retin a micro] [oiler]

I have very oily skin. I work in television, which is a big no-no. I tried evrything (I know, at least) to get rid of the oil. The only thing that worked was Accutane, but you can also just that for a few months at a time. My derm has me now on Retin-A Micro said that should help, but in two weeks, I am oilman! Have any of you had this experience? Retin-A will work? Have you tried something that will work?
Thanks so much!

Reply:Vitamins alone are not the answer. I've taken those for years (A & D, C, E) and still do, but the oil problem is still there. What is Lomalux? I have never heard of this. Is a prescription required?

Reply:3 grams of Vitamin C?! Isn't that damaging to your liver? Or do you take it throughout the day? I've also heard elsewhere that Vitamin C is good, especially Vitamin C Ester (b/c it's more absorbable). Personally, I like fish oil supplements!

Reply:Acidophilus and vitamin C helped reduce my oil. I take 3 grams of C and 1 Acidop. capsule daily.

When I started taking Lomalux 1 year ago I got rid of all my oil in about 2-3 months. It also cleared up all my acne in same time. I have been using Murad tinted sunscreen daily and it has gotten rid of my rough patches, red spots and evened out my skin tone with no break-outs.

I had acne for 35 years!!!

Reply:Ceban didn't do a thing either.

Reply:I have NEVER met anyone with as oily skin as mine in my entire 49 years. I have tried it all. To those Retin-A people who are getting oiler, please stop. I eventually got such severe cystic acne from Retin-A and all the oil and shine that I had to stop. With no time, my skin improved. I even tried it again many years later, but the same thing happened. It is definitely not for all of us. In fact, of everything I have ever tried, Retin-A was by far the most damaging attempt.

Calamine lotion could clog your pores. Milk of Magnesia does help a little, but it leaves your face very flat and dull. Not quite the answer either, and the oil just comes on through.

I've found that using less harsh approaches and not washing as often helped reduce the oil backlash. The blotter sheets are good too as they do not disturb makeup as long as you don't wait too long before applying them. However, if your skin is very oily, you could be going through them like toilet paper, and it gets very costly.

I'm thinking of trying Burt's Bees next. So far, Oxy Cleanser and then Oxy all over works best for me, but still far from perfect. I have a lot of blackheads. Paula's Choice was good too, but again, nothing has gotten rid of the blackheads due to all the oil clogging my pores.

I'll let you know how Burt's Bees works.

Any other suggestions will be helpful.

Reply:Calamine lotion never made me breakout.I didn't have it on for long periods of time though, only while I was out and about shopping, etc.I washed it off when I came home.It will help heal your face too some and lighten scars as a spot treatment but I wouldn't apply it all over your face all the time cause your skin needs to breathe.

Reply:I wish I had the cashola to go to a derm or buy an expensive product but I don't. So I'm looking into over the counter products that reduce oil, and so far calomine (sp?) lotion and milk of magnesia sound promising. Anyone else with any input on these 2 things or anything similar? I'm just curious if they could cause a break out or irritation. Thanks!

Reply:I had similar reactions to tazorac and retin-a as you did. I have yet to find a cure for my very oily T zone but I will say that treating your skin to less harsh regimen will help the most. Using a moisturizing cleanser such as cetaphil or purpose foaming wash with help bring the moisture level back slowly. After years of using so many different acne treatments I think our skin forgets what balanced healthy skin is.

Reply:Someone mentioned Ketsugo. I'm using another similar product from Acne Miracle. Nothing has EVER decreased my incredibly oily skin, even mega dosing on B5. After about 5 weeks of using the Acne Miracle, I didn't think it was going to work either. But it's been 6 weeks or so now and I'm finally seeing some reduction! The ironic thing is that I just dished out 18 bucks on Clinique's Clarifying foundation, which is supposed to help control shine and keep your face matte. And now that I'm a bit less oily, it's too drying! Go figure!

Reply:guy, did the calamine lotion clog your pores at all?

Reply:Violet… hey! I used Seban and it didn't do a thing to help me. Just FYI…

Reply:I've heard that Seban is very good by Coopers Labs. I haven't tried it personally though.

Reply:Thanks for all of the replies!
I do use the Blot Film several times a day. Since I have to wear make-up for television, I have found the MAC Blot Powder works wonders. It's become my best friends. (And you can't tell you have any powder on.)
I've had Tazorac before, but as I recall, it just burned my face up. I'm using Retin-A Micro now, because my derm told me that it would cut down on the oil. 2 weeks into it, it's just created more oil. Maybe it takes a while to work.
I'm just glad to know there are others out there with the same problem! :)
Any more suggestions???

Reply:Give Ketsugo Gel a go,it takes upto 4-6 weeks to work, but it is also an anti acne product, its non drying and you dont need any other acne treatment with it,you apply it 2 times a day for 4-6 weeks until the oil is under control then u can just apply every other day or once a week depending on how oily your skin is,
give it a go,its not that expensive either,do a web search and you will fond out all about it

Reply:I was just like you. I had such oily skin, that people thought I had applied some sort of oily emmolient lotion on it, when really, it was just my natural oils. Anyway, I was also on retin-A, and it made me oilier. I liked it for other things, but finally had to stop, b/c it was making me sooo oily. There are other people posting the same thing about retin-A on here, so you're not alone.

I switched to tazorac 1% cream, and it works!!! Nothing has EVER controlled my oil before. I can go all day without having to use those oil blotting papers, and beforeI had to use them every 2 hours. Also, when I wake-up in the morning, not any oil, but not dry either. I think it works b/c the medication is stronger than retin-a, but it has ingredients to moisturize and balance your skin's PH.

I'm not saying it will work for everyone, in fact, in may be too drying for most, but for me it works like a dream; it's worth a shot. You can only get it from an M.D. by prescription, and it's expensive if you don't have insurance.

Sorry I wrote so long, but i'm so happy and excited! :bouncing:

Reply:I agree with Rush – CP Serum and jojoba oil did the trick. Jojoba mimmicks the sebum that your skin naturally produces and trick the skin so it doesn't produce as much. It is actually wax based so it does not make your skin more oily. And these two together will really balance your skin out and leave it soft. Good luck.

Reply:I used to have a very very oily face before using Spironolactone. The ONLY thing that helped my face stay dry even in hot weather when I went out in public was Calamine lotion. That stuff absorbs it all.

Reply:CP Serum did it for me. I don't have to powder my face during the day anymore.

Reply:i've read in a few places that applying a very thin layer of milk of magnesia, or castor oil (?) to the face keeps the shine at bay. A couple models told me that it never broke them out, and kept them from having to mop up shiny oil all day. But i've never tried it, so i can't say from experience.

Reply:dont know if this will work for u but it did for me for a while…
i used witch hazel after washing my face with cetaphil

Reply:I don't know if this applies to you, but I found that if I wash my face more than 2x daily and moisturize more than once, my skin is oilier.

Clean and Clear makes these FABULOUS little oil absorbing pads that pick up all of the shine. I never go anywhere without them.

I, personally, am a big fan of Clinique products and they make a couple of toners that might be good for you.
