What works for me [moderate acne] [differin]

After lurking for many months heres what I did. Im 39 and I have a mild / moderate acne. I trashed all my old products (including Differin, Benzaclin, OTC, and Avon) and switched to burts bees . and it has helped tremedously. I did not use anything else for a few months (or however long ago that Burt was introduced to this forum) and my skin cleared approximately 90% with only a few pimples now and then. Last week I added jojoba and here I am witholding decision if it is too early to say. No big breakouts but a few things have emerged. Years ago I was a big cyst on the tip of my nose (can you say Rudolph) and that seems to prepare to achieve again.

Anyhow, this is what works for me right now . I think Burts products are really working for me. I use the soap tomato, lettuce toner, fog grapefruit, citrus cleaner, citrus scrub and stain stick. I also use the carrot day cream, night of evening primrose and royal eye cream crean Jelley. When I suck out the jojoba I will stop using and stick with Burt. And note that I do not have to use those products at the same time . I like tomatoes, wash with soap then of course I do not use citrus oil and grapefruit if I miss, I do not use the toner.

I think some of you are trying way too many products at once . your skin is gonna rebel!

Reply:Hi again. Nuttyrich….my acne was mostly cystic but I only had a few eruptions at a time…the rest of my acne was smaller pimples and whiteheads, but not a whole lot, which is why I said I had mild/moderate. What I had was big & nasty but I never had alot of it at one time.

DeeDeewith3, I started using Burts Bees a few months ago when the whole Burts Bees hooplah started on this board. There were at least 50 posts about the products at that time. I don't have time to look for it right now but I think it was about 2 months ago…maybe more. At that time I stopped using everything else and just used the Burts products. Once I saw that I was responding well to the Burts I added jojoba oil (about 2 weeks ago) and so far that is working well for me too. The tomato toner burned me so I use the lettuce toner…but I still use the tomato soap. I have 39 year old combo skin.

guy, you can get it online or you can buy it at certain stores. Their website has a store locator which is what I used to find it in my area. It's priced about the same as most anything else….maybe a little higher. The bar soap is about $7, for example. I found a store in my area that always has it for 20% off so that helps out my pocketbook a bit.

I'm not trying to sell anyone on these products. I just wanted to share my good fortune with everyone else here because this board is where I learned about these products and I'm very glad I did.

Reply:is burts bees expensive? what did you get and for how much? is it drying?

Reply:guy,
Just HOW long are you using the BB stuff?

Reply:If you consider CYSTIC acne a MILD form of acne,i would wonder what you consider bad acne when cystic is the worst kind you can have, that's what they reserve accutane most of the time for. I am glad your acne free/much better i was just telling my experience just like you were,i have nothing against herbal cures/remedies if it helps someone and your right if someone is on 15 regimens they have no idea what helps and what doesn't.

Good luck to ALL,
Rich :)

Reply:guy, after I re-read my post I realized that what I meant to say didn't come out right. I do use alot of products, although I don't use them all at the same time, of course. I alternate them depending on my needs on that particular day. I only use use the scrub a few times a week. And since I'm 39 I do need to use the moisturizing products and since I wear makeup I have to cleanse twice a day. The citrus cleanser pretty much disolves the makeup away and I use that at night. The blemish stick is as needed.

What I meant to say is that I see alot of people here who try a product, use it 2 or 3 times, then claim it didn't work or that they saw a few more pimples instead of a few less so they stop using it. A day or 2 later they are on to something else. And the cycle repeats itself. Some of the people here are using so much stuff, both internally and externally, that it frightens me.

When I started using burts bees I stopped all my other products so I could see how I reacted to the new ones ONLY. A new product could interact with one you're already using and have adverse results even if the individual products work well. And I didn't even consider adding the jojoba oil until I had used the burts products for a few months…..long enough to know that I was doing well on them.

Hope I clarified myself a bit :)

And guy, I don't even know what you're talking about. The products I'm using now have cleared me up nicely so I do consider them "real". I stated I had mild/moderate acne, mostly cystic, and if this works for me it may work for someone else so why the hell would you criticize it? Not everyone is inclined to use antibiotics, which in the long run aren't good for your immune system and to which you can build up a tolerance. A tolerance to antibiotics could result in much bigger problems than acne some day.

Reply:I don't know how this post started i thought it involved real topical/antibiotics. Okay Minocyline (Get DYncin it's the brand name) works the best 75 mg 2 x a day and a topical cleocin t gel and retin a micro at night most people should get great results, well after time dynacin/minocycline begins to allow gram negative bacteria growing you will see it on your back and not as effective,i've switched to Bactrim DS it's 100 % better no side effects and works very quickly. THis is good to use for a few months until i can go back onto dyncin. SO people Bactrim DS (double strength) is the last resort before accutane please give it a TRY it's cheap antibiotic that alot of derms don't write out because they are paid to write out scripts for the name brand and expensive drugs. THis is a SULFA based drug,if your allergic to sulfa, don't even attempt to take it,i am sensitive to alot of things fair skinned.. and i have had no problems with it.

GOod luck to ALL,
Rich

Then you go on to say that you think some people use too many products? Hmm, I see 10 in your post (9 above and the 10th being jojoba oil), so you might be guilty as charged :P

Seriously, how the heck do people find the time (or desire) to use ALL these products? Maybe it's a woman thing, but as a guy, I like just using a cleanser (I only use it once a day now, at night before bed), and that's all. And my skin has been thanking me for it!
